English || Français (sous la partie en anglais) ----------------- A solo 4X game that takes place in a mythical chinese universe, easy to approach and offering a real challenge thanks to short but engaging games compared to the classic 4Xs. It avoids the pitfall of tedious micro-management during the middle and end games without sacrificing the complexity and reflection necessary for victory. Following the main quest is a real pleasure, first for the eyes with simple but beautiful graphics, then for the ears with a bewitching soundtrack and, of course, for the challenge. Unlike many "little" games, the interface is clear and easy to learn, the tutorial that unfolds as the game progresses according to your actions is clear and well thought out. On the strategic side, you will have to manage your development without destroying the world by balancing your extension, the ressources exploitation (and the pollution thus generated), your research and your troops necessary for your survival. The search tree is simple but has a real impact on your strategy. On the tactical side, you face your enemies in battle with die: choose a dice for each unit (fight, flee, defend) and then watch them roll before choosing the targets of the actions. Don't forget to take into account the initiative bar, a mistake can be fatal... As you unlock new researches, you get more powerful units up to the mythical creatures promised by the game's title. Their improvement is made by looting accessories or better dice on the map or at the end of the fights. The exploration of the map is made interesting by the many useful points of interest (resource, unit improvement material, etc.) but also by the need to discover the pollution areas that can make you lose the game by destroying the world. Locate them quickly to contain, clean or neutralize them because even if you choose a green approach, your opponents pollute the world as they please! On the replayability side, even if the main quest remains the same, the four factions offer a different approach thanks to their starting strengths and their specific mythical units. The icing on the cake: the soundtrack has songs dedicated to each faction. In a nutshell, a game that I recommend because it succeeds in synthesizing everything that makes a good 4X in short and intense games.
Update: I have changed my recommendation to No, because sadly, there are game breaking bugs and while I did have very good communications with the developer, he is unable to fix the game for me so I could have at least one game without it gamebreakingly crashing on me. The developer claims that others have actually been able to finish the game without crashes, so you might be one of them. He's a nice guy, really, and I hate that I have to do this, but I have an obligation to write correct reviews or I shouldn't write any review at all, so here it is. I haven't been able to finish one game without crashes and they all made the game unfinishable. The game, however, makes a save game for every turn, so it may be possible to go back several turns and try again. I am one of those people, however, who loses all pleasure if a game requires this from me, and I don't want to try it out. Please read on to my previous review if you want to understand why I feel sad about giving this game a negative review: === I give it a thumbs up with a warning: currently there are game breaking bugs that may prevent you from finishing the game. On the other hand, the developer has been very responsive and may continue to do so, so I will change this review if the bugs are fixed (or change it to thumbs down if not). The idea of this game is really nice. As a Reiki Master, I feel at home in this oriental zen atmosphere. The graphics are a bit 90's retro like, but they look good and are functional. You need to see for yourself if it's your thing I guess. The screenshots show what you can expect. You are one of four gods and you need to save the world or something like that. For that, you send out Shamans to build things that generate your kind of god-like energies that enable you to spawn fantastic creatures to attack these vicious portals and the spawns that come out of them. But beware: generating energy generates pollution and that's something you need to prevent. Everything is organised in a small story line which I haven't been able to finish yet because of the bugs. But it feels like I was getting close to finishing the last one that took around 2 hours. The game has a 4X feel and is turn based. You can take your time for everything and the game helps you to be in that relaxed state, mostly with the incredibly beautiful eastern music on the background. The user interface is a bit wonky and feels a bit unfinished. You expect the enter button to be attached to the upper right button, but it's not (always?). You expect to be able to drag between the 'TARGET' button and the target itself, but you need to really click and release it to get an arrow that you would just drag on a tablet. You need to click up to 3 times to select the item on the tile you need while there is more than enough screen space available to show all 3 of them at the same time (they could then even collapse until you mouse-over them.) When building stuff, you see all these stats with miniature icons and you can't always tell which one is what. Tooltips inside tooltips won't work so you need to look them up somewhere else. It's these kinds of things that make the game feel a bit wonky, but it's not the worst thing. Hey, I've played games in the 80's, I can coop with this. This game has a tutorial and it tells you enough to understand how it works. The game itself is working multi threaded (well it feels like it): while the turn is being processed, you can already give orders for the next turn and things like that. That's actually very nice. All in all, this is a decent game if the bugs get fixed and when they do, I will probably play it for lots of hours.

A bit confussing at first glance, but really fun once you get the hang of it.

Very nice game. I like the mythological units. Here is some gameplay for those curious how the game looks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d1lEGHOo2S8
Quite fun 4X game that doesn't need Proton to run on Linux? I'm in. Also, it's designed for short sessions, compared to 4X standard and that's awesome. I've been volunteering on beta test for this one so I'm maybe a little biased, but I must say that developer takes community seriously.
You are a Chinese mythos god seeking favor and chi in this turn-based strategy. Not as battley as others, plenty of exploration and development trees to be had. The low-spec is nice and nostalgic also https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdgYyTjXqGA
Disclaimer: My playtime is at the moment very limited but review so far (will update over time) + Great art style + good soundtrack - feels a little bit slowpaced
