If you like to tinker, optimize and be methodical in your resource management titles then Forge Industry is definitely for you to lose hours in.
I love the way how the people jump up and down from a hill. *Weeee*
A fun and interesting automation game. It has more than enough depth if that's what you're looking for. If you're a fan of the genre, don't skip this one.
Forge Industry is fun and surprisingly deep! I have 4 hours in at the time of review and I feel like I have only scratched the surface! There are so many different items you can make and with the order requests in the harbor there is always a new order to rush and try and complete. Other than being slightly confused for some of the tutorial (the team already announced they are reworking it) I think Forge Industry is a great game with a ton of items a constant challenge and a lot of replay ability!
I love how the game developed from just a small demo at gameforce, to the beautiful citybuilder that it is now. Keep up the great work!
Gave it a chance, but very poor game overall, very poor graphically, game mechanics are weak and the final straw it locked up while saving. Totally unplayable abandoned piece of garbage.
I really wanted to like this game, but I couldn't. I like the devs though, they inspire me. However there is too much wrong with this game. The biggest problem is that the route system is too cumbersome. There is no seperate UI Button or Section for the routes, ou have to select a building in order to access the route list. In the route creation menu you can pick locations and resources for the transportation but the dropdown menu is very unclear. The menu should be wider so that you can see more than one or two resources at once. The general gameflow somehow doesn't feel right. For the first kind of resource production chain you have to do multiple unclear things to get on a positive income. The tutorial adresses that, but it feels way too unintuitive in my opinion. Also you have to create a new route for every resource type. In case of iron that means one route for coal, one for iron. If you would produce these resources from different location this would make sense, but you buy them both from the marketplace. So this generates many routes that could be summarized more elegant. The next things is that it feels kinda strange to buy resources just to combine and sell them. This could make sense if you later have the ability to mine both resources more efficiently, but why do you cannot do this from the start like in many other games? Or maybe the mining process is too expensive to set up initially, but thats the point you don't know it. The game just tells you to do it that way without explaining why. Maybe It makes sense in the end but I didn't got to that point. Some framing in how everything works in this world, maybe with a nice infographic would makes these things clearer. On top of that there was a crash in the first 20 minutes of the game just as I believed to came up with a first working economy but I did'nt found out due to the crash. It's just all the things together that made me refund this game and it hurts me for the devs but I also want to be honest with them and I hope they polish it the way it needs it. If this game would be in early access, I would just wait for a few updates but as this seems to be fully released I just cannot understand how it is this clunky. So to summarize this up I just realised that wanting this game to be fun is not the same as the game beeing fun. I'd really love to check the updates again by some time and reconsider but in this state I really just don't want to play it and the devs decided to leave it as it is, so I'm out. If you're unsure, wait for a sale. If you really like to dig into economic transportation games, have a lot of free time and you don't mind cumbersome UI and some crashes I think you could enjoy it as the graphics are pretty lovely.
Reading the devs response, I've changed my review to positive, I'll start a new game when I have time and describe the bugs in more detail to make it easier to recreate them. I started a new game, the bugs have disappeared from my save games and have not yet appeared in my newest game. Maybe it was some weird issue on my end causing it. My original review: "Game breaking bugs is an issue here and devs have abandoned the game, so these bugs will never be fixed. Sometimes a building will decide to no longer accept a particular item type for its recipes. I have so far been unable to find a work-around. It took me 4,7 hours to feel fairly confident I wouldn't be able to find a work-around, so now steam won't give me a refund. Also the auto-sell feature doesn't work, it mostly sells items at a tenth of the value, meaning it is pretty much an auto-delete feature that you have to untick every single time you set up a delivery to market. At least that is something that can be worked around, just mentioning it because game is unplayable until you figure out this bug exists."
This game is fun. I enjoyed playing it and will play it more!
Buildings look cute.
