Dungeons & Dragons: Krynn Series

I am primarily leaving a review for this because I just heard they are including system specs with reviews now and I want it to be VERY clear that I had a system powerful enough to run MS-DOS games from the early 1990s (The Gold Box games are universally good though--like if you are familiar with Dungeons & Dragons and have ANY tolerance for old interfaces and graphics, you will have a blast running your party through multiple games in multiple series)

It took a moment to wrap my head around navigating a DOS game again, but it's fun to be reminded of the good 'ol childhood, and that fancy "top of the line" computer we got back then.

Champions and Death Knights were great, just like I remembered from when I was a much younger person. But even as a child I always had technical problems getting through Dark Queen. This version is no different. I was over half-way through Dark Queen when each one of my saves got wiped somehow. They were just gone. Makes no sense.

Classic set of Krynn games, plays the same as the other PoR series but with the extra spice of a lot more dragons the FP dungeon exploration + tactical battle screen remains the best set up for RPGs known to man

Classic D&D RPG at its finest!

I love these games, they are right there with the 2nd Forgotten realms (Curse of the Azure Bonds, Pools of Radiance) series. Gameplay is good old school AD&D 2nd edition rules, a little improved upon, depending how you see it. The reason I don't recommend it? They didn't remove the copy protection like they did on ALL the other ones, so you gotta stop, open a window, open the journal, find the word, type it in, its all a bunch of bunk how many layers do you need? These games are from the 1900's! The 1900's! Completely kills the actual immersion you encounter in these types of games. Also, YOU MUST LIKE KNIGHTS BECAUSE THATS WHAT THE GAME IS ABOUT. I never had a title actually affect the game. I am at a point where I cannot proceed due to needing a Knight-classed character to pass through a burning portal. Well, I didn't need no stinkin' knights...its like worse than a paladin and thats my least favorite class aside from thief. So, yeah, As an RPG, it broke one of the golden rules of RPGs - play it how you want. Nope. Play it how we ASSUME. Now it has read my angry review and deleted one of my party members. How quaint. I do not remember the originals having these sort of bugs, or certainly any cloud save problems. De-steam this crap, I've played the version that killed the copy protection, and it was better. Do better. This is some serious fubaring a game up. Try the Commodore versions. Maybe Amiga. So this game is un-playable (cloud save issues), and steam will NOT give you a refund. Total bunk, it seems like a great deal, and would be...had they not ruined the games by ruining your game with 100 hours in it.

The Dungeons & Dragons: Krynn Series is a must-play for DragonLance fans and old-school CRPG diehards. Set in the world of Krynn, these Gold Box titles (Champions of Krynn, Death Knights of Krynn, and The Dark Queen of Krynn) drop you right into the War of the Lance era, letting you experience that setting in a way the books only hint at. The turn-based combat is classic Gold Box - tactical, methodical, and deeply satisfying once it clicks - while party creation and progression give you that true tabletop D&D feel. It’s definitely dated, with a learning curve and an interface that shows its age, but the payoff is a rich, cohesive campaign that carries across all three games. If you’ve read the DragonLance novels or just want a pure, no-frills D&D experience, this collection delivers.
