About

FRONT MISSION 1st: Remake is an immersive, tactical turn-based RPG, placing you in command of the awe-inspiring Wanzers – powerful military machines.
Assume the role of valiant pilots navigating treacherous battlefields, where the true realities of war come alive with every strategic maneuver. With a meticulously crafted narrative that surprises at every turn, the game showcases an extensive combat and battle system. Enjoy all these features through refreshed graphics and a reorchestrated soundtrack, elevating the gaming experience of the classic Front Mission series.
In the year 2090, the world's conflicts are fought using giant war machines called Wanzers. Huffman Island, the only place where the Oceania Cooperative Union (O.C.U.) and the Unified Continental States (U.C.S.) share a land border is a hotbed of conflict.
An O.C.U. reconnaissance platoon led by Captain Royd Clive is assigned to investigate a U.C.S. munitions plant. They are ambushed by U.C.S. Wanzers, triggering a series of events that plunges the whole island into war. Royd's fiancée, Lieutenant Karen Meure, goes missing in action.
Discharged from the military, Royd sets out to investigate what happened to Karen. His quest leads him closer and closer to the conspiracy behind the incident and the powers that orchestrated it.
With dozens of characters to meet, its mature story, and non-Manichean protagonists, Front Mission is the classic of a tactical Japanese RPG genre, finally available worldwide.

As a lover of the FM3 for the PS1, I finally wanted to try the first one and I can say the remake is pretty good and fun. I feel it could have a bit more QOL improvements, specially in the shop menu (making it easier to buy sets, compare weapons, etc), but it's not a big problem. Occasionally I get a bug where the game "freezes" when trying to save (happened at least twice on the steam deck) and I had to restart the game.
A great game, I enjoyed playing it on the DS and again with this remake. It's very much a game of its time. They stayed true to the original, so if you don't like older games this probably wont be a great fit for you.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Its a fun RTS RPG game. Can be addicting.
Front Mission 1st:Remake is a rough one for me. Realistically, I just can't recommend buying this games 4th release of the same game every few years. It's a fine port/remake... but I feel like a sucker for paying again for something I already own 2 copies of. I've been a long-time Front Mission player, having started with the original SNES. I like the series, but this game really hasn't aged all that well. Even in the same time period, we had Tactics Ogre, with far deeper tactics, army customization, and simply more engaging battle mechanics. It's neat looking at this as a historical relic, but it's not really a stand-out game anymore. The biggest problem is that the mechanics are extremely shallow and the game is poorly balanced. The first few missions are pure RNG. I'd walk into a stage, first turn, every shot goes into my body killing me immediately forcing me to rewatch the same unskipabble cutscene. There's no failing forward here, all XP is lost and you just try again. So you have to grind the arena for XP and money... only to now steamroll the game. There's nothing resembling what we consider Skills in modern TRPGs... but instead there are 7 randomly triggered passives you can unlock. They're fine, but what it means mechanically is that you build your mechs, and then you walk forward into enemies. The tactics never get deeper than that. (No weapon triangles, no unique abilities, no area of effects, etc) I still love the graphics style, the storytelling and the "Feel" that Front Mission brings to the table. It's absolutely a good game from 1995 and it's worth picking up if you've never played before. But this remake brings nothing new to the table, and that's both a good and bad thing. It's good that they didn't ruin the game by modernizing it. But, it also means that I could have just pulled out my playstation or DS and saved my money for an original game and supporting devs that actually need my funds.
It is pretty fun and story is good enough. It is cheap during sale. New parts show up too quickly that it is tedious replacing equipment on each character. It is hard in the beginning but you become OP very fast. Sakata can't hit anything.
