Three bosses and four zones in, I cannot recommend this game in its current state nor for its retail price of $25. PROS: -Banging soundtrack -Cool character designs -Cyberpunk aesthetic -Waifu bait Cons: -Probably the worst VA I've heard in a long time. -Story starts at the speed of light with exposition dumps every dialogue slide. -Clunky movement and controls -Enemies move in constant slow-motion -Grab bag of advancement ideas; spell cards, skill trees, stats, gear upgrades. Lots to manage with no meaningful way of testing things or having definite numbers -No meaningful settings menu to speak of. You have three audio sliders; good luck with anything else. I purchased the Kickstarter version of the game and will continue playing it as I feel like it; I will update my review if my opinion changes. If you are really interested in the game, wait for a sale to buy it for $10 or less.
I wasted my money backing this project on Kickstarter to see what a pile of rubbish it came out to be. Not looking forward to anything more from Gambit Ghost Studio if they even survive after this extreme let down.
Woof. Looks good, but isn’t. Played on Steam Deck, but I don’t think the game’s problems are limited to that platform. Mediocre writing, and cringe voice work. Horrendously long, far too frequent load times interrupt ponderous maps, and simplistic, sluggish, unresponsive combat. The UI is also sluggish, and falls out of sync. There’s no mapping, and it’s easy to get lost. Just all around, an amateurish effort not worth the asking price. Feels early access, but apparently isn’t. I’m refunding.
Good indie game Adventure PROS • Artwork: The visuals are the true highlight. • Interesting Story: Keeps you engaged and wanting to know more. • Fun Gameplay with Build Variety: Enjoyable gameplay with exciting skill and build variety to try out. • Rogue-Lite Elements: Acquiring skills randomly adds a thrill to the adventure! • Become Powerful with the Right Build: Once you've found the perfect build, you might feel a little overpowered, but skill and stat reset with no drawbacks are a big plus. CONS • More Enemies Needed: I wouldn't mind facing a variety of foes along the way. • Decent UX/UI: The menus are okay, but Navigate system could be better. • Bugs: Notmant major issues, just encountered a few bugs hoping for fixes soon. In conclusion, Farsiders offers a good indie game experience with mesmerizing artwork that truly stands out. The gameplay is exciting, with various skill and build combinations to try out, adding rogue-lite elements that make each playthrough unique. Though you might become a bit overpowered with the right build, the skill and stat reset with no drawbacks add a positive aspect to the experience. While it has some minor gameplay and technical quirks, it's still a captivating experience worth trying, Buying Recommendation: Worth trying at full price, a must-buy on sale!
short answer: avoid this game longer: bad: controls are barely responsive, fighting feels fidgety and unresponsive, very frustrating at times (not that it makes it harder) worse: you will be going back and forth between empty places just to talk to an NPC then somewhere else, huge slow time sinks with many loading screens worst: cutscenes - so many things are wrong here, take a step - lose control and look at an unmoving character for 3-5 seconds before it speaks, followed by nothing happening for 3-5 seconds and you can move again... now once or twice you wouldnt notice... but this is each and every cutscene, and there are many... So so many, and they are chained, even if you skip one you are in another and another (note that skipping requires you to hold a button for abit) - and this gets more frustrating as you go. the writing... i'm guessing this is a translation as oddities kept getting worse and few hours in i just want to skip the endless texts but skipping is also a fight against frustration.
After almost 5 hrs. of open-heart playing, I have to stop playing at ACT 5 and rate it "Not recommended". This game need to be polished more than this. I'll comeback and change the review once it's improved. I still have hope that if the developer have the time, they can do better. What it does good. - Artwork. Quite beautiful. - Boss fight is OK. Hard but beatable in 2 - 3 tries. What's bad. - No map and mini-map. Just the direction for you to go. - Sometimes I have to walk for the entire map just to talk to the NPC. It's a waste of time. - Cannot modify controller button. For PS controller, Dash/evade is default on "X" button ?? Most of the game using "O". No ability to modify the controller make it very awkward for general finger reflection for Soul-like player. - Not many tutorials (maybe my mis-reading). Some mechanics has to be guessing through game play. ----> Perfect block. As far as I read, it doesn't say anything so have to try it to know it existed. ----> Spell equip. What's is Enchanted ?? Passive ??. ----> What is the yellow and red circle when enemy attack ? - Card skill feel like Mobile Gacha game. Farm 2 crystal to open a pack that give you 3 random cards and choose only 1.. What's the worst. - Sound effect of everything is wayyyyyyy to low and less impact (Spell, Healing, Boss skill, etc.).I feel like I play a silent game with only BGM and Normal attack sound. Sometimes I don't even know if they have a sound or not... - Lottttttttts of bugs. Found 2 Critical bugs so far (@ ACT 5). ----> Sometimes, when the talking cut scene is done, the game won't proceed to give you the control. So, I have to press Skip the cut scene in order to continue. ----> @ ACT 5, there is the enemy which throw something at you to create some dome that won't let you go out. When the dome disappeared, I still cannot move out no matter what I did, so I have to reload the check point and replay the stage. What could be improve. - Indicator stating ----> Dash cooldown ----> Buff and debuff on player and enemy. ----> Damage done to enemy. - Enemies variety. I feel like their attack pattern are quite the same. Just more of them.
It's Ok to play this Pro - Good art work, cute charactors - Good theme, cyberpunk and fantasy - Interesting Spell equip combo - easy to play - fine boss fight Con - it's still Beta Ver., short the story line - raw interface, feel like not much to do - lack of descibe menu, skill, control and attachment my suggestion - Status ; should write some deep detail, how much atk damage, atk speed, speed - spell ; should write more detail, how long cooldown, how much damage. - attachment ; should write some description that point where map it is. maybe with short story. - add codex that describe back ground of map, character and story
I'm only 40 minutes into the game, and I almost feel bad for writing a review at this point, but I'm not going to continue. The dreadful story with poor grammar, spelling, and errors abound will constantly take you out of the "action". You'll groan as somebody introduces their tech genius waifu character as "the Babu Frick of the team". I'm sure there are more "real world references" like this, but frankly the first one was plenty, thanks. It's as heavy handed as it is constant and bad. The combat is a dreadful button mash of the same one, two, three combo against the same "rush towards you with little purpose" AI. The controls are the reverse of every game you've ever played, ever. (B to interact, A to cancel, block is reversed, etc.). The movement is slow, and the combat is slower. You feel like your feet are stuck in molasses, with a paltry dash on a reload timer trying to make up for it. The first boss was laughable as you essentially walk to get out of the way of his big attack. Are those attacks telegraphed? YES! With a giant red illuminated path. It's literally impossible to miss. The artwork is very "high school on the back of my folder". I Kickstarted this and I feel like I was let down in every way. I could complain that I didn't get my Kickstarter rewards, but at this point I don't want them. I put more effort into this paragraph than they did into this dreadful title.
Art - Character artwork is great. - Environment looks awesome. But with so many detail, some detail can be a bit weird. - VFX are mostly good, but can be overwhelm from time to time when there are lots of enemies. - UI is not bad, but is not good either. Could use some upgrade and the game will be a lot more appealing - Navigate system probably going to be upgrade, current one looks like placeholder to me Gameplay - Easy to pick up, but still come up with variety of builds and mechanics - Quite fast pace for the fight, definitely enjoyable. But still not to the point that I addicted to it. - Enemies (Boss exclude) are too fragile in both early game and near the end game. Especially with the right build up - Boss can be quite challenging - Most enemies are human. Some robots or beasts addition should make the game feel more fantasy. - Journey can be linear. It's not confusing but a bit of puzzle or change of pace would be a nice addition along your journey. - UX is still confusing in some area of your gear set up menu - Even though you can re-allocate your upgrade points, I would prefer to know how much each upgrade boost your character. - Story is quite good, but too many unnecessary F*** bomb. Like they are trying to make their character look bad-ass but turn out less bad-ass instead. Sound - BGM is top notch, but too few of them (some scene re-use the BGM from other scene) - SFX is good overall, but still a few that feel lacking Overall I think this game is somewhat promising. Good things are there but still a lot that need to be polish. If they manage to get all those detail right, I'll recommend my friends to try it. Looking forward to try out the full-game.
I backed it on Kickstarter and i was excited to play it. there is a few problems that need to be resolved in order to change my mind about the game. 1. i reached frozen peaks area and the game starts to get real choppy with the frames. it kept freezing on me and kept dying by the frames drop. 2 The hit boxes on my character feel little big and kept getting hit for no apparent reason. 3 The AI need more work. Some times enemies kept walking in to each other. i recommend buying it if on sale for at least for 10 to 15 dollars.
