Freedom Wars was originally a PS Vita game. I'm happy to support ports and remasters like this, so when I saw this was coming I decided to get it right away as it looked fun and I was between games at the time. In terms of gameplay the most obvious comparison would be God Eater but people also throw around comparisons to Monster Hunter and Toukiden. It's a single player focused game (with co-op and PvP modes) set in a post apocalyptic world where you are sent on missions to kill giant robotic creatures. There's a fun variety of weapons, and something called a Thorn which you can use to do things like latch onto the robots or pull them onto the ground. The story isn't anything terribly unique but it's fun and weird and has some of the usual anime tropes. There's also a decent amount of character customization. The remaster adds high-resolution textures, 4k resolution support, new difficulty settings, and an overhauled weapon crafting system. I personally have experienced no crashes or performance issues of any kind. I've had no bugs. It also works really well on Steam deck, which makes sense seeing as this was originally made for a handheld console. The only downside I have encountered is that I believe there are at least a couple songs missing from this release, likely due to licensing issues. The main one I have seen people mention is Na Na Na! Also, on a side note they made some fun little music videos for the game back in the day. You can watch them HERE. This is a really fun game and I totally recommend it.
A one-of-a-kind game. I really wanted to continue playing more... but due to a massive nerf to my favorite weapon, I was forced to quit. However, there are still players enjoying it in multiplayer. You might want to join a group (chat) and see if you can find some.
getting a refund, game literally won't let me play it no matter what fixes i try, can games stop ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ making it impossible to play games cause the anticheat thinks your harddrive is a virus or some ♥♥♥♥. It's a Psvita remaster, porting it over to steam shouldn't require a bloodpact with Baphamet in 2026. Just get a Psvita and find the cartridge, it's honestly easier then getting it to run on steam!
my favorite ps vita game on pc. i like the story. i dont understand the bad reviews for this game. if you liked it on vita dont let the reviews stop you.
Great game on the Steam Deck!
no matter what i tried i can't run this game on my pc. i tried everything i could from repair c++ runtime, directx, overlays, cpu env vars, gpu drivers, ... clean windows reinstall. the game starts and crashes before loading anything, it just pops up a black screen that lasts a few seconds and then ctd without logs or anything.
Classic portable Monster Hunter if it was made by George Orwell. I'm digging it.
If you want to know what the monster hunter genre was like before Monster Hunter World this is a good start. It has very fun small missions that are meant to be beaten quickly for those on portable machines. Lower your expectations on the remaster quality as far as frame rates and think of a ps3 like title and you should be happy with the game with those expectations. It’s a grindy game that I had a blast playing but is nowhere near current in the execution of visuals and the loop. Now if they would only remake this game and soul sacrifices using a modern game engine(and monster hunter generations). I got the game on sale and good for value out of it. I liked trying to rescue people trapped in the monsters. I always heard that most games don't get beaten buy the people that buy them. that most games just stay in the backlog and maybe for this game that will be true when it is included in bundles and discounted to the maximum. But ass of April 2026 I just roled credits and was shocked to see over 34 percent of people who bought the game rolled credits. Indicating buyer got true value and enjoyed there time enough to see through to the end which was 15 hours plus for me. This game has a great loop and I hope it gets a AA budget for a sequel and some attention as I loved my time playing. 8/10 “Freedom Wars: Resale” this is the proper title as I got some very low frame rates sometimes. Is it the wired pc setup I have? Idk
One of my favourite games from the Vita, I'm so happy it came to PC. If you like Gods Eater or the older Monster Hunter games then this will be right up your alley. I also haven't had a single problem with the anti-cheat or any stuttering or gameplay issues.
An excellent game. It is styled similarly to monster hunter games. The flavor has you playing as a criminal guilty of the crime of wasting the resources and the time of your Panopticon (Community). It's interesting because you can actually break rules and get time added to your sentence. There are enough weapons and weapon types to keep you experimenting for a while, and the cosmetics are varied enough to have something for just about anyone. Side note, the things you fight are pretty neat. Lots of different enemy robots, and lots of little things that give the game the feeling of a work of love. Try out the demo as it isn't for everyone, but it was most certainly a game i enjoyed. good game 8/10, in my opinion
