Jack Nelson, a 24-year-old fire lookout, transferred to a new outpost. As he settled into his new home, he couldn't shake the feeling that something was off, little did he know what was transpiring down in Ironbark State Park.

Fears to Fathom — Ironbark Lookout Fourth episode, developed by Rayll, this game became the highest regarded of the very successful horror series, became popular on social media and for good reason, it's a near masterclass in tension & isolation and uses very smart audio to torment you throughout. ——————————————————— You play as Jack Nelson, on his way to work as a fire lookout in an incredibly atmospheric, dense and isolated forest. This series can definitely draw comparisons to walking simulators but don't let that put you off... it perfectly nails a slow-burn experience, perfectly blends cozy, everyday activities (cooking) and watching the forest with psychological VHS terror, the feeling of being stalked and without relying on cheap jump scares. ——————————————————––– Has been criticsed for being linear and short but it's nothing to complain about for me, however it might be a bit unauthentic for being a series being based on a true stories, definitely mostly a fictional story here, although very realistic and well driven with a good narrative and isn't too far fetched. Ironbark Lookout is an extremely solid 90 minute horror experience. Fears to Fathom – Ironbark lookout 8.3 /10

Decent story but wrong medium. Ultimately this is a little bit of a chore to play. Aggressively linear, needlessly dull, and, in places, relatively scary. Something of an irritating experience. I suppose this is a real 'your mileage may vary' type situation. Its highs really are quite high: it conjures a really authentic sense of place. Who doesn't like being in the woods with spooky things going on? But it's biggest problem is that it is narratively constrained by its format. I won't go into details by virtue of it being something of a spoiler. The game is fundamentally structured as short checklists of not particularly interesting objectives to be accomplished in order to propel the player from one set-piece scare to another. The scares are good, mind you, but everything in between is less appealing. All in all, not bad, and I feel like I'm being harsh on a game naturally limited in scope by virtue of small development team. I would say that given its price, and its (admittedly small number of) well-orchestrated scares, that this is a recommend but with a few caveats. Also, Connor's V/O did a great job: really nailed the tone of a guy who does not take the new guy seriously.
