How can Chromatic Games reasonably expect customers to buy their games when they repeatedly abandon them post-launch?
Let's begin....As an OG dungeon defenders fan, I'm always excited to see if Chromatic Games (formerly Trendy Entertainment) can bring back the magic I once experienced back in 2010. Unfortunately, in my opinion, each and every subsequent game released as not given me that feeling. I understand that the world of video games has changed a lot since 2010, but I truly feel that they had it right the first time and should have continued to build upon its strong foundation. However, I fear they have strayed away from the charm they once had. Problem #1: No main lobby or explorable tavern. You were once able to test out weapons/towers/abilities, collect trophies in your trophy room, manage characters, etc. Now...you're stuck in a Call of Duty-esque menu screen where you upgrade/edit your character/towers. It may seem weird to complain about a main lobby but the tavern had so much character and charm that truly immersed you into the world of Etheria. Problem #2: Pacing. In most maps, you are basically forced to dash back and forth between two doors. Once you're done killing all enemies from one door, the enemies seemingly spawn immediately across the map. Which I understand it keeps up the tempo of the game but It gets old. Problem #3: Movement. The overall movement of your character is not fluid. It feels half finished. You can experience what I am talking about most when jumping is involved. I don't know what the exact fix would be but it feels off. Problem #4: Enemy AI. Enemies sometimes will move faster than the speed of light for no reason. They also feel like a much dumbed down version of the 2010 enemies. Specifically speaking about their targeting. Sometimes they can't decide what they want to do (i mean i get that way sometimes too but i digress). Problem #5: Challenges/Accolades. Back in 2010, there were challenges for each map and completing would give you bonuses.. Additionally, there were career accolades you could. Not just leaderboard stats either. That's a whole different topic. In video games, completing challenges and obtaining rewards is where in dopamine and endorphins hit. I wanted to end this review with a couple positives... Pro #1: I know most of this game is reused assets (which is fine) but i think they did a great job on the lighting. That goes for the environment, character, weapons, etc. Pro #2: Incorporating new second attacks. As the squire, the ability to throw my shield like captain america is awesome. It also does a surprising amount of damage too. Definitely a step in the right direction. Pro #3: Little to no micro-transactions and a low price point! DD2 was plagued with micro-transactions and it was difficult to progress without spending money. Which I know that DD2 was free game and needed ways to make money, but its not the way to go.. Youre not Fortnite. You dont need to be Fortnite. If someone from Chromatic Games wants to discuss further, Id be happy to share my full thoughts. Thanks.
I have no idea why I can review this, I don't own the game. I can only presume I have refunded it, which means I would never recommend it.
just no... someone in charge must have been brain dead for this to get developed.
My friend bought this for me, it cost £1. I called them a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ idiot. It's complete and utter in typical fashion Chromatic Games Abandonware Garbage™
Dungeon Defenders: Going Rogue
Rating: 3/10
The Short Version
Verdict: A "mid" attempt at a spin-off. If you ignore the franchise name and judge it purely as a roguelike, it fails to deliver a smooth or rewarding experience. Between the unhelpful upgrades and the confusing mechanics, it's a difficult game to recommend.

[th]Category[/th] [th]Rating[/th]

Graphics Good / Polished Looks

Gameplay Unpolished & Clunky

Complexity Confusing for Newcomers

Gameplay & Mechanics
"A frustrating blend of genres that doesn't quite click." The Experience: The gameplay is pretty mid. The mechanics don't feel smooth, and for a game trying to be a roguelike, it lacks the "flow" you'd expect from the genre.

Upgrades: Most of the upgrades you find aren't actually that helpful. You don't get that satisfying feeling of becoming "overpowered" as the run progresses.
Polish: Much of the game feels unpolished. Actions and movements don't feel as responsive as they should be for a modern title.
The Hybrid Struggle: If you aren't already a fan of the Dungeon Defenders franchise or a roguelike veteran, it is very difficult to understand what is going on.

The "Crystal" Problem
Double Jeopardy: One of the most annoying parts of the game is the dual-failure state.

You still have to defend the crystal like a traditional tower defense game.
However, because it’s a roguelike, dying personally also ends your entire run.
Balancing both feels like a chore rather than a fun challenge, especially when the game doesn't feel smooth enough to handle the pressure.

Graphics

The Plus Side: The graphics are actually quite good. The art style stays true to the series and looks clean on screen.
Visual Clarity: While it looks nice, the visual polish doesn't make up for the lack of mechanical polish.

Final Thoughts
Who is this for? Hardcore fans of the franchise who just want more content, but even then, it’s a tough sell. If you're looking for a top-tier roguelike, look elsewhere. Conclusion: It’s a 3/10. It had a decent idea, but between the clunky mechanics and the annoying death conditions, it’s just not very enjoyable to play.
as of 2026 there has been no updates in 3 years, the game is very much still broken with what appears to be no future in sight, just go buy dungeon defenders 1 as they are still updating it and is probably the only one that will continue to get any of attention at all, unfortunate as i wanted to see if this ever became a thing but clearly it was hanging by the rope before coming out of early access
This game is a scam, totally unfinished, only made to make money on the DD hype. I waited for a real update since 2023, but since there's no news, I asked a full refund. I played hundreds of hours of the last previous DD games but this one is clearly a scam.
Generally it could be a very good game but i think it lacks content... a lot. I grew up playing dd1, i got that game when i was 8 year old and now im finishing university in computer science so if u need any developer just hire me :)
Not worth it. The game is discontinued and hasnt recieved any update since 2023. I probably wouldnt buy this even if it went on a 99% sale.
