Reviews
As someone who played EverSpace 1, I have to say, this one got rid of all the annoying elements in the first game and made all the good elements even better. In the first game, its rogue-like linear game play, no going back to previously explored location, jumping is limited by fuel so you have to stop and look for fuel or risk damaging your ship. Now, since the game is open world, you can go as you please, leave whenever you want and come back as many times as you wish. No more okkar jumping in after you stay in an area for too long, pressuring you to rush through your stay and exploration. The game is now a lot more chill, in fact, if you rush through the area, you are going to miss out a lot of hidden stash. But then you can always come back later so really the pace is entirely up to you. To me personally, the most annoying feature in the first game was jump suppression, especially when there is thick fog and/or presence of mother ship. All of these are removed. Jump suppression now only exist as story element. Thick fog only exist in a rare few locations that you can skip or ignore. Mother ship exist as bonus level boss, not a forced encounter. Natural disasters like solar flare, location exist near a sun causing overheat etc are all gone. In this game, they expand on the diversity of ship customization, 9 ships with different specialty. Player can switch between ships with no buy sell penalty, encouraging player to try and experiment with different play style or strategy. All in all, the game is nearly perfect. The one thing that annoys me is sometimes they put mini puzzle in main quest, and those puzzles need patience to solve. But if you are stuck you can always look up solutions online. Dev is kind enough to give hints in look for X kind of quest, and very importantly, there is never jump scare. There are times the scene is rather unsettling, maybe its just me, but silent dark cave creeps me out. Even at places like that, there is never jump scare, if enemy appear, there is always little sound that hints you something is nearby or coming, they never appear out of no where. I truly appreciate that. TL;DR. The game is very good, if you are not sure, just try out the demo.
For a space sim its OK, Id say 7/10. Solid graphics and gameplay, decent story although it starts very slow. I was hoping to something like Freelancer or Tachion from the good ol days but this game is way more arcadey. Not a waste of time but also not a game I will miss in any way shape or form.
the flying around and combat feels really good with one caveat, you dont feel the size of the ship at all. feels like the cockpit is all that matters. dogfighting feels really good, quite punishing at times. the biggest issue is the lack of variety. with there being only 10 weapons in the game you quickly just stick to the same 2-3 weapons since they all have archtypes they cover. also enemy types are lacking,. if Everspace 3 gets a huge increase on the variety and everything else being the exact same i'll be happy. it feels a lot better than the first game with it being a openworldy space explore game now. performancewise its pretty decent. with my setup i was around 70 fps at 3440x1440
Ein tolles Spiel, mit gutem Humor...
this game is really easy to get in to and a ton of fun, if you want a more combat focused space exploration game this is a good value when its on sale.
