Foolish Mortals

This game started out playable, then the next day threw a DX11 error where it was looking for a hardcoded location on someone named Jenkins' computer. After contacting the developer, nothing happened, I was told that I needed to log into my other user "jenkins" account. After telling them that that error as not on my end (as I had checked drivers/updates, redownloaded, etc.) and finding another person with the same issue online and them telling them the same thing, they then told me that I didn't have the right specs on my computer for it to open. After letting them know that I played initially with DX12 and even switched it back to DX11 specifically to play this game to see if that worked, and that I had already played over 100 minutes in the game on a previous day and this started being a problem after a patch that got pushed out after the first day, they pretty much ignored me. I waited for the next update just in case, but after that came, nothing changed. So without a way to play the game, I requested a refund and was denied because it had been too long since purchase. Now I have a copy of this game that I cannot play and the developer doesn't care to help. If you get this error, request a refund right away.....it is not worth it.

The best point and click adventure games make you think, make you laugh, and make you occasionally yell at the screen in despair. Foolish Mortals achieves all of the above. A fun story, great writing, solid voice acting and a fiendish mixture of puzzles. The love of the genre, and Monkey Island in particular, shines through from start to finish - in fact if they could get the license I'm convinced they would produce a Melee Island masterpiece. As a Disney fan I also dig the clear Haunted Mansion theme and references. There are a lot of point and click games on Steam, but this deserves a place at the top of your play list. Final rating? 999 happy haunts out of 1,000, and I'll definitely hurry back for a sequel.

I love this game! I grew up in the era of adventure games. My favorites are Monkey Island 1,2 and 3, Loom, King's Quest 6, and Day of the Tentacle. If you love these kinds of games, you will love Foolish Mortals. After the classic LucasArts era ended, there hasn't been any adventure games that have caught my eye until now. Foolish Mortals has some great puzzles and creativity - with hints of Monkey Island and King's Quest 6. The puzzles are challenging, but I got through all but one within looking for hints. Thank you to the creators for making this game. I look forward to playing the game again in the future. I truly hope there will be more from David and Sophie Younger and Inklingwood Studios.

Foolish Mortals is a really solid adventure that gets pretty much everything right. From the very beginning, the game pulls you in with a gripping story, great atmosphere, and some excellent voice acting. All voice actors did a great job, while Murphy especially gives some serious George Stobbart vibes in the way he comments on anything you interact with. The sound design is another strong point. The music and sound effects change depending on what you are doing, which helps make the world feel more alive and keeps you engaged while exploring. Even showing hotspots on the screen plays this nice short satisfying tune. The backgrounds look fantastic and clearly take inspiration from classics like Broken Sword. They have a lot of detail and personality, making each location fun to explore. The character models and animations do not quite reach the same level, though. Characters often look a bit less detailed compared to the backgrounds, and their movements can feel stiff at times. The puzzles are also well done, with a nice mix of classic inventory puzzles, conversations, item-based challenges, and proper on-screen puzzles (for example the church glass puzzle). Overall, Foolish Mortals is a charming adventure with a great story, memorable atmosphere, and the kind of attention to detail that fans of classic adventure games will appreciate. The animations could use some extra polish, but everything else makes this an easy recommendation.

I see why it's so well loved. The art and voice-acting is great! However, as you process, the logic behind the puzzles get more and more obtuse to the point where I am just brute forcing my way through it. I have not finished it yet, I will but I just can't bring myself to go through the randomness behind combine object A with B and apply on scene X.

10/10 game As a fan of point & click mysteries, I've played man and this might very well be one of the best I've played in a long while. Twists and turns that you don't expect to see coming. Beautiful soundtrack. Great humor and writing. Puzzles can be difficult at some points and frustrated me, but it was worth it. I highly recommend it.

I went into this game looking for a good spooky detective game. I honestly bought it among other detective puzzle games that I ended up breezing through and I only had this game left to play. I was a little reluctant to start the game after I had fallen in love with the other 2 games... But I booted it up and wow. I. LOVED. THIS. GAME. SO. MUCH. It was reminiscent of the Nancy Drew and Monkey Island games from yesteryear. (also a little Barbie Detective too). I loved how challenging some of the puzzles were to figure out. They are NOT just handed to you. There were so many times where I thought I had it, but I had to really think and figure it out. On top of some GREAT puzzles, the story was fantastic. I loved every bit of the story and the twists and turns. I am SO glad I played this game. It brought me back to my early computer days and kept my brain working to get to the end. Thank you for this masterpiece. 100/10

Das Spiel hat mir sehr gut gefallen. Die Story ist spannend und nicht langweilig zwischendurch. Die Musik ist sehr passend und geht ins Ohr. Die Rätsel sind alle lösbar und werden im laufe des Spiels schwieriger. Finde ich sehr gut. Mir hat es viel Spaß gemacht. Ich freue mich auf weitere Adventures dieser Art.
