Let me start from basics, I didn’t like the game. Mechanics is not intuitive, if it was 2014 game I wouldn’t say anything but it is supposed to be new… dragging objects you want to use instead of clicking and hoping you’ll hit just the right spot, moving back and forward to pick up the same item that is used in two scenes, map that requires 3 clicks before you can move to desired area, simply annoying. The description of the game says “unbelievable investigation” but I only got bored and confused. The makers were trying to put it all into one story, mysterious murders, occultism, elites lives, ghosts, visions, portals…. And because of that it felt random and illogical. “Stunning hidden object scenes”, well, maybe, but that doesn’t justify using each scene twice (!) simply by changing the list of objects we are searching for. Alternate day and night scenes…. Let’s be clear, it could be interesting, but the main character finds his grandfather’s watch, discovers it can change daytime to nighttime and just accepts it, naturally this type of things happen all the time, I don’t know why was I surprised. He also doesn’t use it when it could be very useful, just in two scenes. “Variety of minigames and enigmas”, that one is true. Unfortunately, variety means “oddity” and you spend more time trying to figure out what they want from you than actually solving it. “Intriguing characters at the heart of a quest into the underground world”, possibly, but none of them got introduced properly so you will not have a chance to be intrigued. And when it comes to the underground. Cut scenes with the character walking through underground tunnels, arrrgh! I’m pretty sure it is there (multiple times) just to make the game seem longer than it actually is and to irritate the players. The game is around 2 hours long but it feels much longer, not in a good way. When I finished I was happy to find out there is no bonus chapter. To summarize, I do not recommend the game for the above reasons, if it was older game, I could forgive some of the drawbacks. The short list of pros doesn’t balance the long list of cons.

Oof, this one is a bit complicated. Maybe a notch above 'meh'. I had a lot of issues that kept me from enjoying the game. It had potential, it really did. Not that it mattered but I have to mention that the game has a male protag which is rare in the genre. PROS: > The graphics look nice! The HO scenes were actually pretty okay! Hardly any stockphoto items so it was very easy on the eyes. > Windowed mode allowed! > A very handy-dandy zoom in mouse scroll for tired eyes! > A very handy-dandy fast travel map with action indicators! > Plenty of puzzles, and not as much HO scenes (well, I consider this a pro for me to be honest). Some of the puzzles were unique in that I haven't seen in other HO scenes. > A very interesting ending haha! CONS: > Painstaking lack of flavor text/descriptors. A lot of items and actions had no text to tell you what to find or to do. It was frustrating and you'd be resigned to using the hint button to determine what to do next. Not even the action indicator on the map worked perfectly. You'll still end up having to seek help and I was on casual for christsakes. Even the puzzle information was way too vague in some. > Some item logic/puzzles are poorly designed i.e. a key that opens a box with another key in it. Uh? What was the point of this again? An arrow tied to a rope is apparently a fishing hook? That's not how it works. > Protag's voice actor is clearly paid by the minute. He reads his lines so dead and fast. Some voices are better and some are even worse. > Somewhat abyssmal hit box for some small items in HO scenes. And that piano puzzle. I hated it. Why did you think that was fun? I can't put this in either pro or con because it might just be me, but I found the plot a bit convoluted and contrived. The diary we kept wasn't the best source of information about it either; It's mostly things the protag had said aloud. My willing suspension of disbelief died near the end with that "boss fight". That teetered way too close to silly town. It did have interesting plot points especially with the hobo, the mystery started off really good too. Overall, it was okay. The quality of visuals really made it positive for me. For the price point? You'd definitely get bang for buck. It's about 5-6 hours of gameplay, which I think matches how much you'll spend on it. The plot is definitely taste-based, for some it could be difficult to swallow.
I'll give this a provisional recommendation, as the story outweighs some of the clunky mechanics. If you get it in a bundle or on special, go for it, otherwise play something else. A 55/100 effort. The good Excellent story for this kind of game Superb backgrounds and visuals Some very challenging puzzles De-emphasises HO in favour of story Reasonable music The bad Clunky interface and mechanics A couple of tracing games that are way out of place in a HOG Amateur theatre society level voice acting Some pixel hunting Difficult to figure out what to do on occasion Minimal replay value
Ultra-classic HOG game in the purest tradition of the genre. Nothing to complain about in particular. The puzzles are absurd until the climax: find a shovel to dig up a pickaxe, put a gem in a hole to open a closet that contains a key that opens a closet that contains a gem to put in a hole that opens another closet with another key, etc. etc. The positive points are the illustrations and the soundtrack as often in this kind of game, to note some other pros:

Ability to zoom x2 on the screen with the mouse wheel
Customizable difficulty depending on how you wish to play
Good longevity, for my part I took 5h by going fast
I give a thumb up because for this kind of game it's ok, and we will excuse the scenario completely absurd and already seen 255 times. 6/10
This is a casual point and-and-click adventure with a few hidden-object scenes and puzzle mini-games. Skip this one. While the storytelling is OK, the game engine is rough, awkward, and buggy. You have to click and drag objects, which is already an annoying mechanic, but often clicks won't register and you will miss objects and actions even though you did the right thing. Map navigation is a nightmare. Even without the clunky engine, game design is unreasonably difficult. At some point I lost interest in even trying to understand the logic behind the puzzles and relied on the hint button to move forward. You are not rewarded for carefully thinking through the puzzles. Instead, you need to just use every object with everything until something works, which is not only tedious but also frustrating when the game engine won't register your clicks. The puzzle mini-games are also poorly designed. One memorable disaster involves putting 5 weights in order so they balance on a scale. Except that carefully trying to deduce the relative weights will reveal that the rules of physics don't apply. You simply have to try all combinations. Thinking will be punished!
