This is a game that brings back childhood memories of playing it as a little boy on the Commodore Amiga 500. It's just a shame that the game doesn't have the same soundtrack as the original game. Also the boss fight, not the same as in the original game, but I still had a good time. It still wants other favorite Amiga games like -Turrican II: The Final Fight, Silkworm, Apidya and others that I used to love.
First Samurai is an ancient game from 1991. It's a whopping 33 years old at the time of this review. The game lacks support for any modern gaming display resolutions (or widescreen monitors), hasn't been modernised or updated to run smoothly on modern gaming PCs. Despite this lack of modernisation, it carries a pretty high price tag for such an ancient game. This seems to have been put on Steam as a nostalgia gouge, or just a cash grab to try profit from abandonware. First Samurai is just another rejected 2D platformer for the Atari ST home computer, intended to be played with an RS232 joystick. You may be wondering why a crap rejected 1990's home computer game belongs on Steam and the answer is, you're right, it doesn't. This is another abandonware cash grab by Piko Interactive, who swindle their hands onto old abandoned/broken/dead games then try to swindle Steam gamers into paying them for someone else's old abandoned game. Ethical? Nope. This was never a good platformer. It's a hack'n'slash centric platformer where you collect pickups and use a variety of ranged and melee attacks, but nobody bothered back on the Atari ST or Amiga, and nobody is bothering now, either. This was garbage then and it's worse now... it just throws a spotlight on this shady gravedigging that Piko Interactive are doing... polluting Steam with garbage that emulator enthusiasts wouldn't even bother downloading. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. The game only displays in 4:3 pillarboxed aspect ratio, due to the age of the game, it predates the 16:9 widescreen gaming standard established back in 2006. It's possible they're marketing this towards people using an old CRT they found in a dumpster, or this game is being specifically marketed towards people gaming on PC's from 1995... either way, this isn't really acceptable in the modern era of PC gaming. It's obviously not going to look right on a modern 16:9 gaming display. Bewilderingly, the game doesn't include proper audio controls, so you can't turn off the annoying background music, you'll need to alt+tab out and stop the music using the Windows sound mixer. This is obviously not okay and it's unclear why the developers chose not to include this basic feature. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. The poor quality of this game is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 4 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 50,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected. First Samurai is relatively expensive for an abandonware nostalgia gouge, at $12 USD, and it's not worth it. The game is just too old, hasn't been modernised. And as the old saying goes, you can't go home again. Even when it was new, this was never a triple-A game. This is the kind of game that went almost directly from the warehouse into the cheap bargain bins at the front of the shop. Now, on Steam, without any modernisation? This is impossible to recommend. For comparison, the $12 asking price for this game could get you games like "Bioshock Infinite", "Dead by Daylight" or "Rust". Quality, professionally made games like those are frequently on sale cheaper than this. There's also thousands of free, superior quality games on Steam.
Profile Features Limited! Valve have marked this game as "Profile Features Limited" at the time of this review. This is usually caused by poor sales figures and low community acceptance for the game (to date). Until this status changes, this game will not give you +1 to your Game Collector badge count, appear in profile achievements or any other Steam meta-accomplishments, nor can it be displayed in some profile showcases. If these factors are important to you, it may be worth holding off before buying this game.
a really solid and awesome plataform game is kinda short but very enjoyable and have good replay value

bardzo dobra gra z Amigi i ta muzyka..
Jogo ruim.
I used to own this game in the past. It was supposed to be like that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jrNpMp-Onag Once I saw it was available in Steam I was so happy. I actually thought it would be exactly the same. When I started playing with it though I was sure there was something different. Even the intro video, the "the first samurai" title... they all seemed off. As if it was not the game I used to play back in the day. So I looked it up on youtube and found the video posted a few lines up. That was it. That was the game I wanted to buy. That game is named "The first samurai" but it's not the game I used to own. It's a different thing altogether. I asked for a refund after playing less than half an hour with this game. I suppose that most people will buy this game wanting to relive the moments they enjoyed back in 1991. Most people will buy this out of nostalgia. I cannot suggest that. The game looks like a legitimate copy but it's a remake.
Un gioco un po cosi, particolare, uscito nel 1991, che dura i soliti 40 minuti, che ha abbastanza rigiocabilità.
