__________________________________________________ A truly great game. At first glance, the battles and tactical combat seem to take center stage, and the latter is genuinely a lot of fun and offers plenty of possibilities. The large-scale battles you fight to conquer territories, however, do get a bit tedious after a while. But the real heroes of the game are the player character and their friends. Things start off a bit slow, but by the finale, I had grown so attached to all my companions—with all their different personalities—that I wanted to save every single one of them and hoped for a happy ending for everyone. What makes this game special is that decisions have consequences. As the game nears its conclusion, there are moments that bring you to tears because all your companions have become so dear to you, and some decisions really hurt. Ultimately, this is precisely why Expeditions: Rome felt much more like a role-playing game to me than a strategy game. On top of that, there’s fantastic German voice acting for all the characters involved in the many quests. This makes the role-playing experience even better and is what made the game nearly perfect for me.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 23 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 14 places towards #1, and the 2,420 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

This game is a buggy mess. I really like it, but at this point it already had two gamebreaking bugs. One where the game crashed, when I picked up a quest item (a bug that was fixable) and one, where the camera was locked in place. You can fix this bug, by reloading older saves, hoping that they are not bugged as well. For me that meant, that I had to replay two missions I only completed by the skin of my teeth. Motivation gone. If you release a buggy mess, at least have the courtesy to patch the bugs, your community tells you about and don't post smug "we will look into it" comments in forums.
Open Letter to the Developers || Topic: Warehouse Tutorial To the Development Team, I am writing this not just as a player, but as someone who wanted to enjoy your work, loves tactical games and especially the time period your game is in. However, the opening missions of Expeditions: Rome—specifically the Warehouse encounter on Lesbos—represent some of the most poorly tuned, mathematically hostile "tutorial" design in the modern CRPG genre. 1. The Illusion of Choice vs. Mathematical Certainty You present the player with a cover system that, at Level 1, is effectively a trap. Against elevated archers with high-ground bonuses, "Partial Cover" is a death sentence. By depriving the player of any healing, tactical items, or viable ranged counters, you turn a tactical encounter into a coin-flip where the AI holds all the weighted dice. 2. The "Front-Loaded" Difficulty Wall A tutorial should teach mechanics through empowerment, not through a brutal gear-check before the player even has gear. Forcing a Level 1 party into a crossfire against "omniscient" snipers isn't "hardcore"—it’s a failure to understand player onboarding. You are punishing returning and new players alike for not already knowing the exploits required to bypass your broken accuracy scaling. 3. Respecting Player Time Difficulty should be a curve, not a vertical cliff face at the five-minute mark. Until the early-game accuracy and action economy are patched to reflect the actual tools available to a Level 1 party, Expeditions: Rome remains a brilliant game buried under an inexcusably "utter ♥♥♥♥" introduction. Now that I got this out of my system, I am doing something productive and more fulfilling with my life - like counting the cat turds my feline buddies left me in their litterbox overnight. At least my cats are honest about leaving me a pile of ♥♥♥♥.
There are several reasons. The plot is full of holes and completely absurd choices. E.g. you kill a guy in the first act, but they magically show up in the second act. You're forced into self-mutilation or human sacrifice for no good reason at all. The legion battles are extremely boring, tedious, and pointless. Inconsistencies in the class design: E.g. all assassin type characters in the game are of the archer type class, but the assassin skill tree is under the skirmisher type class.

An enthralling tale of conquest, intrigue, love and duty. This takes the CRPG genre out of the typical fantasy and sci-fi setting into a fascinating alternate history of Rome. Tactically command your spec-ops group of gladiators, soldiers and spies to unravel a conspiracy that threatens the Republic. Strategically manage and lead your legion into combat across the Roman world. Navigate the back-stabbing (literally) world of the Roman Senate to achieve your own political ascension. Great writing with FULLY-voiced dialogue, excellent combat and strategy, with light management sim qualities. The developers have managed to grow their Expeditions series into this pinnacle of the genre. Criminally underrated game.
