猿神,启动!
Let's just start by saying that this game has everything essential that make a good roguelite game; it has tons of unlocks, tons of weapon variety, 15 different classes of characters that are all quite different, different difficulties, great progression between runs, and different boss paths to choose. There is definitely TONS of replayability! The only thing that is somewhat lacking is the map layouts, but I wouldn't necessarily call it bad... just not super interesting. However, this game is not about the exploration and it really focuses on the combat, which I dig. Out of the 7.5 hours I have played, I beat 2 normal runs and have been struggling with hard mode. The i-frames are basically non-existent, so if you get hit by a nasty attack, you can take damage several times. This means that you are never safe, and since my favorite game is Nuclear Throne, that does not bother me. To others, it might seem a little cheap, though. There is an unlockable endless mode that I am looking forward to trying after beating hard. For the right person, this game can offer dozens, if not hundreds of hours of content, so if you love hardcore 2D action roguelites, this might be your favorite new game.
Dunjungle (Playable) The most wonderful game. Genetically ideal. Comes in a perfect natural roguelike, totally breathtaking and entertaining. Source of joy, helps preventing despondency. JUST MAGNIFICENT. Instantly restore 100% of your menthal health.
monkey cells
To parrot the comparison everyone else keeps making... This game really is just like *Garfield Kart Racing! *
Dead Cells except you're a monkey and everything is jungle-themed.
Really fun game! Lots of synergies, build variety, and meta progression. The game is very similar to Dead Cells but still a lot of fun. I've played a few Dead Cells imitators and none of them have been this good.
Hard, yet not grimdark. So nice to see that. Beyond that, it's a gentler, more permissive Dead Cells. For example, Dunjungle's classes provide interesting strengths and weaknesses that can make for winning runs, but they each require a unique strategy. Probably because they're not pure benefit, players using DJ's classes can still gain meta-progression on their runs, unlike DC's 'aspects', which lock some achievements and gains. It's also got a lot of loving little touches in it. One rotating piece of concept art can be seen in the hub after every win or loss. Item descriptions often contain jokes and references. The locked-room challenges and elemental-attack-granting fruit pay homage to Bubble Bobble and similar classics. The interact button, by default, is for monkey-screeches. Not perfect, of course. Traps are sometimes hard to see or avoid. Finding the doors and then backtracking to monsters often ends kill streaks. I-frames after getting hit ought to be a little more generous. Minor stuff. Doesn't matter. Anyhow, if you like a challenge and don't need it drenched in gallons of blood, gore, and edgelordism, Dunjungle's probably a game for you!
Really great little roguelike, I'm still working on the "Extra Hard" difficulty, it's quite challenging. This game is criminally underexposed (I would say underrated but it's never dipped below overwhelmingly positive reviews). The art style is unique and playful, the sound design works well with the visuals and sounds clean overall. The combat and movement are well implemented and designed. The weapons, enemy types, boss fights and exploration are all interesting and fun to engage with. These aspects of the game succeed in their mission to leave you with a feeling of wanting to push for that next unlock. A great experience from top to bottom. Well done.
Yes. Hell, yeah! If you like Dead Cells and especially if you like Dead Cells BUT you kinda suck at it (LOL), this game is for you. It's definitely easier and that helps the average player like myself to have the feeling of a clear improvement and keep playing. I honestly enjoyed this game way way more than I thought I would. Tight gameplay, simple mechanics, more than enough upgrades to keep you replaying until you unlock everything (and with the promise with future releases) and, very important to the genre, that very important feeling of "juuuust one more run!". One important note, though: if you have played the demo before, have in mind that you CANNOT use the same save file. So all the progress in the demo will be lost. (which is understandable since the demo and the full game have some noticeable differences. But I still recommend the demo if you are on the fence)
