Mixes several genres seamlessly. First person/turn-based shooter with rogue elements. Only a few minutes into it, but this is going somewhere great.
Turn based, Dungeon Master type of Contra game......wow. It actually works though, I like it.
SOMEONE IN MY CHAT SAID "I didnt know this game was a shooter game! dumpy was too distracting" and guess what! I AGREEE! Need more angles of dumpy! HIGHLY RECOMMEND! game is too hard to handle so much cheeks! WE NEED A ZOOM IN FEATURE!
I bought this game cause I saw it was from the same developer as Dungeonmans. I liked that game, and the concept of this game seemed interesting. I bought it and played it for a bit. Beating level 1 and 2. I had a blast no bugs, besides some minor ones that was fixed doing a save and reload. My main issue was getting to level 3. I legitimately could not enter level 3 without some sort of issue or crash that prevented the game being played. I told the dev, and bam a day or 2 after it was fixed. The dev of this game is really nice, and tries to fix any bug that is reported.
Scratches a very specific and niche itch, but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ scratches it hard. 10/10 and its only as of this review two days old in Early Access. Absolutely worth the price already.
If you've ever wished your turn-based dungeon crawler could use more guns and explosions: EotC is here to scratch that itch! Use the new, innovative 'Clicks-to-Bullets' conversion technology to spread freedom and fight back against nonspecific international terrorism!
An interesting take on the turn based 3rd person shooter genre. I like that the main character is cheeked up, gives me something to look at while absolutely getting demolished by bullets. I like the concept of this game and am surprised there are not more turn based shooter games.
Eye of the Commando is marketed as "classic turn based dungeon crawling with an 80's action movie twist," and while that is all accurate, I instead pitch it to you as a turn-based tactical shooter where you can dodge the enemy projectiles but your moves are instant. The game incorporates elements from the dungeon crawler genre... from 80's action films... and from arcade video games. That last part is important. There's a freeway of nostalgia running through this game with the art, design, and music which makes EotC feel familiar to me in a positive way even though it is a unique experience for me. I didn't just explore a dungeon here. I explored a concept. And I'm absolutely willing to try more thirst-person action.
As others have noted, this is turn-based Contra, and it is amazing. What at first may seem like a fairly simplistic game is actually much more complex, with lots of interesting mechanics to spice up the gameplay. For example, when enemies shoot at you, the projectiles take a few turns to travel to you, so you have to manage your movement to avoid multiple projectiles from multiple shooters. A very clever turn-based take on shooters with an 80s action movie vibe. Highly recommended.
Excellent game. dev saved the all the best level tricks for last. one of those knock out a run in an hour games
