If by chance you guys end up making a third game, I want you to create mini games surrounding the Siberian Death Cabin. The premise is that a woman - who’s often the mother of a young children (and is always the mother because you don’t ever have the father going through this) - is often subjected to domestic violence or kicked out because their spouse is cheating on them. So for some reason, they’re forced to live a life in poverty and in the freezing cold like it’s Siberia and head to this run-down cabin. There’s a bunch of matching puzzles you need to solve to repair various parts of the house, but often times the “person” playing the ad often always picks the wrong choice and lets the poor family freeze into ice cubes. I’m wondering if you guys would end up taking these kinds of ads and turning them into actual games for a third game. I do believe they could be rather interesting to adapt.
I like the idea but how the heck can they made such unintuitive controls? If the Escape-Button don't make you open the pausemenu, there is something wrong.
As much as I would like to give a positive review I can't because of pin pull 2's problems. Level 44 requires you to bring every material to the goal but most of the time one or two parts would fall through the ground causing you to fail. I hope an update happens or someone develops a mod that fixes the problem
Neat idea, horrible implementation. It's just a bunch of little things that show how little effort seems to have been put into this collection of mini-games: all the controls in this game are terrible the controls cant be remapped as far as I can tell for how easy levels for this game would be to make there's barely any. I've 3 starred almost every level by this point and half that time on record was just afk speaking of easy: the attempts to add optional difficulty with the score system is just such a miss. like half the mini-games just added a timer to the levels. A timer to puzzle games doesn't add difficulty just tedium, and it actively discourages stopping to think about the solution instead of just stumbling into it which is so easy to do, especially when those minigames have quite long animations that dont pause the timer (specifically with numbers dungeon) and buggy controls that misread input and are incredibly frustrating if you dont use a mouse and that timer doesn't pause when you win until a long animation plays, often taking several seconds away and sometimes losing you a star after you already won. finally there's a problem specifically with the pin pulling games where you just kind of have to rely on luck to win. Since you have exactly the number of balls you need to get to the end and they have a real tendency to fall off even when you do everything correctly. I had to do one of the levels (I think it was 30) about 20 times with the exact same process until the physics system decided to cooperate. It would've been a bit better if I were able to slow down and ensure everything went less chaotically but the stupid timer on the puzzle wouldnt allow that. Good idea; poorly done
This game is very much what it says on the tin, but even better than you'd think, as they actually built the puzzles like an actual video game so they build up in difficulty etc.etc. HOWEVER. A good chunk of the time, you will not be figuring out the puzzle, but fighting the godawful controls to try and actually perform the solution to the puzzle you figured out 30 minutes ago. This is especially egregious at the final level of the "guy fights numbered enemies" puzzles, which far outlasts its welcome.
In my review of "THOSE GAMES" 1, I shared a short wishlist of additional types of Those Games I'd like to see. Lo and behold, not only can I SAVE THE KING (AND QUEEN) in this new installment, but I can gather coins for them with the power of gravity, shoot bullets off of angled walls to hit a dancing goblin, do some horrible makeovers in the form of endless runner math, and do even more math in isometric dungeons! This sequel is slightly harder than the first game, but contains many of the same basic features, like the Gotcha! machine and rewards, daily missions, and monthly rankings. Some minigames, particularly Draw & Guard, play better with a mouse than a controller, but your mileage may vary. But anyway, the important thing is that now I know what Grandma was hiding: more of "THOSE GAMES"!
They overdo it with the "funny" physics, to the point that, especially some of the later "Pin Pull 2" levels but also some of the running game, are virtually impossible without a lot of luck. As soon as it was purely dependand on luck, "Will enough of the coins not be thrown out?" "will the girl swing her hips at the wrong time", they lost me. Sadly I already put too much time into it, so I can't refund it.
A lot of the levels in the later stages are needlessly tedious, either being too long (Numbers Dungeon) or requiring precise inputs (Spellbinding Scroll). It isn't worth the time it takes, and the reward of completion isn't as rewarding as you might think.
The "games" in this collection, by and large, are straight out of old free Flash games. If these are the sorts of games mobile gamers are being baited-and-switched with, you can call me Mr. T because I pity those fools. There's really very little to set this apart from Flash games of yore, frankly. Some I found fun and a little inspired. Some I did not. Some I questioned why I bought this game, even discounted. Compared to the previous pack, there are fewer insane UI decisions. There's a couple games that play quite well with the mouse, even. There's a few games that are still keyboard-mandatory, and there are a few new UX insanities involving backing out of menus. I have come to expect this genuine insanity from D3Publisher, I think the key to getting them to promote your game is to make really weird control scheme choices. I could go on a methodical breakdown of all the reasons I'm a bit... whelmed by this, but I can not rouse the interest in doing so. I'm sorry, I just don't feel any urge to write a rambling essay about it.* I've agonized over which thumb this game should get. My personal standard is whether I'd launch the game again or not. And... I might. Maybe. To finish the math adventure game, if I had nothing else to do with myself, and I wanted to pat myself on the brain at how quickly I can do mental arithmetic. So... indifference, on the whole? How do you reflect indifference with a thumbs up or down? So let's conclude, then: This game aspires to mediocrity. It's weird in that some of it contains actual, technical improvements. If I gave the original a 51%, this one gets 49.9%. It got pity-rounded to a pass. Buy it on a deep sale. Join me in feeling whelmed, neither over nor under. * This isn't to say the words aren't there. I just can't be bothered. Show up when I'm streaming or buy me a pint or something, and I'll give you all the inky words you could possibly eat. I am so whelmed I haven't even linked the requisite info here, you'll have to find it in my profile.
