This game clearly was designed for oled hmds like the Rift CV1. The game supports native Oculus drivers - and you'll need that. Using lcd hmds like Index this game will be very blurry - it supports DLSS, and starts to look nice (=non-blurry) using Index res 400-500% - but then performance tanks using my oc'ed RTX 3090. So yes, devs recommending a 3080 Ti is no joke - in fact even a RTX 4090 might not be enough - if you want a non-blurry image quality using lcd hmds. Or just get the great old Rift CV1 - using EPIC setting and ss 2.5 (27 mill pixels per image combining both eyes), the image quality is awesome, and fps about 45, but ASW 2.0 helps. And the game is now playable and enjoyable - and looks much better than blurry Index res 300% (which is also about 27 mill pixels). The trailer shows the content quite nicely - it's one of the most beautiful VR games I've seen, but until RTX 5090 is here, or devs get the game optimized (this is early access) - go get that Rift CV1 or original Vive (Pro).
Experienced on the Meta Quest 2
You can view my review & gameplay here: https://youtu.be/PMEISIARElU FERD is one of the most beautiful looking games in VR. However, you will need a beefy rig to get the most out of it. On my RTX 3080, I decided to settle for 45 fps in order to get increased super sampling (Oculus debug tool 1.2) so that the game wouldn't be blurry at a distance (since this is an archery game, you don't want a blurry image). I did have graphics set to EPIC and DLSS on to get the best image possible. I did enjoy the eye candy. Game is absolutely gorgeous. Unfortunately, the rest of this game isn't all that great. The archery gameplay is pretty basic. There are no upgrades, no skill trees, and there's not even different arrow types or different bows. The only alternate attack is a sword swing when enemies get too close, which is even more basic than the archery. The archery isn't bad per se, there's just other VR games with much better archery gameplay, including In Death or Sacralith. There isn't much content either. There's only 3 levels in the single player campaign which you can beat in a little over 30 minutes. There is one multiplayer level as well, but I was unable to test that out. There's not much enemy variety as well, you basically have normal enemies, enemies with shields, & then enemies with bow & arrows (some with fire). I did enjoy the game, but there is no reason for a subsequent gameplay. I have no motivation to beat the game as I have already gotten to near the end, but you have to repeat everything, even the tutorial, to get back to that point. The game is not dynamic enough or have enough depth to make it worth your time to try more than twice. Keep in mind, the game is in Early Access and may improve in the future. But for right now, it is lacking content to justify its price tag. Rate 6/10. If you're looking for eye candy & a game to show case to family & friends new to VR, this would be a good game for that purpose. Otherwise, I would say wait for a sale or a content update.
Please note: I received a free Steam key through the Steam Curator Connect program. FERD is an Early Access paid VR game where you use bow and arrow to defend your Viking comrades from hordes. It worked on my HTC Vive and Index system, sounded ok, played ok, looked ok. Has a short tutorial. Has aiming guide for your bow but still hard. You stand there while using bow and arrow or sword to defend yourself and your people, for as long as possible. Has 30 steam achievements. Multiplayer is only Invite 3 of your Steam friends. The image is a bit blurry with my HTC Vive. Might look better with good OLED panels in the HMD. Buy this game on sale, if you like archery games. I got a free key for this from the Steam Curator program. ViVE VR curator group
I like having a change of pace from the few other bow games out there. It is a bit blurry. I have the Index and I see soooo much motion blur. Well i'm not sure what it is. I didn't see anyone else on multiplayer. But the game did just come out. The story mode is interesting, but fairly anemic so far. I can't wait to see where this game goes. Please remove the cheater aiming circles. And I need some sort of viewpoint adjustment for looking down the arrow when its pulled back. I couldn't figure out how to get to a menu at all once I was inside the game.
Blown away by the stunning visuals. And nice touch on the control system, easier than most. A must-play for any VR enthusiast imo. Must say I can't wait to see where this goes in Early access. More levels and content please. And maybe a menu option to turn the sights off.
The game is extremely simple. And not a single sale discount. Refund.
excellent bow and arrow game with good graphics. The main campaign is very hard though.... I cant get up to the gate in the 3rd round without getting killed, then you have to start all over again from 1st round, Please could the devs fix this. Needs some other polishing like the sword fighting system, but this is my favorite bow and arrow game right now.
VR archery with exellent graphics. One of the most beautiful VR games i´ve seen. The story mode is enjoyable and gets very intense. maybe there should be more levels but it´s promising for early access anyway.
I got this game a while ago and at that time the performance was pretty bad. With the recent update, the performance has gotten so much better! This is a fun game, and with beautiful environments. Shooting arrows from a ship while vikings are firing at you from ashore is very fun. Can't wait to see where the developers go from here.
