This game perfectly encapsulates every negative JRPG stereotype. I painfully ground out the 100% achievements and immediately dipped. 10 year old PC port is a straightup copy^paste with zero optimization, graphics are muddy, FPS is garbage, camera is atrocious. Using the melee lock-on gives you literal motion sickness, and your attacks don't even track the target anyway. It feels like the devs didn't even playtest their own game->over half the bosses fly, rendering melee characters (which make up 70% of the roster) completely useless. The overworld is needlessly bloated and entirely barren, making traversal an absolute snoozefest, save for those giant horned beasts that just one-shot you out of nowhere. This ties directly into the godawful sidequest and Akademeia time management systems. You have limited time in the hub and can only hold ONE quest at once. This means you have to burn your time leaving the academy, walk minutes across an empty map to kill a mob, and run all the way back just to pick up the next. Why couldn't they just let us batch-accept them? Even talking to NPCs eats up your time for blind RNG rewards, sometimes you get a clutch full-revive Phoenix Down, but most of the time it's useless trash. Difficulty scaling is an absolute joke, I love a good, fair challenge, but type0 only has two modes: mind-numbingly easy or get f**ked into the dirt by every dude. OneShot mechanics are fine in games like Dark Souls, but the hitboxes and iframes here are so janky and inconsistent that your only viable strat is to spam the stamina-free dodge roll and pray. As for the story and characters? It's a JRPG. That tells you everything u need to know.

Reviews: 2/10
Ever since the game came out, it’s mostly received negative criticism & I have to say that some of it makes very little sense & especially a lot of it is extremely unfair. It’s genuinely a good Final Fantasy. The combat system is easy to adapt to & the story & themes it deals with are honestly cruel & depressing; the game shows something brutal within the first 15 minutes & that tone stays present throughout the entire experience. The game deserves a remake where the characters & world are expanded & some parts of the story are showed. The protagonists all have their personalities & (little) moments but it feels like the story is mainly focused on two specific characters & I’m not even sure they can really be considered “protagonists” beyond the forced focus the game gives them… I say forced because the game actually shows very little about them & you might only end up empathizing with one of them. The other only really becomes sympathetic if you played their arc in Opera Omnia (which isn’t even playable anymore & we don’t even know if it’s canon, thank you SQEX). A remake could expand on that too, along with the backgrounds of Kurasame, Emina, Kazusa, exploring their relationship, the same for Aria & Qator. Exploring/Expanding characters like these, the classmates you can recruit, Cid, Tokito etc.. Because even if they aren’t protagonists, they’re still very interesting characters. Despite the game spanning so many days, the dialogue for almost every NPC changes during each break period, based on what’s happening in the main story. Even on mission days, before leaving the academy, some NPCs still inside the academy have updated dialogue as well. Some towns also get their own development over time. That’s something else I really appreciate, because even the NPCs end up contributing to the experience instead of just being decoration. It also makes the world feel alive. To fully understand some parts of the story, you have to do side events (the game is limited by specific hours/days, and those events always consume 2 hours, while leaving the academy consumes 6). A huge part of the lore also ends up being "hidden" inside the in-game encyclopedia, which even contains scenes you never actually see during your gameplay/s. Personally, I don’t mind learning more about the characters & story through “secondary” content. I actually appreciate it because it helps immerse me more in the world, but the fact that such a large portion of the story is "hidden" inside that encyclopedia… I don’t know if that was intentional, caused by lack of time, or lack of budget but also you can tell certain parts were rushed in the main story. I’ll say it again: this game deserves a remake & more appreciation/love. Unfortunately, though… this isn’t FF7. It isn’t loved by SQEX, nor by most FF fans. Which is a real shame. I really wish more people appreciated it, this game have so much potential...
I love replaying final fantasy type zero, The story and characters are fantastic, and that ending was absolutely insane would highly recommend give this game a shot
One of the worst ports I've ever seen. Bought the game years ago and never got to play it. It just won't run or won't run properly. Do not give them money for this trash.
Really like the game but it crashes constantly once you get to a world map mission on AMD cards. If anyone has a fix to this let me know.
This is easily the most brutal and bloody FF game, with a interesting plot about 14 child soldiers who are blessed with true magic, and is seen as the best of the best, surviving each suicide mission. One of the endings always makes me sad ,its worth playing for to see there journey. There are multiple endings and NG+ I have a Love/Hate relationship with this game its a guilty pleasure The gameplay mechanics are solid, It rewards players who are defensive and waits for the enemies Weak points to appear. The bosses are Strong, Tough and Fast, If you rush in to attack you are certainly going to die, especially against airborne enemies, If you don't have a ranged attacks, you are ♥♥♥♥♥♥ and have to wait for them to land. Timing is everything, every Attack, Magic and Ability has a startup speed, which means you have to stand and attack on the right time to hit the Break / Killsight mark, to deal Massive Damage, That makes every character unique to play as, you are free to experiment to your hearts content and mix and mash to create your own playstyles. Leveling up characters is so tedious and takes to damn long. Another kool mechanic is Harvesting Phantoma from defeated enemies, which restores some MP and it's used to level up your Magic spells. The music is pretty amazing, fits well for the military fantasy theme. The ONLY time you can equip weapons and amour, is when you touch the Save points The RTS missions are fun and sometimes to easy Feels like a Mobile game. The Map and radar sucks The English voices is meh Traversing the overworld sucks Only doing 1 quest at a time Sucks Limited timed Quests is annoying The Camera SUCKS! its too zoomed in and obstructs your view, the PS4 version is better.
After 3.5hs into the game, I regret my teenage age for buying this piece of ♥♥♥♥, worst than FF3.
Changing this to a positive review with a few caveats. The opening segments are a bit rough, and in typical SE fashion many mechanics and systems are poorly explained. But once combat "clicks," it's very rhythmic -- a few boss fights notwithstanding. TYPE-0 has one of the better FF stories. It's told like a military documentary. Someone familiar with the past ~15 years of FF -- Fabula Nova Crystallis, FFXIV -- will find many well-worn concepts and characters. It's interesting to see what aspects of TYPE-0 ended up in the early FFXIV storylines. However playing TYPE-0 in the Big 2026 really highlights that FF has become a bit stale in *how* they tackle their "crystals and summoning" mythos. We've also come full circle where the gameplay is sort of in vogue thanks to roguelikes. You have a base of operations and can replay missions or grind on the overworld until the next mission. Yeah, it's a PSP game with a janky camera that's more of an enemy than actual enemies. You clear bad guys in a series of generic interconnected rooms/boxes that make up a level. There's the traditional FF overworld navigation, which I really miss in modern games. The open world excesses post 2011 (when the game was originally released in Japan) make me appreciate a lot about the "simple" approach here. However the in-game map is atrocious, remembering which towns have which vendors is annoying, & chocobos are an expendable resources for some reason. The worst part of the game is your NPC squad. Squad management is clunky, and the NPCs are braindead. Apparently this was a co-op multiplayer game in Japan, and the HD release was updated to replace that with barely-functioning NPCs. They'll stand right in front of giant mechs, eat mechanics, etc. In conclusion, I had fun with the game but SE's ambition oftentimes exceeds their budget and the PSP platform. It's kind of wild that a game like this ended up on a mobile platform in the first place, I guess we were eating good back then and didn't realize it.
This final fantasy game deserves so much more praise and it is a shame that the sequel was cancelled and not enough people know about Type-0 and its cancelled sequel Type-Next
