Quirky and funny, but overall a poorly-balanced and frustrating roguelike.
It's a cute little roguelite, worth the price
It is really detailed and fun to play as there are endless possible combos and outcomes. It is also a really cute design and customizable when you unlock the options.
I saw Game Grumps played the demo to this and thought, I could do better. Turns out, it is as difficult as it looks. But the gameplay is so fun! Trying to see what combinations of evolutions or mutations you can get combined with how fast you can level up makes this so re-playable. Not to mention the challenges and achievements. If you like roguelites, this is a gem.
Everything may be crab now, but hopefully it gets better! But without joking, barely anything is crab in the game. The game mode is an eternal push to higher difficulty through a repetitive gameplay loop that starts and ends always at the same location. The "builds" always and up with a messy bloaty character that looks closer to an eldritch abomination, if you're fine with your character looking like a shapeless blob each playthrough then you're in luck. there is no such thing as character editing so what you get is what you get. You won't see how the creature looks like before selecting an upgrade. Which is as intended because like I said before, the game is an eternal push to higher difficulty through a repetitive gameplay loop that starts and ends always at the same location. All games take 30 mins or shorter, that's all the time you get, after that you have to start again.
For the price, it's a decent time, you can definitely get 10+ hours out of it if you try and complete all the primary modes and challenges. The biggest weakness is definitely how similar every run is. The environments are always same, you'll fight the same small handful of enemies and if you get a build you like you'll probably choose the same handful of evolutions. This game certainly has potential though, if the devs continue updating and adding more content. Looking forward to where this game is at in a year from now.
Unfortunately, this still needs a little time in the oven. I'm going to "recommend" it cus it's pretty cheap but I am disappointed. It's more potential than substance. For example, at first the evolution of the enemies felt random and interesting and varied, but after an hour, I think I saw everything that the enemies have to offer. The evolutions are similar, perhaps you unlock far more but right now the start of the game is very slow and there only seem to be two or three general styles of play to work towards from the starting options. It's also a bit hard to see what's going on sometimes, I've died to enemies I didn't notice at least twice. The music is also rough, I had to turn it off... I felt like I was on a children's show about evolution, not becoming a fascinating and deadly beast. Overall, I would say, on sale? It's worth checking out. You might enjoy it more. I'll probably play a bit more but I don't love it. If the start was quicker, if the whole game had like a 2x speed mode honestly, could help but... grinding up the same couple styles of play over a slow start just to get bitten by a tiny thing you didn't notice and have to start over isn't great. Art is cute and what enemies are there are interesting, some of the evolutions produce very fun looking creatures, like I said... lots of potential. It could be a great experience with a little more variety and less grinding for basic starting stuff.
I like that hardly anything are crab but everything are crab. 10/10
Just not enough content . Can't see anyone putting a lot of hours into this one, there are better ones out there. Not bad, just not enough stuff and No SAVE feature at all. Ouch.
Very fun roguelite, games are quick and builds become quite varied as you unlock more ability drops. My only point of criticism is that the enemies become a bit repetitive, but otherwise I keep going back to this game nearly every night!
