⭐ Overall Rating: 4 / 5 Final Fantasy XIV is one of the most thoughtfully crafted MMOs available today—an experience defined by exceptional highs, a few frustrating lows, and a level of polish that reflects years of careful iteration. It’s a game that rewards commitment with depth, beauty, and a sense of belonging that few online worlds manage to cultivate. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Combat & Job Design: 5 / 5 The combat system is definitely a major highlight of FFXIV. Every combat job—all 21 of them—feels like it was designed with a clear identity and gameplay philosophy in mind. High‑level rotations are intricate and satisfying, rewarding players who enjoy optimization and mechanical precision. There is even a single side content-restricted job to add flavor to this, albeit with limited uses in high-end content. The 11 crafter and gatherer jobs are equally deep, forming a robust economic ecosystem with its own gear, rotations, and progression. And the fact that one character can play every job remains one of the smartest design decisions in MMO history. Drawbacks: early‑level combat is slow. ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ World, Atmosphere & Visuals: 4.5 / 5 Eorzea is one of the most vibrant and inviting MMO worlds ever created. Cities feel alive, landscapes are breathtaking, and the environmental storytelling is rich with detail. The world feels handcrafted, not procedurally assembled. The soundtrack elevates everything—Soken’s compositions are emotional, energetic, and iconic. I cannot stress enough how much the music brings everything together and WILL stick with you. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Glamour & Character Customization: 5 / 5 FFXIV’s glamour system is a game within the game. The sheer variety of armor models, dyes, hairstyles, accessories, and fashion‑focused gear allows for endless hours of visual customization. Whether you want to look regal, edgy, adorable, intimidating, or outright ridiculous, the game gives you the tools to express yourself. The glamour dresser, plates, and transmog system make it easy to maintain multiple looks, and new glamour items arrive constantly through raids, dungeons, events, crafting, and seasonal content. For many players, glamour truly is the real endgame — and the game fully embraces that identity. ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ Story & Narrative: 4 / 5 Once the story finds its footing, FFXIV delivers some of the strongest narrative arcs in the MMO genre. Heavensward, Shadowbringers, and Endwalker are standout experiences—richly written, emotionally resonant, and ambitious in scope. Dawntrail was fun, just not as bright a highlight as the other expansions. However, A Realm Reborn’s pacing remains a huge hurdle, with slow exposition and filler quests that can test a new player’s patience. Gotta earn the good stuff. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Community: 5 / 5 The community is almost suspiciously friendly. New players are welcomed, questions are answered without sarcasm, and group content is generally cooperative rather than competitive. Toxicity exists, but it’s shockingly rare compared to most MMOs, from my experience anyway. ⭐⭐⭐☆☆ Systems & Customization Depth: 3 / 5 While job design is excellent, build customization is extremely limited. There are no divergent builds, no talent trees, and minimal stat experimentation. Your job plays the way the developers intended, with little room for personal variation beyond glamour. That said, you can customize your HUD, hotbars, macros, etc. into what you need it to be, to play the way you want. ⭐⭐⭐☆☆ Queue Times & Progression Flow: 3 / 5 DPS queue times—especially after major patches—can be rough. When new content drops, everyone wants to play the flashy DPS jobs, and tanks/healers become the bottleneck (most of the time). Progression pacing also suffers early on. Combat feels slow, your toolkit is limited, and the game takes its time before revealing its true depth. Final Verdict — ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ Despite its flaws, Final Fantasy XIV is a masterwork of MMO design. Its combat, worldbuilding, storytelling, glamour system, and community create an experience that’s both welcoming and endlessly rewarding. If you can push through the slow early hours and accept the rigid job structure, you’ll find a game that offers unforgettable adventures, emotional storytelling, and a world worth returning to again and again.
Extremely well made =) gives me the same feeling i got when i entered the World of Warcraft scenery back in 2003
