The story of Farewell North made me ugly cry all the way through the ending. I really enjoyed the ride, and the emotional ringer it put me through. It was a really nice concept for a game, and I would love to see more games like it in the future. In terms of gameplay, I think there were a few points for improvement. I suggest these knowing this game was a one person project, which was an achievement in itself, but I think the following could have helped elevate this game just a little further. 1. The game offers up Scottish Gaelic subtitles and emphasises the cultral importance of the language to the land and people. This was a wonderful touch - but given the effort to include Gaelic subtitles, I think it would have been even better to have the game voice acted in Gaelic, with English/Gaelic subtitles. 2. Cailey's character model - Cailey was a character I grew to appreciate by the end of the game. However, it took me longer to bond with her because her character model was so severely out-of-the-box, cookie cutter, generic female model. She had no individual or distinguishing features. I think a little extra care in designing her character model would have made her feel as important to the game as Chesley, rather than an afterthought. 3. This game needs A MAP T-T Even within the argument of immersion, you would bring a map kayaking around several islands. Even if you argued "these islands are home, so she knows them by heart", she could have them sketched in her notebook as an immersive way to give the player a map. Revisiting the islands to finish gathering collectibles became punishing without a map to refer to. Which meant the emotional note the story left me on was tainted by the immense frustration of the last hour of gameplay finding collectibles. All it needed was a map. Wonderful concept, less than perfect execution. But an achievement for a one person develoopment team.
Simply devastating. Beautifully done. The gameplay had one bug (for me, on mac) that was resolved by reloading, but otherwise every puzzle and mechanic ran smoothly. Very charming, but truly a tear jerker.
A border collie simulator that gradually overwhelms you with emotions
Incredible storytelling. Beautiful visuals and music. This game stayed with me for a very long time. I still think of it often. Beautiful, emotional, poignant game. I'm so glad I played it. I highly recommend it. Give it time in the first hours to breathe, for the story to take you in. For anyone who ever knew the love of an exceptional animal that was your soul mate, and for those who haven't, this is what its like.
Picture this: you're on a mission from god to herd and corral every wee beastie on the isles of Orkney because the line between order and bleating chaos is as fragile as the morning frost. Unfortunately, to fulfill your holy duty you must be chauffeured around by a human who is going through some grief or something, and you have to help her keep it together so you can focus on the real problem: sheep out of their pens. This introduces some allegorical nonsense and "puzzle platforming" into the mix, but hey you at least get some games of fetch out of it. Ignore the tears streaming down my face. They are unrelated to the best shepherd dog simulator of 2024.
It was a relly fun game loved the ending the music was excellent and so was the story line

Its such a great game, that makes it worse. I'm going to be stuck like this for hours. Thank you to the devs for this earthshattering heartbreak. I loved the game so much.
its great. made me cry. enjoy=)
Overall, great game. I loved the emotional side to this game that no other game really seems to capture. Gameplay was solid and no bugs at all. I was very emotionally invested and truly enjoyed the storytelling and the story it told.
