Forget is a compact psychological horror experience that prioritizes atmosphere, implication, and emotional discomfort over overt scares or mechanical complexity. Developed and published by Karmapstudio, the game places the player in the role of Joel, a man who wakes up disoriented and stripped of his memories inside a decaying apartment that feels hostile in ways that go beyond simple physical danger. From its opening moments, Forget establishes a sense of unease rooted in uncertainty, using its confined setting and fragmented storytelling to pull the player into a slow, introspective descent rather than a traditional horror spectacle. The narrative is deliberately opaque, unfolding through environmental details, scattered clues, and subtle visual storytelling rather than explicit exposition. Joel’s amnesia serves as both a plot device and a thematic foundation, allowing the player to share his confusion as they piece together what happened, why the apartment feels wrong, and how a disturbing past crime involving a missing child connects to the present. The story touches on heavy themes such as guilt, addiction, despair, and self-destruction, not as shock elements but as quiet undercurrents that shape the mood. While the game never fully spells out every detail, it invites players to interpret events and draw their own conclusions, making the horror more psychological than literal. Gameplay in Forget is intentionally minimal, aligning closely with the walking-simulator subgenre of horror. Progression is driven by exploration, light interaction with objects, and simple environmental puzzles that serve primarily to gate access to new areas or narrative revelations. There is little in the way of mechanical challenge, and the game avoids complex systems or combat entirely. This design choice keeps the focus firmly on atmosphere and story, but it also means that players looking for gameplay depth or varied mechanics may find the experience limited. The short runtime reinforces this feeling, positioning Forget as a brief but focused experience rather than a full-length horror adventure. The apartment setting is the game’s greatest strength. Its narrow hallways, dimly lit rooms, and oppressive silence create a constant sense of claustrophobia, making even mundane spaces feel threatening. Visual design leans toward realism, with worn textures, cluttered rooms, and subtle environmental changes that suggest something is wrong beneath the surface. The space feels lived-in yet abandoned, as if time itself has stalled there. This environmental storytelling does much of the heavy lifting, conveying emotional weight without relying on scripted events or constant visual cues. Sound design plays an equally important role in shaping the experience. Forget relies heavily on ambient noise, distant sounds, and long stretches of silence to keep the player uneasy. Creaking floors, faint echoes, and sudden audio shifts create tension not by startling the player outright, but by making them constantly anticipate something that may never come. Jump scares are rare, and when they do occur, they are understated rather than bombastic, reinforcing the game’s preference for psychological pressure over shock tactics. Despite its strengths, Forget is not without its shortcomings. The brevity of the experience means that its ideas are introduced and resolved quickly, sometimes too quickly to fully explore their emotional potential. Some narrative threads feel underdeveloped, and players may finish the game wishing for greater clarity or deeper exploration of Joel’s past. Technical roughness, such as minor glitches or stiff interactions, can also momentarily break immersion, reminding the player of the game’s indie scale. The pacing is slow and deliberate, which will appeal strongly to fans of atmospheric horror but may test the patience of players accustomed to more active or intense experiences. Forget asks the player to move carefully, observe closely, and sit with discomfort rather than rush toward resolution. This approach gives the game a distinctive identity, but it also narrows its audience to those who appreciate subtle, mood-driven horror. Overall, Forget is a restrained and introspective horror title that succeeds in creating unease through atmosphere, theme, and implication rather than spectacle. Its strength lies in how effectively it uses a small space and limited mechanics to tell a haunting, emotionally charged story. While its short length, minimal gameplay, and narrative ambiguity prevent it from reaching the depth of more expansive horror games, it remains a compelling example of how psychological horror can be delivered in a focused, minimalist form. For players who value mood, environmental storytelling, and quiet dread over traditional scares, Forget offers a brief but memorable journey into fear shaped by memory and guilt. Rating: 6/10
