I've played a lot of old RPG's but my god all of the menus are awful here. UI design matters. I can't bring myself to play this more than a couple hours after years of owning it. It's like the game actively is fighting against being played. Just makes me want to play better games. I'm not intrigued enough my the vague good vs evil plot setup to power through like I did in system shock. I think your enjoyment will depend on your tolerance for opening one window> to check your character status> then equipment> by slot> then the equipped weapon> in order to look at your sword's stats. Then go back to the vendor select shop> Select weapons> Find the weapon in a long not-organized list> Select it> view its stats> decide if you want to buy based on your vague memory of the stats of each item. Having a set of 6 characters with head, foot, arm, leg, hand, and chest armor slots is fine. Having to open each slot to view each piece of equipment in order to see its stats on a separate screen is not. I'm sure I could ignore it and power through, but nothing indicates any part of this will improve.
It's a good attempt at a Wizardry clone, and I normally love all things Wizardry. Unfortunately for me it felt... I don't know. Like it had absolutely no soul to it. Very flat and tedious. All the pieces of the game were there but I felt nothing at all after a few hours of playing. The artwork / spritework is **absolutely top-notch** however. A for effort.
This game is nothing compared to Original It feels like it was made specifically for masochists It seems universally agreed upon that exp is needs boosting to make the game not feel pointlessly grindy, it has many, many points of anti QOL compared to the previous, it's a strictly linear experience with no exploration or questing, your baseline accuracy is something like 20%, you can have battles take 15 minutes and give 10% of a level in the first two dungeons

Classic dungeon crawler games for hardcore rpg turn-based fans who love challenging game. Ps. NOT recommend for casual players who weren't familiar with rpg elements from any ther games. Also this game really consume your brain and times though.
What distinguishes the Elminage series from other Wizardry-like dungeon crawlers are the expanded class options and refined party-building they bring to the table... along with the possibility to save-scum like a degenerate, because sometimes these games will just be mean and behead most of your folks before the first round of combat. Elminage Gothic is quite a bit more challenging and lengthier than Elminage Original, I'd recommend Gothic if you played through the end of Original and enjoyed it. The format here is less free-form, unlike Original you are expected to do most if not all dungeons to reach a sufficient power level to beat the main story bosses. The dungeon design is still very good with some nasty surprises, like spinners in dark rooms, but I thought there were too many important secret doors that you could simply miss and end up frustrated without an online guide to steer you. I also felt like Gothic took longer to "take off" in the early game than Original did, it felt kinda sluggish until you finish the first batch of dungeons. Because of these little things, I feel Original is the better game of the two, but both Elminages on Steam are top-tier gridders and I recommend them.
Gave me a crippling fear of opening doors, 10/10 Elminage Gothic is Wizardry at arguably its most brutal. Every dungeon is more vicious than the last, and there are a good number of dungeons here, even more in postgame. Some of them, like
Igdra Underground Church, Uhlm Zakir Hall, and Soldier of the Giant Gods
are pure hell; you’ll come out of them exhausted, even somewhat changed as a player. There’s no dopamine rush here, only relief that you’ve survived to the end. Visually, the dungeons are stark—little more than a couple textures repeated endlessly. One that I can think of changes it up after a couple floors, but then the new textures repeat for the rest of the dungeon. There’s a bit of furniture, a couple puzzles, and a few fixed events here and there, but for the most part you’ll be staring at unchanging corridors for hours. You’d be fair to call it lazy design, but I think it adds to the brutality. There’s little relief in sight, and the only thing you’re promised is more monsters. And the monsters. Oh, these monsters. They start off normal enough for a fantasy RPG: slimes and rogues and goblins and the like. But as you press further, they become more and more deranged: towering dolls, bishops in bondage gear, rocking-horse dullahans riding on scythe blades, Easter Island statues, crucified women in coffins bleeding from their eyes, massive eldritch horrors you’d never think someone would commit to paper. They are terrifying, psychotic, and absolutely beautiful. They are also varied in their attacks and abilities, so you’re constantly figuring out how to best deploy your limited resources to keep your party alive. Every new monster you encounter can give you pangs of dread: how do I handle THIS one now? This ♥♥♥♥ should not be fun, but I couldn’t put it down. More than anything I’ve played, it gives me a sense of danger; of being in places you should not be, facing things no one should face, surviving what no one should. It’s a unique experience, even among classically inspired DRPGs. If you’re the type of lunatic this appeals to, it’s worth picking up—cheap at full price, an even better deal on sale.
Jogo estilo PS1, me lembro um pouco lá de Yu-gi-oh e derivados. Não possui conquistas, fiquei jogando até fechar tempo de farm de todas cartinhas Com isso, não use essa analise para fins de compra.
My backline dragonewt alchemist ended up having a lot more HP than my frontliners. Then I went on to recreate that exact situation in a tabletop roleplaying game. Good times. That aside, I really like all the themed dungeons in this game, as well as the progressing soundtrack between floors. I can definitely recommend this game to old school RPG and dungeon crawler fans. P.S: You may stumble into me in Rosslie Ruins. I often go there to meditate, and I'm even considering moving my lair there.
