In Fairyland Solitaire immerse yourself in a magical world and save the fairies from the clutches of the goblins.
Gameplay Settings
This game has a lot to offer in terms of settings for a solitaire game. Card back & front designs, lots of creative cursor designs, the abilities to enable or disable the mini games, audio controls, sound effects and the ability to disable background effects. The ability to customize what type of card play you wish is a nice option, (Up, Down, Make 14 or Match 2). Or if you like a selection of all three card play options you can choose Random Game Mode to mix it up. Each round has 10 levels per round and at the start of each round you can select difficulty and card play options. The 10th round is the “Card Battle Fight” where you charge up attacks (the longer the combo chain the more damage you do). You go into battle with 3 power ups you can use once charged. Difficulty modes include Relaxed, Casual, Normal and Hard. A tutorial can be toggled on and off as well in the start-up options menu once hitting play.
Highlights
* One unique element to this game once selecting all your game-play options is you get to pick one of 4 available fairies to play as when you start. Each fairy comes with a special buff you start the game out with like extra health at the start of battles or charge cards up 10% faster. You can change your fairy in-game as well from the Character menu at any time! * The game hosts an in-game shop (coin earned in-game) to buy power-ups. And a lot of cool power ups are available! You can only carry 5 at one time to use once assigned. * The first joker card is free every hand in all modes but hard. Once in-game, hit the plus button to open the store option to buy a joker at no charge. I waited to use mine towards the end of each hand in case I needed a card at the end. Remember you can choose one at the end before finishing the round and that wild card will still be available next hand (and you can still choose another free one)! So claim it even if you do not use it in the current hand. * As you progress you will open up mega levels on the map. These large levels allow you to rack up large combo chains and make some extra coins.
Drawbacks
* The game at later levels feels copy and paste. The layouts may change but the obstacles that block the cards are always the same. * Game difficulty (even in casual mode) starts to feel very unbalanced as you progress to later levels. It is necessary to buy power ups to combat this. Power ups while plentiful are pricey, especially the really beneficially ones. * No achievements (there are in-game achievements, just not on Steam).
The Visuals
Visually the game is colorful and magical. I enjoy the artwork of the individual fairies alongside the artwork of the bosses you meet (some goblins but also various magical forest creatures). The animations in the opening scenes are a bit rough.
Overall Experience
Overall I enjoyed the game until the later stages when grind kicked in and the levels started to feel samey and unbalanced. I would recommend this game but grab it on sale. 💖
Follow IndieGems for more reviews like this one.
This is a really well done solitaire game. It offers lots of extra fun (mini-games, hidden object scenes, card battles) and the option to NOT play any of those if you don't want to. You can choose different card backs, card faces, pointers, and a fairy character as your avatar (there are four and each one has different advantages). The game is gorgeous, there are tons of neat things to buy in the shop, and there are extra mega-card levels that award you with lots of gold. You can choose between 3 different types of solitaire and 4 different difficulty levels. Also in-game achievements. There's probably even more but I just started playing. And I know I should wait to write a review but I just love this game so darn much. If my opinion changes, so will this review. But as it stands, if you enjoy solitaire, definitely add Fairyland Solitaire to your collection.
A SURPRISINGLY ADDICTIVE SOLITAIRE GAME
I love Solitaire Games, especially when they have additional features added to the mix. Fairyland Solitaire has become one of those games where I keep saying, "Just one more level" , and 10 levels later I'm still playing! (sorry, DH, dinner will be a bit late tonight 🤣) You can play in a Relaxed, Casual, Normal, or Hard difficulty mode, but you can also choose the variety of Solitaire games you prefer, such as Higher/Lower. Match 2, or Sum of 14...or opt for all three by choosing the Random Mode! There are 20 Achievements to earn in-game only. (no Steam Achievements). Before each new Chapter, you will play a Hidden Object Scene to find 10 Cards, 10 Fish, 10 Butterflies, 10 Potions, 10 Pouches, etc. Some of these objects are very well-blended into the scenery, making them quite challenging! There are 12 Card Graphics, 3 Card Fonts, and 8 Custom Cursors available, You will also choose from 4 Fairy Avatars. After completing 10 levels in a chapter, your fairy will battle an ogre in a round of Solitaire where you choose to Attack or Heal once these abilities are charged. I think this was a missed opportunity because each of the Fairy Avatars could have had various abilities during these battles. As you progress, Obstacle Cards are added to make it a bit more challenging with Webs that require uncovering the Sword Card, Locks that require a Key Card, Fog Covered Cards that require you to play that card twice, or Mystical Fire Cards that require an Enchanted Potion Card. You will Earn Number-Specific Wild Cards to use at your discretion, Wild Cards have to be used when they are drawn from the deck. Mini-game Cards appear randomly in the Deck. These are quick and easy games, such as a Match 3 game, a hand of Blackjack with the dealer, a Memory Match (select 2 cards to flip at a time to make matches of identical images), Placing square tiles to recreate the image, a shell & cup variation where you follow and select the diamond card after the cards shuffle, a Slot Machine variation where you try to align 3 identical symbols (you can hold 2 slots & nudge a slot down a bit) and my favorite game where you guess if the next card is Higher or Lower (4 cards to guess in total) If you don't want to play the mini-games, you can immediately skip them without penalty. The graphics are great and it's a very relaxing Solitaire game that progresses in difficulty at a nice pace. I have been playing in the Normal Mode with Random solitaire variations. The Sum 14 variation is probably the most difficult, and the Match 2 variation is the easiest, but the random mode broke up the monotony. Fairyland Solitaire has surprised me, I wasn't expecting it to be so addictive...but then again, The Revills Games have always been top-notch games and never disappoint! Really nice casual card game with many many minigames to spice up the gameplay. Art style is pretty nice and I love the story-driven nature of the game. Card battles are awesome!
Good game mechanics, and graphics. Like the mini games.
