I would say Esperia is a pretty good game overall. It hits all the right notes for a tactical RPG. I would say it's best points are the maps and story and the elements that need some touch ups are the balance (specifically the units you get as the promoted units are way better than the others and might need a slight nerf) and some of the UI elements. Ex. If you use Nina's Undead ability it won't let you cancel it, only giving you the option to skip the animation.
A Fire Emblem like, quite competent at that. The story is fine, so are the characters, though at times the writing is kinda weak, it is consistent enough. About the gameplay, is interesting enough and I actually liked the skills you can play around, but it is a shame that they are mostly linked to the support system, because it felt kinda esoteric to play around, you don´t know who can support with who until it happens, and it levels quite slowly, and secret classes and side quests are attached to playing with the supports system, honestly it should be more accesible somehow. There are extra chapters if you meet certain requirements in the previous map, but there is little info or indication of what you need to do, so I missed most of them. There are certain choices in the story, which was nice and I assume differ a little bit the playthrough. The art is a bit rough with varying quality but mostly consistent, which is good enough, more so when nowadays some other titles blatanly use AI generated "art", I always appreciate human craft over that. If you like a mostly hardcore and difficult (Too harsh in hard to be honest, if it wasn´t for the saving at any time model it uses) tactics game, and go knowing it is constrained by the SRPG Studio and the quality expected from an indie title, it provides more than enough. And just as a note, it has an anime-like opening which was funnily surprising to see and charming on his own way.
Really enjoyed this one. Has that old school fire emblem I love. Story is actually real good! I would love to see this continue with a 2nd game.
I really like this game. (Sorry for the broken english) I have played many games from the Fire Emblem series (and other similar games) since I was a child but for some time now I have been noticing how, although I enjoyed the gameplay, it was increasingly difficult for me to be invested in the narrative and the characters. The main plots feels formulaic, the main characters tend not to have much of a personality, and most of the supporting cast doesn't add much to the overall narrative beyond their archetipe, so I'm rarely interested in unlocking their bonds. Esperia has good gameplay while narratively surpasses most of the FE games by having a heavy component of visual novel (wich allows for extended conversations). It has been the first time in a game of this kind that I have been interested in actively unlocking the bonds (After about 80 hours I have unlocked around half of them) since I was interested in the interactions between the characters and the different things I discovered about them. Another aspect I appreciated is that the so-called "adult themes" were not avoided in both the bonds and the main plot. I don't remember the last time in a FE game were adult characters openly talked about sex without sex itself being central to their archetype (I think the only time was in "Genealogy of a Holy War"). I would appreciate if the option to unlock all conversations was given in the "extra" section after you have completed the game. Having to replay levels becomes somehow tiresome by the 4 or 5 run. I had some minor bugs but nothing game-breaking. Thank you very much for this game.
Very fun srpg, if you like Fire Emblem you will surely like this game. Story character and music are all good too.
Love the game!
Awesome game! If you like Fire Emblem style, give the demo a try.
Will be a while before I can play this fully, but it's clear this game was made with love. Music and art are great, the first battle on hard shows a lot of thought on enemy composition and map creation. Looking forward to playing through!
After playing many 'Fire Emblem-like' games, I can confidently say this one has the most mature and taboo story I've ever seen in the genre. (Not that Fire Emblem games usually bother with particularly adult narratives.) Cruelty, sadism, and hints of non-consensual intimate relationships... Maybe I'm just a weirdo for enjoying those dark themes and storylines.
TLDR: Esperia is a fun game! If you're a fan of SRPGs I encourage you to check it out. Things I liked: • The support system has lots of potential for making units broken. When two characters get a B support, they exchange one skill. • The story was alright. It's nothing super surprising, but can get pretty emotional at later parts. The characters themselves are neatly written; I like how they'll sometimes appear past their intro chapters. • The gameplay variety is very nice. There's varying objectives in there, and some maps have side objectives to them. • I like that class progression is linear. When playing the newer FE's, for example, it can sometimes get overwhelming to have a bunch of different class options to consider. Here, the biggest choices are just, who do you want to use. • Of what I saw, the supports were really nice! They add a lot of details to the characters that you wouldn't see otherwise. Things I didn't like: • Money economy is pretty tight. It's kinda nice in terms of difficulty, but I felt like there wasn't much room to experiment with the more expensive charms, since promoting costs quite a bit of gold. • It was pretty hard to get supports unless I was specifically placing the units nearby each other. though i think the updates have added some new maps to help with that. • The cutscene's music is fine, but the map music is pretty repetitive. Crucial chapters / sidequests have different music, but the majority of the main chapters have the same map theme. It's a catchy song lol, but would've been nice to have a second one at the halfway mark Despite that though, I totally recommend it. There's a demo you could try out too
