About
Almost five hundred years of history unfold before you in Europa Universalis V, the latest version of one of the greatest strategy games of all time. Guide the destiny of any of hundreds of nations and societies in a simulated living world of unparalleled depth and complexity.
Europa Universalis V builds on the franchise’s core concept of developing and advancing nations from around a deeply researched historical world, adding more detailed diplomacy, a more sophisticated economic model, a revised military system and greater logistical depth that will challenge even the most experienced strategy gamers.

RULE a land of your choosing. Hundreds of nations are yours to command, as you guide the destiny of millions of people through the late Middle Ages up to the Age of Revolution - from the mighty Yuán Dynasty to the city-states of Italy, from the warring clans of feudal Japan to the Pope himself.
DECIDE which course your nation will take. Historical events and situations await as you chart a unique path through a new history written by your decisions. Experience The Hundred Years’ War, the Protestant Reformation, the collapse of old dynasties and rise of new ones.
EXPLORE alternate histories as you shape the world to meet your ambitions. What if England succeeded in pressing its continental claims? What if China pursued an overseas empire? What if Mongol supremacy in Russia persisted? Every action opens the possibility for an original history.

IMPOSE domestic peace in a divided realm. Keep your nation’s factions in line as Estates jockey for power in your nation. Offer privileges to one group of citizens while you limit the power of another, all in the service of keeping your population under control.
NEGOTIATE your way through an uneasy peace. Use diplomacy to entrench your dynasty across realms or build an invincible alliance. But remember that nations have no permanent friends - only permanent interests; so use your ambassadors carefully. Exact favors from friends, send threats to enemies, and keep an eye on everyone in-between.
CONQUER new lands to expand your borders. Wage War on those who impede your ambition in a completely new Europa Universalis military system. Start in the age of levies and mercenaries and, through social development, evolve to vast standing armies and impenetrable fortresses. Choose skilled commanders to oversee both land and naval forces.

BUILD a strong economic infrastructure in the most detailed trade system yet seen in a Europa Universalis game. Dozens of goods and crops are available for production and trade on a map filled with new riches to discover. Invest in feeding a growing population or trade your surplus to less bountiful societies.
MOLD your society to meet the historical moment. Choose your societal values, with new options opening as the ages move on. Centralize power at court or share it with your nobles. Pursue a tolerant policy for all faiths or condemn heretics. Emphasize massed armies or an elite cadre of quality soldiers.
GOVERN a nation composed of many cultures and faiths in a detailed simulation of the past. For the first time in Europa Universalis, populations are represented on the map in detail, so provinces may be divided by religion or culture. Your decisions will determine how these populations will fare under your leadership.

PREVAIL in the greatest strategic challenges of the past. Test your expertise in grand strategic planning on a worldscape larger and more detailed than seen in any previous Paradox Interactive game. Challenge yourself to outdo the most famous rulers of the past, eclipsing their grand accomplishments and building your own vision of a richly detailed globe.

This game misses what was fun about EU4 to me. It sacrifices the fun and historical flavor for tedious micromanagement.
This game as it currently stands strikes me not so much as a grand strategy game, but an interactive archaeological experience where players are invited to excavate traces of functioning mechanics among the ruined wreckage of a once great game franchise. No wonder I, who studied ancient history and archaeology for many years in college, became so masochistically addicted to digging this steaming pile of debris and hoping to find something, anything genuinely wonderous - which I still believe exist even underneath the strata of sunken promises that fill the naked eye. Welp, I guess we've no option but to keep digging like proper archaeologists do; and dear Paradox, you owe us for all our sweat and sacrifice under the sun.
TLDR: If you don't have an external monitor, the game is UNPLAYABLE. Need glasses? Even moreso. Honestly? The game is such a convoluted mess that it is an absolute BI*CH to even WANT to learn. God does it have so much potential, but fu**ing hell is it an absolute ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hell to even attempt to play as someone that doesn't have 16 hours a day to learn it, and the learning curve truly isn't even my main complaint. It is the fact that to even TRY to learn this game you need to navigate 5000 different menus and submenus, as well as the wiki and youtube, while also having zero access to the main feature: THE MAP; because they are, again, trying to teach you everything through submenus and text. Genuinely, F**k ME, it took me like 2 days of playing 6 hours to at least understand EU4 when I was about 13. This ♥♥♥♥? Fu*ck*in* christ, you can't even use the 'esc' key to move back in a menu half the time. Even though I've played lots of EU4, I never expected EU5 to be easy to learn due to how complex they wanted the gameplay to become... I followed the whoooole development roadmap. But guess what? their biggest ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ issue is teaching the player how to learn, and giving them a good USER EXPERIENCE. I absolutely abhor the 'BIG BECAUSE BIG' UI that they apparently have to use for every single game now that they changed engine. Like, can't you make the MAPS---which are literally the center of the game--- the main thing I can see on my screen? I'm on a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ 14-inch laptop and need glasses. But guess what? When you try their ♥♥♥♥-ass UI scaling to 110%, ♥♥♥♥ gets even more obscured than on their 100%. So... from being able to see like 5% of the screen while playing, now you get 4%. And guess what? There is still so many useless descriptions on-screen that you can't even make sense of it all unless you waste 20 minutes per 3 in-game months just to make sense of what the fu*k is supposedly going on. PARADOX TINTO, y'all really need to think about the current-end-user for a little bit and not just your but-what-about-in-three-years(?) vision you apparently seem to have for the game. I ain't buying a single ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ DLC of yours again---even though I have all of them for EU4 (because IT was FUNCTIONAL GAME) until you, yourselves, make something that works FOR THE USER. And, genuinely, exaggeration aside and to truly drive it home, once your tool-tips upon tool-tips are done popping up, who in the ♥♥♥♥ ever asked for a screen that is 3/4ths letters? Aren't you people embarrassed for how unplayable this is? Your entire franchise is built upon maps for f*c*s sakes. Y'all were more than disappointing, but even seem to be actively hostile to your core community. Addendum: During ym first playthrough as Castile: Even I absolutely purged all graphics on my laptop, the game does run pretty good until about the 1600s where I just got bored of the lack of flavor---don't get me wrong. It is the unplayability of your UI and game that ♥♥♥♥♥ me up the most. I have almost no issues with the sh*t amount of time it takes for a day to pass---after all, I originally played y'all's game on my parent's Mac 2011 desktop. Please, please, pretty please with sugar on top, PLEASE, Remember the end-user and maybe stop using your ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ 80 inch screens as you program your game... fu*ki*g hell. Make the UI usable.
I played for 588 hours since day one and my only suggestion to soneone looking to buy the game is: WAIT: Wait that the game is balanced and finished. Who started like me to play from Day 1 saw ups and down as patches kept coming. Frustrating, but I would still take it and be patient if the direction (and speed) would be the correct one. Unfortunately, that is not the case. While there are some improvements (mainly "forced" by the negative reviews, let's be honest here), there are 20-30-40 other things that get their balance broken at every new release. Don't get me wrong, I like the new graphic, the depth and the details compared to EU4, but the game feels to me highly unplayable as the balancing is out of the window. EU4 had challenges and you knew staring a new game that some countries were more challenging, however here feels like they took the "historical" part of the game and just ignored it. Examples (for who is a bit more used to EU games): France has 4-5x the troops of EVERY OTHER nation after a couple of years in the game and none can stop them as they snowball way too early for anyone to counter them, unless you spend your whole game focused only on that task. Pretty restrictive for a sandbox game, isn't it? And don't get me started on Mercs, where the AI just spawns Mercs armies that are 6k worth of gold being a 3 location country at year 1410. I am sure, down the road, this is going to be a great game. But now is not and clearly it has been released way too early without proper balancing. If you look at PDX forums, lot of feedback go in the same direction, but most of them are still not adressed and most of the effort is spent on Economy tweaks.
Tedious and endless micromanaging
