Terrible. This is such an weak walking simulator with obvious assets and a horrible house layout that barely makes any sense. The walking pace is terrible, a 100 year old person with a cane can walk faster than you can in this game and the sound design is so frail and anemic. I get that this game is done by two people trying to learn the ropes and are inspired by Layers of Fear, but when you advertise that influence and also note that it took one month to finish it, it becomes a total lazy and boring effort that shouldn't even have the name Layers of Fear near it. Absolute trash and it isn't even worth the dollar I spent.
Horror Engine
That game got my attention because it is inspired by Layers of Fear, which I really love. It is short, it lacks of story, effects and horror experience, but I do approve the effort of new developers! It worth a play.
OK for a first effort. On the plus side, I like games that tell a story and although it was a little cliche for a horror, it was OK. I even got a couple of shivers towards the end! On the other hand, the comments about bad frame rates and the lack of general direction are accurate. The game starts without any instruction, so you just end up having to work out what to do and how to do it. Lots of random key presses to see what is possible. The flashlight is a bit of an issue too, most of the rooms (even with the lights on) are too dark to make your way around without it and with it, you can't see the little circle (which is the only way to tell if what you're pointing at can be interacted with). The flashing lights are headache inducing and there are a number of places where you can't read a note or look at a photograph unless you're standing in just the right spot when you pick it up. I finished it in around 45 minutes and it's fine for that as a little walker, if only for the story, but only for the <$1 mark. On that basis I'm giving it a tentative 'yes'.
A good game for the price and better than many games out there that are way more expensive, so give it a go. You can see that Layers of Fear was the inspiration for this game. The few problems I noticed was the torch seemed to be over bright at the wrong time, trying to read notes or look at photos or other stuff and the torch bleached out all the details, you had to point the torch away a little to read notes or press E. It would have been much better if we had clearer instructions as most of us had to use trial and error to open doors etc. Also the story behind the action was at best very weak but I appreciated the effort. Well worth supporting the developer.
You cant change the brightness or any other options in the game or in the start meny
