farever takes some good bits from other genres and wraps them reasonably successfully into a kind of 'mmo-lite'. the combat, which is kind of like a light action combat system with dodging/perfect blocking/abilities that can miss, is pretty great overall. it feels responsive and punchy, and the foundation of class skills w/ some gem and talent modifiers plus weapon-based skills to mix and match different builds is cool. the game is short a few classes, though (there are only four), and some more talent tree options/specs would be good here. the dungeons that i've tried, content-wise, are good, with bosses even having some light mechanics. the open world is stylized well and has a lot of elements taken from the open worlds of some recognizable open-world games like genshin impact, e.g., chests, jumping puzzles, or other small mini-challenges to tick off a map completion list, which makes exploration feel nice. the game lacks a lot of the social features that'd normally make this kind of 'mmo-lite' game shine, e.g., guilds, friends lists, group finders, etc., but this is forgivable in early access. sometimes you'll find other players running around the world, but the encounters aren't usually meaningful. anyway, the reason the review is negative: some performance issues should be expected in early access, but the degree to which the game routinely stutters/drops frames makes a lot of what would otherwise shine feel much worse. this is particularly bad in dungeons, some of which have wide-open areas that absolutely tank the framerate, including during boss encounters, which is really bad for a game with action combat. the game is not high-fidelity enough to warrant the abysmal performance on decent hardware. i held back leaving this review in anticipation of the first major update fixing some of the worst of the performance issues, but it has not, and so i can't recommend it. i'll update the review to positive if/when the developers properly address the performance issues, but as it stands, they're trying to grow a garden in poisoned soil.
10 hours getting to level 10. 10 hours getting to level 13. IDK if its just me but ive done all the events and quests in all the areas I have unlocked. done all the dungeons. idk what I'm missing here. like the content is good. but is my game broken? or is it actually this grindy.
Truly a delight. They have somehow captured the essence of what a good mmo experience is like but packaged it as an open world arpg. Combat is a blast. Exploration is integral to leveling up and finding gear. Boss battle mechanics are very challenging but are easy to understand what need to be done. You will die. You will meet other players. You will have fun. These devs are killing it. Total steal for sub 20 dollar game.
I loved so much about it but genuinely could not get past the pathetic performance. If they fix the performance and give a normal, clean, fluid experience, it is an auto-buy. After trying it, there simply isn't enough here, not enough carrot for the amount of stick to be worth putting up with the stutters and freezes. Mobs stuck at full HP, etc. I refunded it because they have not addressed the performance problems or their desire to fix them a single time. No amount of new content will bring me back - only good performance. Hardly any of the positive reviews can go without mentioning how bad the performance is and it really goes to show you that people are genuinely gritting their teeth and bearing this torture because they LOVE what is here otherwise and I totally get it. Not making performance priority #1 is a big mistake and I only want them to succeed. Best of luck!
Impossible to get 2 achievements due to bug. If you had done the shiny achievements on 1 character and that was about it but did not like that character and rerolled another then the 2 achievements for both zones will be incompletable. Since it looks like its locked to your 1st character created and if you deleted that character then your ultimately stuffed. There are also a couple of other things but not like having to get mastery on every single NPC, kill every singlke shiny NPC, kill every single Boss, complete every single dungeon, do every single quest find all world chests and secret orbs, do all that and then find that 1 achievement in both area's are bugged out. Now theres a new area opened but these bugs didnt get fixed. will update when/if they ever do

It's a bit unpolished, unfinsihed, and lacking in direction, but maybe it'll be good years down the road.
