I'm here because of the Civvie review. Great game.
Probably my favorite Metroid-like yet, it's designed with razor-sharp precision and has very fun combat. Although the endgame was so tough I lowered the difficulty to Normal since Hell definitely fits the billing.
Great Metroidvania (1993 Metroid Prime)!
Works perfectly on steam deck so far. Love the inspired art.
Hard game to recommend to everybody. I picked this up on a whim because I saw it in a TechDweeb video, but I didn't really like it. There were a lot of things I did like about it, but once I got even the slightest bit of punishing set back (died and lost like 8 minutes of play time), that was it for me. I don't have the time to play games like this these days. It wasn't even that crazy of a set back, but I just didn't like it enough to keep going after that. The colors and art style are phenominal. Absolutely recommend to any boomer shooter fans out there. I really enjoyed the slide mechanic where you can slide into your enemies to stun them. It's a very short stun, but it was so helpful that I found I used it CONSTANTLY. Love that mechanic!
Mecha eye thing, one of the most annoying bosses I've faced. Amazing game.
This game is great and it really surprised me. This game definitely takes more inspiration from Metroid and similar games than classic boomer shooters. It has a nice simple upgrade path that expands your simple options. The combat is pretty simple but still challenging and creates tension between save points. My main criticisms revolve around the map. While I still very much enjoyed exploring and found the secrets rewarding to find, there were still some things I felt very flawed. First was the abundance of one way doors. Nothing is more annoying than to be locked down a pathway when I still wanted to explore more of the area(especially with the hooks that you can't recall). Then there is the fact that I don't think areas of a floor do enough to distinguish themselves from other areas. My method of finding anything was to basically run down every passage until I found something. Another issue was the map that you could pull up had a battery. I understand that the developers didn't want the player to be checking the map every second but ultimately I ended up just not using it and banging my head against the wall until I found where to go. There is an option to turn off the battery but I was too stubborn to disable it. I also felt the map itself didn't really tell you anything about the level due to it just being a bunch of squares all colored the same way. Ultimately I still very much enjoyed this game and would be interested in future projects from this dev.
This game gives nightmare fuel, especially the wasps, DEAR GOODNESS, THE WASPS IN THIS GAME... but its still good...
