A huge improvement from the original game in almost every aspect. Lots of customization through items, huge gameplay and speed improvements, and way more levels to run through. Though running out of lives does force you to restart the level, it isn't a huge setback, as you can either spend gems to continue or try again, because in comparison to FP1, its levels are far less lengthy. Even after completing the game, there are multiple challenges you can take and even a boss rush, and equipping certain items can make a level item in exchange for a higher gem reward. The soundtrack to this game is also quite good like the original, but most boss themes don't feel that intense. But still, without a doubt, it's one of the best platformers I've played in my life.
BANGER!!!! Genuinely wasn't sure I would like this game as much as the first, just cause there's so much about Freedom Planet 1 that I couldn't get enough of. But once again this team has exceeded my expectations. It never ceases to amaze me just how many wonderful level gimmicks are throughout the game, and how well they're all utilized. Though as much as I like all of the light puzzles that were peppered in some of the stages, I recognize them as breaking the pacing of this otherwise speed based game. Mild spoilers, but this is at its most egregious in the final level, where you have to stay away from something chasing you while also solving a complex puzzle. A lot of the bosses were way harder than expected, but all of them were infinitely cool and fun. Really like the mecha designs. I'm probably going to grow on it, but I do feel the OST wasn't as strong as the first game. As in, there aren't really many tracks that have stuck with me in the same way as FP1. Finally, I'm... alright with the story. I definitely really like the things it tried to do, and there are a lot of interesting character moments, but... I feel a lot of the ones that should have a lot of impact end up feeling rushed. The scene between Lilac and Spade near the middle of the game stands out to me a lot for A. coming out of nowhere and B. rushing through drama that feels like it should be super important for the characters. I liked the overall thing though. Big recommend, 10/10 Edit as of completing Carol's campaign: Good ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ lord it's truly impressive how far ONE singular move has permanently altered the way I play this game. Carol's spin disk is SO ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ good, it's not even funny. When I saw the achievement for getting S rank in every stage, I thought it was going to be a hard thing to accomplish and take multiple playthroughs of each stage. Yeah... about that. Completion Edit: So yeah I feel my general point about story feeling weak stands, even if there are a lot of moments that could work well. It's a bit of a shame too, cause there are some genuinely really interesting ideas throughout Lilac, Mirra, and Neera's campaigns (sorry Carol, the tradeoff of being the most fun to play as is having the weakest story, apparently). Just a shame that those ideas couldn't deliver as well as I'd like. Still a 10/10

Excellent game! Finished 2 times
it is very fun and very pretty : D
I played through this on switch already one of the best platformers ever. Galaxytrail I wish you made a freedom planet platform fighter
Freedom Planet 2 is a game that very quickly became one of my favourites, combining all the things I want from a 2D sonic-style game, with pretty much everything I want from a 3D sonic game as well, and in many ways I do feel like FP2 has a 2D Sonic Adventure-esque feel to it, and I'm someone who has always loved Sonic Adventure since first playing it on Dreamcast. The gameplay is almost universally improved from Freedom Planet 1 in my eyes, with all 3 returning characters feeling much better to play as, the spritework is even nicer, I personally prefer the level designs, bosses are designed to be a lot faster to fight with those at the end of stages taking on average a minute at most, and all bosses having a health bar really helps (some of FP1's bosses, especially with Carol, felt like they weren't even taking damage) with the feeling of making progress. The only thing I don't consider an improvement is the lack of a unique stage for each character which is something FP1 did (well, kinda, Carol's "unique" stage, Trap Hideout, was also played by Milla). The dialogue and character interactions are still lovable and quotable, with numerous NPCs in the new hub areas having dialogue that changes throughout the game, SA1 style, which really helps bring Avalice to life. The new playable character Neera is a fun concept, being a slower hitter that compensates by hitting hard and taking less damage while attacking. In practice, she can come off as particularly sluggish which isn't helped by her attacks hitting noticeably in front of her and her reliance on direction-based attacks which can be less than reliable, especially with certain gamepads like the old Xbox 360 gamepad I use for my PC. This directional-input issue with attacks isn't exclusive to Neera, she just suffers from it the most, and I will note than when playing FP2 on my Switch (over 100 hours at the time of this Steam review), the directional inputs weren't so unreliable, so it's primarily a controller issue, but one that a certain playable character highlights more than others. FP2 also includes an "Arena", which allows for boss re-fights against any boss in-game, as well as shorter mini-stages and a boss rush. All good features and I feel obliged to complete them as they are just fun. In addition to the Arena, the "Gallery" function is also a playable hub area, allowing you to spend crystal shards (and power cores, and gold gems, AKA all 3 currencies) to unlock static displays of all bosses and their constituent parts as part of a museum, always a feature I like in games, with the added bonus that unlocking everything within said museum opens up a behind-the-scenes area full of cut content and early prototypes, again, another fun feature that I always like to see in games. This unlockable behind-the-scenes museum gave me Insomniac Museum vibes.
Amazing 10/10
