For context, I’m an escape room designer, and I love puzzles. I’ve played in over 50 escape rooms across America and have designed dozens more. With that experience in mind, this game just doesn’t do puzzles justice.
Puzzle Design Issues
The overall concept is great, and the interaction between VR and mobile is genuinely well executed. However, the puzzles themselves felt repetitive and often poorly explained. Most of the time I had to look up the answers, and even then I still didn’t fully understand what the game was trying to tell me. They end up feeling too complex to be fun.
Technical Problems
Even in the opening scene, there were far too many game-breaking bugs. The game refused to download on mobile, failed to connect repeatedly, and required multiple restarts of both the mobile device and PC just to get things working. Movement also had issues. Head rotation let you clip out of the play space, there was no smooth locomotion, and the play space height would randomly become way too tall or too small.
Final Thoughts
Don’t get me wrong, the game is unique and clearly has a lot of effort behind it. But the puzzles need better clarity, and these bugs really should’ve been fixed before release. I genuinely wish the devs the best of luck moving forward, but right now this game just isn’t great.
Elsewhere Electric is shaping up to be one of the most unique recent VR releases I've played. I am not normally one to play puzzle games, but the trailer captivated me and I eagerly awaited the game's release. Pairing the two devices is as easy as entering a code on the phone, and you're immediately thrown into the world where you're presented with your first puzzle. There is no tutorial holding your hand for the first few levels, but they ease into the difficulty, keeping things approachable. The parity between VR and phone was flawless, I encountered no bugs despite it being such a new game. There also seems to be a good amount of content for the price, having only gotten about 10% through after the first hour. I encourage you to give this game a try even if you don't normally play puzzle games. This is a breath of fresh air that VR gaming needed.
Really nails the escape room feeling of not knowing anything about your surroundings. After a little while we started to understand and communicate more effectively. I'm sure there's a lot more to this, but we were happy with the confusion up to this point.
This game has the same repeated puzzles and having to tell my friend to input the same code over and over is not fun. Also there is no tutorial which made the game extremely confusing. I have no idea what the story is and my friend said he was just staring at a terminal all of the time. devs, my recommendation is that you get rid of the code required for activating a camera so that people can actually see whats going on. Also randomize the codes so that we don't get the same "3 hand pizza oven" code over and over each level. Do not buy. Edit: To clarify, I made this post while my brain was a little cooked. It'd be a decently fun game but the lack of a tutorial ruined it for me and my friend, making us want to quit playing. As for when I said do not buy the game, I'd rather that people try it since refunding is possible. I'd only say its not a good idea to buy this game if the developer doesn't end fixing these issues. The main reason I said do not buy is because the game had no early access phase.
Starts off with little to no hand holding, but once you and your co-op partner start to decipher the puzzles, it's super rewarding. Runs great on my Quest 2, and the art style is awesome. I'm looking forward to playing it through with my partner on mobile!
If you enjoy having nothing resembling instructions, burning up your VR headset's batteries staring at blackness while your partner flips through pages of symbols to try to turn the lights on, and generally just mashing buttons and flipping switches in the hopes that something happens, then this is the game for you.
No tutorial, straight into unclear puzzles. Game is kinda alright but "puzzles" which will require just tell your partner same 3-4 symbols over and over is not fun. Also mechanics are not clear. Why you need to spend your "resources" to power things up? Why it is so limited and need to be refilled manualy after each level? Refund
Really interesting and unique game. First impression is "What is it? Game about just explaining symbols? What?" But this impression is wrong, when you understand how game works - it starts to be very interesting. I'm at level 12 now and I'm willing to continue.
Хорошая игра! Советую! UPD. ________________________________________ Good game! I recommend it! UPD. The game was completed in about 30 hours, + encountered a bug that does not allow you to complete it. The patch has already fixed it. On the early slope, we were stuck for a very long time, not understanding what to do. But then, when we guessed, the solution seemed extremely logical. Only 27 levels and 86% of the game's completion. For some reason, some abilities did not manifest, although we found everything on the ground. For some reason, in the game, the ending is shown only to the person with the phone, and in VR it just throws you into the main menu. This slightly blurred the final opinion, but the process of completing it was enjoyable. If someone thinks that this is just about naming symbols to each other - this is a MISTAKEN thinking.
The game is alright, but many aspects are not explained at all/well. The game is a cool concept, but they need a guide or an in-game book to help us out. Until SOMETHING comes out, I would avoid it until then.
