The state of the game is shocking. its nothing like it was announced, i just saw that it was released bought it without second thoughts and now i see that the trailers in the shop are gone, diffrent pictures of the game, no more fancy buildings like in the titel picutre of the shop, just some clunky buildings, productions lines that wont work for unkown reason, heapiness of citizens fall, trust level cant be reached for the the first mission, right now it looks like a scam. was advertised diffrent some month ago, youtube channel shows aqueducts and windmills, theres nothing like this in game now. hope this changes quickly.
Earth of Oryn is broken, and the art you were excited about is nowhere to be found. Citizens leave / disappear because they have needs you can't meet, or they get stuck in a building and die. Citizens have jobs but they might just wander around chopping wood forever. The trust mechanic is busted, eventually scaring away all your citizens. Manufacturing straight up doesn't work. Merchants sell approximately 2 items per season, so it's nearly impossible to earn money. The walls that you see in previews are incredibly expensive so you can't afford to build them. Buildings all look the same, and -- at least this is honestly portrayed in the screenshots -- the roofs are busted. Earlier screenshots and video on Steam and Kickstarter portrayed a very different game (multiple civilizations, multiple biomes, siege weapons, combat) than the one that's for sale. I wanted that other game. This feels like No Man's Sky all over again.
Quite honestly, I bought the game because the representation of it seen in the gameplay trailer (here on this store's page) brought me in, as does the look of possible PVE. I'm a bit through early stages of the tutorial and I'm noticing that it's not that different from other city-building games. It feels lackluster, and "it's been done already" (mine stone, build farms, chop trees...yawn). I'll come back and give another review for this game, but I am not really impressed at the moment. I'll stay optimistic and review again some time in the future.
Earth of Oryn reminds me of the classic Settlers II, where you build your town and fight your neighbors. The graphics are detailed and the UI is polished, though sometimes a bit convoluted and lacking visual hierarchy. There's already a lot of complexity and things to do and manage. The tutorial covers the basics but breezes you through, not giving you much insight in all the game's systems. But that's expected for a game launching into early access, including the visual and audio glitches sprinkled throughout, though I didn't encounter any serious issues. Looking forward to see how this game grows during early access.
Congrats to the dev on the EA launch. I've kept an eye on this project for years now, checking in every few months. The genre has a lot of untapped opportunity and a common miss I see in these types of games involves terrain and decorating. So many colony sims end up feeling samey from a gameplay standpoint. This one could too, but already the visuals, decorating options, and terrain manipulation features make me think it has a strong chance at standing out. I'm a decorator at heart and really like what is already available. My recommendation is for those who don't mind supporting small devs and EA games. The game is (of course, IMO) far closer to an alpha than a beta but the bones are good. Never a guarantee, but please consider purchasing to support as I have.
I can't recommend this game in its current state. This feels VERY early in this game's life: Lack of content, tons of performance issues, and bugs bugs bugs. I can totally see a future where this game is content complete and stable, and is amazing and has dedicated fans. The bones are there, but I would wait and see. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on it and will update my recommendation after I feel more confident about the game's future. But it'll be up to the dev to deliver! I do have a lot of faith though, as a lot of work clearly went into this already. It just needs more time to a be a good experience.
Its a bit rough, but it is a good basis. Would really love to see it developed further.
Feel very harsh giving this a thumbs down, but it is far too hollow and unfinished to command anything near a double figure price tag at this stage. It reminds me far too much of a mobile game city builder without the ads, theres just nothing in this at the moment that makes me feel like i want to progress, and no real reason to want to keep playing. That being said, you can clearly see a lot of love has gone into it by a single dev, the art style is a throwback and the UI isnt overly complicated which many city building sims struggle with so theres heaps of potential. I will think about repurchasing when the game has had some much needed work on. If it was 2 or 3 quid i wouldnt mind but to pay 12 quid whilst its on sale when games like Schedule 1 are the same price is just mad to me. I know you can't directly compare the games but im just going solely on content.
This is an indie game made by a solo developer that truly deserves support! It’s still in Early Access, so yes, there are plenty of features missing, and the developer has made it clear that there’s still a lot of work ahead to fully realize their vision, which is completely understandable. That said, if you’re looking to support a chill city builder with a unique art direction and a lot of creative building potential, now is the perfect time to jump in.
