About
Almost five hundred years of history unfold before you in Europa Universalis V, the latest version of one of the greatest strategy games of all time. Guide the destiny of any of hundreds of nations and societies in a simulated living world of unparalleled depth and complexity.
Europa Universalis V builds on the franchise’s core concept of developing and advancing nations from around a deeply researched historical world, adding more detailed diplomacy, a more sophisticated economic model, a revised military system and greater logistical depth that will challenge even the most experienced strategy gamers.

RULE a land of your choosing. Hundreds of nations are yours to command, as you guide the destiny of millions of people through the late Middle Ages up to the Age of Revolution - from the mighty Yuán Dynasty to the city-states of Italy, from the warring clans of feudal Japan to the Pope himself.
DECIDE which course your nation will take. Historical events and situations await as you chart a unique path through a new history written by your decisions. Experience The Hundred Years’ War, the Protestant Reformation, the collapse of old dynasties and rise of new ones.
EXPLORE alternate histories as you shape the world to meet your ambitions. What if England succeeded in pressing its continental claims? What if China pursued an overseas empire? What if Mongol supremacy in Russia persisted? Every action opens the possibility for an original history.

IMPOSE domestic peace in a divided realm. Keep your nation’s factions in line as Estates jockey for power in your nation. Offer privileges to one group of citizens while you limit the power of another, all in the service of keeping your population under control.
NEGOTIATE your way through an uneasy peace. Use diplomacy to entrench your dynasty across realms or build an invincible alliance. But remember that nations have no permanent friends - only permanent interests; so use your ambassadors carefully. Exact favors from friends, send threats to enemies, and keep an eye on everyone in-between.
CONQUER new lands to expand your borders. Wage War on those who impede your ambition in a completely new Europa Universalis military system. Start in the age of levies and mercenaries and, through social development, evolve to vast standing armies and impenetrable fortresses. Choose skilled commanders to oversee both land and naval forces.

BUILD a strong economic infrastructure in the most detailed trade system yet seen in a Europa Universalis game. Dozens of goods and crops are available for production and trade on a map filled with new riches to discover. Invest in feeding a growing population or trade your surplus to less bountiful societies.
MOLD your society to meet the historical moment. Choose your societal values, with new options opening as the ages move on. Centralize power at court or share it with your nobles. Pursue a tolerant policy for all faiths or condemn heretics. Emphasize massed armies or an elite cadre of quality soldiers.
GOVERN a nation composed of many cultures and faiths in a detailed simulation of the past. For the first time in Europa Universalis, populations are represented on the map in detail, so provinces may be divided by religion or culture. Your decisions will determine how these populations will fare under your leadership.

PREVAIL in the greatest strategic challenges of the past. Test your expertise in grand strategic planning on a worldscape larger and more detailed than seen in any previous Paradox Interactive game. Challenge yourself to outdo the most famous rulers of the past, eclipsing their grand accomplishments and building your own vision of a richly detailed globe.

can't care to write a review for slop.
I really really want to like this game, but sadly at this moment it feels like slop. The UI is absolute garbage, compare that to a game like vic 3 or eu 4, where the UI is just so elegant and pleasant to look at. Instead in EU V you are BOMBARDED with tons of pop ups (most of them being irrelevant). VIC 3 had the same problem but they turned it around, so maybe there is hope? I like deep and complex mechanics when, but currently they all feel really unpolished and generic. The idea of minmaxing every building is completely ahistorical and illogical. Trade in my opinion should be more organic, like in Vic 3, where you don't have to set up every trade route by yourself (there were merchants for some reason right???). Warfare is typical PDX fashion so i'll not complain as much but it's also not great past 1500s. Overall the feeling i get with EU5 is not great. Currently the game is really overwhelming, but not in the great sens of overwhelming, where you feel like you can learn it... Instead it feels like you're being spammed with useless information all the time, and you have to filter out what is important. And when you filter out what is important you are basically left with clicking a single button every now and then to upgrade or build a building. Also don't even get me started with translation. I know that it's not the most important thing for the game but for god's sake WHY EVEN ENABLE IT WHEN IT'S JUST COMPLETE AND UTTER AI SLOP?!?! I would be very happy to change this review to positive once the game is FINISHED.
Alpha build Grade-A Premium garbage If you want this game to have any kind of consistency, fun, or immersion you need to enable the debug mode so you can fix all of the shortcomings the incompetent developers will never be able to fix themselves. Can't disinherit a useless heir? Kill him with console commands. Load up a game and all of a sudden your positive income has gone negative for no apparent reason? Console commands to reverse the debt you should never have had. Need a royal marriage but either your or the target country's heir is inexplicably a courtier in a foreign court? ♥♥♥♥ you then. That person isn't a member of the Kyiv royal family anymore apparently, they're in Smolensk now. Want the content that should have been launched with the game (Italian Wars, Guelphs v Ghibbs, Brandenburg Decline, Rise of Ottomans, Byzantine/Rise of Phoenix), that should have worked from the very beginning, but is now not only behind a paywall but also is on the 'experimental' (cough*SUCKER*) branch? ♥♥♥♥ you yet again. I know Paradox is a greedy blood-sucking parasite, but if I wanted to be a beta tester (♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ generous since this ♥♥♥♥ is alpha), I would apply for a paid position, not pay money to be a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ test monkey. tldr; I have spent an equal amount of time having to save-scum, console command, and artificially ♥♥♥♥ my way out of this game's ♥♥♥♥♥♥ limitations as I have actually playing the game. Wait a good year/decade before this game is 'finished'
游戏挺好玩的,就是玩起来非常卡,关键是我的配置可不低啊。Good game, however, very laggy...
Wait until more content outside of Europe/Mediterranean comes out.
Its meh. Game's 8 months old and is pretty much in the same sorry state that it was on release. I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt to fix the game post-release, since the core mechanics are actually genuinely really good, but my patience has run out. I suspect something changed in the development team (actual experienced developers either moved on to other games, or moved on from Paradox), or theres perhaps some kind of a weird public company shareholder-incentives involved, but this game is not really getting better. At best it's 1 step forward, 2 steps back, while the glaring issues remain untouched. Also how is that still possible that 8 months later whole saves are still getting borked by crashes? Could they not fable their code or something?
Am not impressed due to the following issue. The Hague, Den Haag, des Gravenshage (real name) is not and has never been the Capital of the Netherlands, Amsterdam always has been. This has been a thorn in my eye since EU IV, yet still no one bothered to change it for V, pretty poor and unbelievable too if you ask me, how on Earth is this still not fixed!!! The Hague was created as a seat of Government, which comes from the tradition of that location being a spot for garherings of various factions. Overtime this Hague grew out to be a city holding the seat of Government (yet, not as a Country Capital city) So, one more time Paradox, the Hague, seat of Government, Amsterdam, CAPITAL City! Holland exists of two parts (created in 1840), North and South, the Capital of the Southern part is the Hague, yet the capital of the North is Haarlem. However, the Capital city of the Netherlands (as now) is Amsterdam and has been since 1808, we did not really have a Capital before that. The capital of the Netherlands has been Amsterdam since 1808. Previously, the Netherlands had no official capital It was not until 1983 that Amsterdam's status as capital was enshrined in the Constitution . The capital of a country is usually the city where the parliament is located and the head of state lives. The Netherlands is one of the rare exceptions to this. Anyway, game looks great!
I think Paradox is really only surviving because they have a near-monopoly over grand strategy games. The core of the game is fine. It's just good enough for me to try and make it work. All of the elements of a fantastic game exist. But it's so hard to justify playing eu5 when eu4 exists. This game simply isn't as good, and it was released long before it had any chance to compete. There's a lot of friction between the game as a "game" and the game as a simulation of history. There's a lot of friction in the UI, with things being buried behind multiple menus. Things that eu4 puts front and center. I hope it gets there one day.
