Echoing that this should be free for previous owners of SOTE, but with math: The base game is valued at $59.99 plus tax on Steam. Shadow of the Erdtree is priced at $39.99 (I realize there are bundle prices now with the shadow of the Erdtree Edition, but many Elden ring players who have been in the ring since the beginning ended up paying the full $39.99). On steam, even with the bundle, you need to pay an additional $5 for the Tarnished Edition DLC. So, the most enthusiastic and loyal fanbase for this game, who are already out $100+ dollars on this game, the people who made this game successful at launch and with the SOTE release, are paying an additional $5 dollars for what is now the full game experience. Why is this a problem? On Switch 2, the tarnished edition, which includes the base game AND Shadow of the Erdtree AND Tarnished Edition is valued at $80. As a consumer a longtime supporter of FromSoft, this makes me nervous for the future of how they value and treat their player base as well as how they design their games (ex/ whether they begin to design content around MTX and other predatory marketing strategies). As a person that has happily bought games and DLCs previously, I admittedly feel a bit slighted. This pricing implies the value of a new market of players on the switch 2 somehow exceeds the value of the preexisting players that made this game FromSoft's biggest success to date at launch. FromSoft has done so well by their players time and time again, so this feels distinctly out of character and I hope it doesn't signal a larger shift.
