Just don't.
Better than elden ring
Można bić jaskiniowców
The short version: A fun, albeit short, imperfect and fairly easy game. Pick it up on discount if you're into this type of 2D slash'n'dodge style game and looking for something to play. I'll start by saying I see a lot of comparisons to Hyper Light Drifter, which I haven't played, so keep that in mind. Fallen Angel is one of a number of overhead pixel art slash & dodge style games. This is actually the first I've played of this type of game but I thought it was fun. Story: The story's nothing to write home about but it's enough to move the game forward. You're Lucifer, you want to kill God, there are some archangels in your way. Go get 'em! My HUGE mistake: There's an item in the game that says "Grants instant maximum health" which I took to mean an increase to your max health. Nope! These are basically the 'max potion' of the game. So I spent all of my currency throughout the game (which doubles as ammo, btw) wasting it on full heals and using them all in the safe area when I didn't need them. Those could've come in handy throughout the game for sure. That leads me to discuss the difficulty though. Difficulty: Most of the game is fairly easy. The enemies are varied at least; some require jump attacks, other special moves, others just need good dodging discipline. The main exceptions were
The enemies surrounded by gold swords who required a specific weapon to weaken. That took a bit to figure out, but then they were easy.
and the last boss which felt like a jump in difficulty but a deserved one. I would've been disappointed if the last boss was as easy as most of them. That said, there are challenge settings, so if one were to want to up the difficulty it seems there are ways to do that. Graphics: The graphics are fine for what they are. The art style isn't my cup of tea but they're par for the course for this type of game, and there are some areas where they really shine, such as a mountain peak overlooking some clouds with parallax scrolling or another overlooking a temple. The animations are fluid though, which is probably the most important part. Sound/Music: Also fine. The music was fairly subdued and atmospheric for the most part, which can be a good thing. The sound effects were fine and the voice acting wasn't great but also not bad enough to be laughable. Gameplay: As you probably know by now, most of the gameplay involves slashing, dashing, jumping and using special attacks, which can be swapped out based on the items you pick up. The controls themselves are responsive and probably my only minor complaint is the jumping feels off at first. You get used to it after a while but it never feels like you're jumping as far as you feel like you should. You can glide after a bit but it also feels slow, which is no fun. Conclusion: All that said, while I got through the game in a few hours and despite my minor complaints, I did have fun with it and honestly much more would've probably had it overstaying its welcome. For a few bucks on sale it's worth a pickup if you're looking for something new to play!
