Beautiful game that has a lot of potentional - sadly the devs only updated it twice with content updates then gave up on it - DO NOT PURCHASE. DEAD GAME.
Could have been something really special. Shame on me for not noticing the AI art and developer name. Games Incubator is just that - an incubator. They're known for releasing game after half-finished game and abandoning them all. I'd only buy this if it was on sale.
The act of making and selling chocolates is nice and relaxing, especially with a charming steampunk backdrop befitting of a chocolate factory, which sold me immediately. However, due to the repetition and the lack of any updates it's gotten hard to feel that much investment anymore after a hundred hours, especially when I discovered the dev team seems to have disbanded several months ago with no plans to deliver on what was promised. I really hate saying this because I thought this could shape up to be a nice little game with mysteries to unlock as you progress. And it seemed like the devs had an amount of love for it, but it doesn't look like we'll be seeing anything from them anytime soon. Also, due to them pumping out half-finished game after half-finished game with very little focus on making just one as good as it can be, I almost thought they were doing a bait-and-switch scam, not helped by the AI art in the banner. My hope is that they've found enough scruples to know this is not a good look and will make a positive change. Until the devs have gotten back on their feet and actually put the work in, focus on one game at a time, maybe find more capable people, I will not be continuing this game. Nor can I recommend it as it is, despite its positives. Extremely disappointing and sad.
Ignore the fact I haven't played in almost a year that's for a reason THIS GAME HASN'T HAD ANY UPDATES IN OVER A YEAR they released several content updates after release then went silent and when asked on the discord they give the excuse "This isn't a priority right now" HOW THE HECK IS A GAME THAT DOESN'T HAVE ALL THE PROMISED CONTENT NOT A PRIORITY. This is the second game I've bought that Games Incubator developed that was abandoned shortly after release never again the biggest news in the past 10 months was them asking to be nominated for the Steam Awards
I was incredibly disappointed by this game. Here are some lowlights: - The textures of the ingredients in the bowls might as well be a low res stock photo. I'm pretty sure that's literally what they are actually. The text everywhere is jagged and horrible looking. My graphics were set to highest and I had a smooth framerate, so I wasn't expecting visual issues. - The entire gameplay loop mainly consists of "watch number move" at varying speeds. I expected this to some extent, but the rate at which they move is EXCRUCIATING, and if you try to make them go too fast, you muck everything up. Some things CAN be too immersive. - When you screw up (maybe? because I really didn't a couple of times), you get an unusable mass and start over. Fair enough. But maybe you want to load to the last autosave. Don't do that. It showed me I had perfect tempered chocolate and I failed the order because I somehow delivered a bar of unusable mess. I can't explain why it was telling me I had one thing and scored me on another. - This last one may be just me, but the motion really set off my motion sickness. Increasing the field of view honestly made it worse, not better, and that's something I routinely have success with. I have some more feelings about things like the interface being excessively clunky, and world events firing off constantly (ok the price of milk has doubled twice but I don't even know how to order anything yet, and I can't stop in the middle of this and look at whatever you pinged me about). But what I really want to say is I've been a Steam user for over a DECADE and I have never requested a refund for a game... until now.
So I waffled a bit on this, but I do think this game has some good simulation of chocolate making. However, it's just not quite polished enough for me to recommend to other people. I'd actually say that their newer game candy shop simulator looks like the expression of the ideas they were exploring here, and I'd say check that one out instead. No shade to the devs, this game is just not quite ready for prime time
While the idea of the game is nice it become rather tedious the furthe you get my main issue with the game is the fact that at the beginning you are introduced to Nougat our little robot helper with the promise to make upgrades to improve his usefullness well he never become useful because all he can do is grab tools (bowls and such) which i always had on me or on the workspace, move stuff somewhere (which he doesnt place into shelves but just tosses) and most useless he can maintain your maschines by tighten the bolts (while yes sounds usefull ive never really used it) in short you cant make him ease the workload by telling him to make chocolate or even get ingredients the biggest upgrades you can get in game are the upgrades to the maschine even though they just allow you to make larger quantities of chocolate add on the fact the game hasnt seen any updates in the last year and well lets just say you better get a different game
There are some positives to the game (it's fun, has a decent tutorial but allows for creativity and gives you benchmarks to work toward), but the final form of the game having multiple areas that are still locked, and not much promise of an update coming to unlock any of that, leaves too much unfulfilled promise for me to recommend this game to anyone. I absolutely encourage those who don't have it to not buy it. And in future, I will likely avoid any other games by this developer.
This game has a potential future but for me it feels so lacking. The biggest problem is the very repeating patern. I love baking and a baking themed game is up my ally, but the prograssion time of the game is way to slow to actual feel it. The things you make feel very much the same and above that you lack tutorials. You are expected to know stuff for the first time without tutorials, on how to actually make new shapes and package it.
