Earthworm Jim

Unplayable. I only paid a couple of dollars for this in the most recent Autumn 2020 sale, and want my money back. An extremely bad port of a game/world I adored on the SNES when I was 10 (maybe the aesthetic was funnier then, but it isn't very entertaining now that I'm 35). Don't waste your money on this. If you want to play this game, buy an SNES and a original cartridge instead. - Resolution is locked to 640x480 and does not scale. On a 32" 1440p display, the game window was around 4 inches (10.1cm) tall by 4 inches (10.1cm) wide. I may be missing something simple, but I couldn't stand the idea of wasting any more time trying to change it. - Xbox One controller support is minimal and extremely bad. For me, the game only registered inputs from the left thumbstick and the 4 ABXY buttons, but nothing else. No Dpad, bumpers, or triggers at all. It did not register consistent diagonal directional inputs from the left thumbstick, which made movement nearly impossible to manage. - Keyboard play isn't worth the time it would take to make the controls even remotely comfortable. Leave your memories of this one in the past. Save your money, or spend it on a much more recent and far superior pixelly platformer instead. There are plenty of them out there.

fun i'm a big fan of earthworm jim, the keyboard controls were awful but once i got an xbox one controller working with it via steam's controller input editor i had a blast, the game is hard but fair such a fun challenge

A true sin against nostalgia and an icon of 90's gaming. I give up on them ever fixing this or replacing it with one of the better ports for current purchasers. This was obviously a broken port cashgrab and if they ever release a remaster they would probably charge for it separate. I also heard dubious things about the dev, while I do not terribly care it does erode my faith that anything positive will happen with a revival of this I.P.

Terrible port. DOSbox with no fullscreen, controller compatibility is basically non-existent.

Despite being a wonderful game on the Sega Mega Drive, the DOS version here is rather lacklustre. Even if you manage to assign a modern pad via Antimicro or Joy2Key, the response time leaves a lot to be desired. I've also fallen through certain platforms in the levels which aren't meant to be fallen through. To be fair, it looks nice enough if you adjust the dosbox resolution setting to 0x0. Best to avoid this and just play the Mega Drive version instead though.

Finally EarthWorm Jim on pc!!!.....wait a minute.... A beloved classic game that was simply imported to PC with the lowest of efforts using DosBox. If you are unfamiliar with this program then you will quickly find out that... No controller Support. Low Res (you can alt+return for full screen though) Non-configurable keyboard layout. This game is great and the only way to truely experience this game is with a controller so you will need to have a 3rd party program to allow controller input -> Keyboard output. Great Game but bad port. Stay Away.
