About
ABOUT THIS GAME
Adrift in the ruins of a collapsed empire, you and your ship are a tenuous lifeline to the scattered peoples that make the few remaining green islands their home. Brave hostile seas and dying lands to transport goods that can be the difference between starving and survival for those that watch the rising sun for your sails on the horizon.
Following Seas is a game about ships and the sea. Transport cargo, fish, and fight the weather in an unforgiving open world.
YOUR HANDS ON THE WHEEL
You have great control over your sails, using detailed physical simulation of wind forces, you can trim your sails by adjusting the position and length of guide ropes. Manage stability by adding or removing ballast, or positioning your load to maintain an even keel. Use navigation tools like the compass, chronometer, or quadrant to track your position. Following Seas aims to be an accessible but complex sim-lite. Understanding your ship is key, but this is not a full simulator.
Fast travel and various convenience features are present -- but this is not a swashbuckling adventure game. The pace is slow, intensity infrequent, and moment to moment experience will be often mundane.
YOUR FEET ON DECK
Command your ship from first person, and explore the detailed ships that draw inspiration from historical vessels that sailed between the 15th and 18th centuries. Inspect your provisions and cargo, batten the hatches, and catch that horizon!
Unforgiving Seas
Winds can be fickle, and storms only rise when you need them least. Progressive flooding is simulated, along with negative stability effects caused by the freesurface effect of onboard floodwaters. A moment of inattention could see you capsize, and then at the bottom. You must manage your pumps, along with your load and heading to stay afloat in heavy seas.

I was Contacted by the Developer to investigate the crashing problem. I have to admit I was surprised, it's never happened to me before. With this in mind I've decided to recommend the game, even though it's not as yet fixed, I feel hopeful it will be within the foreseeable future. For all I like about this game, and there's a lot, NOTHING kills a game faster that repeated "crash to desktop". It happens all too frequently and reloading doesn't help, it crashes again in the exact same place. So you either load an earlier save and pray, or restart altogether. It's just so bloody tiring. If / when it's fixed, I'll revisit this.
for a game I really wanted to like but this piece of junk might be the worst I have seen and the last 20 years I end up in the water even when I'M in the middle of my boat I have the full version its worse than the demo never seen so many glitchs very sad to see SAVING GAME IS BROKEN

Really fun once the sailing clicks Following Seas is a solid Early Access sailing sim that rewards actually learning how the boat works. Once you get past the initial “why won’t this rope do what I want” phase and understand basic sail trim, steering, and how the boat behaves, it becomes genuinely enjoyable. The sailing itself feels technical in a good way. You’re managing sails, dealing with real leaks, pumping bilges, and making actual trades between ports. The first successful cargo run felt rewarding. It’s the kind of game that gets better the more attention you pay to it. My main wish right now is that there was more to do on deck while you’re underway and the sailing is smooth. Once you’re trimmed up and on course, it can get a little quiet. Looking forward to seeing what gets added as development continues. More systems, more activities, more reasons to move around the boat would go a long way. If you like technical sailing games (Sailwind-style) and don’t mind Early Access, this is worth checking out. Just be ready to spend a little time learning the controls before it starts feeling good.
it is a very acurate depiction of taraditional sailing and is giving me the tall ship fix i need.
Very early game set up, but promising, and certainly impressive for a one band man running everything. I really wish there were a more in deep tutorial and some time is hard to understand which rig is tied to what, but still, the challange to keep your ship sailing where you want is rewarding on its own. I'm in the very early stages of the game yet, sailing the small ship I find at the start, but I'm not regretting the purchase. The walking part is a bit rough and may bee the speed is to high to be realistic. Techinically wise, My computer id decent, in processor, memory and GPU and I haven't find blatant lock up or bugs to report. As I will progress and acces more ships, I will update my review.
runs pretty rough for me on a 4090 and i9 13900kf while in 1080p res which is just unnaccpetable tbh, massive suttters. Generally runs worse than the demo and the sailing has not felt as intuititve or good to me as the demo. I finally get the ship sailing right and it bugs completely out flipping around and sending my flying. I do hope the game gets better but the pace of development and state of the game has left me dissapointed as someone who has followed for quite awhile now.
For early access this is pretty good. The sailing is fun. Just be careful about how you tie the lines to things, it can get tangled if your not careful
While the free Demo had some issues, it was playable and performance was ok. Since then, the developer pushed many updates. Each update made the game worse, esp the physic-calculations. And finaly, the developer decided to move to an complete new Unity-Engine, which makes the game unplayable. The FPS went down from stable 60 to 10-15. While suffering lower FPS, the game stutters all over the place, even that onyl 6 GB of VRAM of my 16 GB are in used.(AMD 9070) So instead of trying to fix the many physic-issues, developer updated to a new Unity-Engine and make things even more complicated and unmanageable. On top of all this, the developer seems to live within its closed Discord-bubble, and never responds to any Steam-community issues/threads.
