Very cool game but if I hear Johnny Guitar come on the radio one more time im ending my own life on the spot
Fallout: New Vegas is easily my favorite Fallout game so far (though I still need to play Fallout 4). It builds on everything Fallout 3 established, and it's honestly incredible what Obsidian Entertainment managed to accomplish with only a year and a half of development. In many ways, it feels like a refined version of Fallout 3 in a new setting. The writing, progression, gameplay, world design and pretty much everything are all improvements over its predecessor. That said, I'd still recommend playing Fallout 3 first. It's a fantastic game in its own right, and New Vegas is set right after it so it makes more sense chronologically (I would also recommend playing the first two Fallout which are also great games occuring before Fallout 3). The DLCs are excellent as well, each offering a distinct experience that keeps things fresh. I also really enjoyed exploring the Mojave and desert / city center, abandoned Vaults etc. And again, the writing is great. Like Fallout 3, though, the gameplay became a bit repetitive after a while, and there are probably a few too many locations that don't end up being particularly interesting (which sadly also made exploration feel a bit mechanical after a while). The game is also very easy overall (too easy imo tbh). Also why does everyone stop playing Caravan halfway through the game? You can probably finish it in 40/50h while doing some exploration. I did pretty much everything (except maybe 5/6 quest that I did not find interesting) and it took me about 80/85h to do (including DLC). Overall, Fallout: New Vegas is an easy recommendation. It's frequently on sale for just a few dollars, runs on most machines, and offers a great Post-Apo RPG experience. I'd also say it's probably the least grim Fallout I've played so far, making it a very approachable entry point for newcomers.

It takes a certain kind of brain to enjoy the janky charm of this game. If you can get past how buggy it can be at times, and get past the hurdle of modding it, it truly is a life changing game. Very few games have ever brought my as much joy and entertainment that this game has brought me over the years. I highly recommend installing this with Fallout 3 with the Tale of Two Wastelands mod, as it is the quintessential way to enjoy the game in my opinion. They have a very well written guide for how to install the mod, along with other mods with TTW.
It's Fallout NV. If you know you know and if you don't the what have you been doing with your life. Not many hours on steam but play this to death on Xbox back in the day. It has ran great on Linux through Proton so far no issues.
