Elephantasy is a great little game! The hours I spent with it were really enjoyable, though it is very short. I do wish it explained some of its mechanics a little better, but it is well worth a purchase.
The design of the overall map and the puzzles are so smart, it feels inspired by ocarina of time and link between worlds. borrowing items here is more effective system than the one introduced in link between worlds where every combination opens part of the world. This is pretty smart, my only tiny complain is the map where it doesn't show locations of gems or stuff that I passed by awhile ago. It is not a big deal if you play the game in a single sitting but if you took longer time, you might forget where did you see stuff :) overall, this is a must have game :)
Nice puzzle metroidvania with a twist. Controls are so so but adjusting game speed makes them better. There is no combat, just using habilities, from which you can choose one at the beginning of the game and cand switch it whenever you want. As you progress you can then choose two of the habilities to have, then three, etc. This makes it cool to explore the world and see which habilities you need to reach each place. It is a short but really good game for people who like exploration and puzzle games
Chill and fun take on an adventure/metroidvania type game where you exchange gems to borrow items in order to explore. The more gems you collect, the more items you end up being able to take out at once. Really clever way to encourage exploration! It was always interesting to see what combinations of items would let me explore an area I haven't been yet, and it always made me feel clever figuring out how to get around and solve all the little puzzles. Goes without saying the graphics are super charming as well. Really good, highly recommend, loved it so much I even went for 100% once I was able to fully explore the map! Can't wait to start the sequel!
A nice, small-scale metroidvania that can easily be completed within 5 hours. No combat, with the exception of a few rather simple boss fights. With no background art, tinny diegetic music coming from a radio that you carry around, and very little environmental sound design, the game isn't quite as atmospheric as it wants to be. Sparse music & sound arrangement CAN make for an atmospheric game, but I don't think Elephantasy's execution of that is quite as strong as games like Lizard (NES) or A Short Hike. However, I recommend this game for two reasons: it's got charm in spades. The NPCs you come across are all super quaint, with dialogue that's equally so. The game is chill enough that it could very well fall under the "cozy" category - something quite rare for a metroidvania. The other thing that makes this game stand out is something I've never quite seen in this genre before: all the abilities you need to traverse the map are right there from the beginning...but you start by only being able to carry one. The more gems you collect, the more abilities you're able to wield. This forces you to problem-solve in a way that you ordinarily wouldn't in a metroidvania, and I thought that was really neat. Also, for how small the game is, the level design is quite solid and the map was fun to explore. It may not be up there in the best metroidvanias I've ever played, but it does just enough to warrant a full play through.
Fun game, I liked all the different regions and how they connect together
Really love this game! It's a smart little puzzle adventure with a cute 8-bit art style.
A short and sweet metroidvania that is meticulously crafted within it's limitations. Fun and cute all around!
