Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 3.33/day in the week to Aug 4 → 6.29/day in the week after.
Too few observations to say whether a discount moves this store's chart at all: across the last 30 days Steam · Top Sellers · Poland has just 18 day-to-day chart moves that followed a price cut, against 2,498 that did not. We are publishing the count instead of a direction — 20 is the fewest we will draw a conclusion from, and price collection outside the United States began on 6 August 2026.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.
About
Prepare for the deepest, most intricate simulation of a world that has ever been created.

Not just generated geometry -- a whole simulated world. Generated rise and fall of civilizations, personalities, creatures, cultures, etc. Infinite hours of gameplay.
Now with beautiful pixel graphics!
Learn the basics with in-game tutorials
A lifetime “living” project - created/updated since 2003, with no end in sight
Generate your unique world and manage a bustling colony of dwarves, even as they probably mine towards their eventual demise.
A new endless hobby, just for you!

The legendary Dwarf Fortress is now on Steam! Build a fortress and try to help your dwarves survive, despite threats of starvation, dragons, and madness.

In this complex construction/management/roguelike simulation, every generated world brings a unique challenge, whether it’s dwarves with their own simulated personalities or aquifers. Observe what makes your civilization fall into eventual decline, and learn for next time… until something else inevitably goes wrong.
The combat model includes skills, body parts, material properties, aimed attacks, wrestling, pain, nausea, various poison effects, and much more.
It’s difficult to convey the depth of the generation. Hundreds of animals and monsters, many of which are randomly created for each world, as well as generated poetry, musical forms, instruments, and dances for your dwarves to practice and perform. A dynamic weather model tracks wind, humidity, and air masses to create fronts, clouds, storms, and blizzards. Over two hundred rock and mineral types can appear, in their proper geological environments.
Remember: Losing is fun!

This is still good old Dwarf Fortress, but with graphics support and music provided. A few bells and whistles won’t change its essence.
Classic Dwarf Fortress mod-artist Jacob "Ironhand" Bowman collaborated with artists Carolyn Jong and Neoriceisgood to create an all-new sprite pack for the game, which they continue to add to regularly.
Dwarf Fortress also has hours of music in a two-volume soundtrack by Dabu and Simon Swerwer, including tracks in the Dwarvish language!
It's never been easier to start playing! We've improved the new player experience with the addition of tutorials to guide you through building your first fort and keeping your dwarves happy.

Command your dwarves as they search for wealth in their generated mountain. Your dwarves will need a steady supply of food and beer, but they’ll also need your guidance in surviving attacks from hostile civilizations, the wilderness, or even the dead.
Craft treasures and furnitures from various materials
Establish a barony and support the increasingly demanding nobility
Read your dwarves’ thoughts to keep them happy
Build floodgates to divert water for farming, and/or prevent magma mishaps
Build structures and watch your dwarves discover and build their culture, like taverns, libraries, temples, honey, wax, pottery, animal training, bookbinding, and more.
Go anywhere! Explore any civilization, earn a reputation, and recruit followers to join you
Experience your fortress and the simulation in a new, more embodied way
Explore mythical dungeons to find magical items, artifacts, and fill your quest journal
Hints of mythology and magic as a start of future simulation enrichment to come
An additional hour of music from Dabu and Simon Swerwer, presented as a second volume of the original soundtrack

The open format and the insane level of things that can happen makes this the ultimate sandbox game.
If there would be one game that I could take with me to deserted island to entertain me to the rest of my life, it would be Dwarf Fortress, no guestions asked. I actually bought the game twice and not regret a single cent. The game is complete middle finger to current game industry such as Minecraft or Terraria is. No DLC (outside of OST, that is included in the game), no microtransactions, no paywalls. You buy it, you got it. This is important when you compare it to for example Rimworld or other colony building games. The gameplay is not for everybody. You either love it with your entire heart or hate it. Both positions are equally understandable. Game has some bugs, tutorial is about reading a lot of text and there is no endgoal or something to strife towards. But the level of simulation of fictional worlds is just fascinating in every sence of the word. Tolkien or G.R.R Martin, for deep respect I hold towards them, can't simply compare to level of worldbuilding done by one procedurally generated world. Game mechanics are beyond anything you expect based on other games you might have played in the past. Every individual has their own motivations, personality and desires. Crafting and specializing tasks is very complicated, but incredibly fun ones you understand it. With my 30 - 35 hours combined, I saw like 1% or less of what the game offers and from that tiny amount alone, I am in constant awe, just thinking about it. It can be played casually with few hours here and there or you can spend thousands of hours "striking the ground". It's completely up to you! I can't recommend it enough for everybody reading this interview. As a person with past of gaming addiction, this is only game I can play and safely enjoy. No gatcha techinques keeping you glued to the screen for extended period of time other then pure fun alone. Loosing is fun!

Adventure mode is great, the tutorial is good so its alot easier to figure out how to play it in the steam version. If you are good with the keyboard controls fortress mode is much better in the classic version since you won't constantly miss combat until all your dwarves are dead. I can't believe there still isn't a way to pause the game and recenter the camera on combat start, you can only do this for various alerts within combat, which is not useful as I don't want to pause and recenter the camera every time a punch is thrown. Should be fixable with mods, make sure you look for combat log mods on the workshop before you start a save.
games good, crazy depth and a steep learning curve but extremely rewarding. magic update soon WOOOOOOOOOO
Dwarf Fortress is a sandbox to create worlds, and interact with that world, primarily as a dwarf. There are three game modes, each wildly different. The mainly discussed mode, fortress, sets you as the overseer of a new settlement of 7 dwarves. It starts with you selecting training and expertise for your dwarves, then filling a wagon with supplies to begin your journey. There is also Adventure mode, where you are an individual dwarf(or other race) and try to live in this world, becoming a hero and learning the secrets of the gods. Finally there is Legends mode, where you can read about anything you know of the world from the above gamemodes, or everything if you want. This lets you read about settlements, governing bodies of said settlements, any named individual who has existed. You can follow a human to an elven settlement, that gets raided by goblins back to the goblin camp to discover the secrets of your world. I personally have mostly played fortress mode and will focus the rest of my review on that. Which is that it takes the precision and simulation the legends tracking provides, to give every individual item, and creature and dwarf, unique wants. The fortress mode begins about learning dwarven needs, and how to satisfy them. Over time you learn how to deal with more problems, more environments, and more individual dwarven wants. The game is truly open ended, with no 'true' end or goal other than keep the fortress going. Unless you want to kill them as your goal. which you could. And reclaim the fortress, and do it again. Truly a sandbox of experiences.
Tarn and Zach Adams, and the rest of the Bay 12 Games team have made a masterpiece in Dwarf Fortress. I played classic on and off for years before picking it up on steam. Yes the UI can be a little clunky at times but this may truly be the greatest colony sim game of all time, definitely up there with Rimworld and other contenders. This game is worth your time, and very much worth your money. You will lose track of time, you will lose your fortresses a lot to absurdity you can't help but laugh at. It's great. Strike the earth.
If you can't watch my hours go up in on a week to week basis it's because there was an intervention
very good game, almost anything can happen...
