Ex Machina!
I'll fully admit, I was gifted this game around Christmas of 2025 by one of my Steam friends, so my review may be a little biased through not having had to spend any money on it. With the disclaimer out of the way, where do we start? FUMES (hereafter just called Fumes for the sake of my pinky finger and the longevity of my shift key) is a post-apocalyptic automotive shooter at its core. Discounting the "taste of power" start - which I like in games because you get a feel for what mid-game will feel like - you start with a weak little shoebox called the Cub. It's based on the Polski Fiat 126, it has one weapon slot on the roof and one cargo slot on the hood. Don't despair - you won't have to drive it very long - After a few challenges (Races, skirmishes, convoy hijack/defense), you'll face your first boss and unlock a better car. The game progression is excellent, by the way. If there's a challenge type you suck at (I can't do the races) or just don't particularly like, the boss enemy criteria for showing up has a wide range of acceptable missions. Just check the Progress tab onboard Scrapper - the neighborhood friendly mobile garage - and you'll find out what challenges/missions you need to do in order to challenge the next boss. It'll usually show quite a few of them - you usually only need to do 2 to 4 of them to unlock the Steiger battle, and then you can face off against a boss. Beating a boss unlocks their car and their weapon - most of the time. There are currently three "Overseer" fights which do not unlock the boss' car, they just gate progression until you can turn them into scrap metal. I'm not going to spoil these for you - You'll know when you get to them because their mission icon is different, and the fight will be different. As for game performance, this game pretty much will run on a potato. You may need to turn down some quality settings and use some resolution scaling on weaker systems, but the developers are very serious about trying to maintain performance on low-end hardware. If you're wanting a good shooter you can go into solo, or want to screw around with your buddies in Co-op acting like the War Boys in Mad Max, Fumes is a great choice. It runs on garbage hardware, it's very easy to pick up, a little challenging to master, and incredibly well-balanced. There is no truly "unusable" build - you can beat most enemies with a Cub equipped with the default Automat or the Pyreblitz (a flamethrower) if you're really determined enough.

Groovy
fun coop game, good customisation
Fun game for short sessions, other wise it gets repetitive because the game has too few songs and too few mission types. A negative: the cutscenes mid boss fights are not needed, people can infer that bosses get harder as phases change without pressing X to skip every 1 minute of the fight.
