About
In order to get her hands on a cherished wine collection, rumored to be hidden away by Vampire of Demise Endo, drunken Rogue Lita makes her way to the vampire king's castle. See what story unfolds in this roguelike deck-building game.
To make it to the vampire's castle, you must conquer several dungeons, each with its own traps, terrain, and ferocious demons lying in wait. A frontal assault is simply too reckless. Lita takes advatage of her Wind Cloak while Endo posesses the ability to turn into fog, allowing both to evade the perils of their adventure. However, what you evade only comes back stronger on the next floor. Whether you are prepared to face the inevitable trouble is up to you.
The best part is that the characters in this game get stronger the drunker they become! The only way to step foot into the all-too-risky dungeons is to do so with intoxicated abandon! To top things off, the drunker you become, the less you can tell what's real and what's not, and you may even hallucinate. Your pet dog Odysseus that appears before you may very well be a fiendish demon. Please drink responsibly.

Another inventive and unique japanese indie game published by Waku Waku, Drunken Rogue is a master of it's own vibe and a drunken blast to play that takes it's own gimmick and makes something special out of it! Now, at the time of review I haven't played much of the official release (mostly played the demo), but I want to get the ball rolling on an early review because I don't think it's super clear what kind of game Drunken Rogue is. Despite being listed as a roguelike deckbuilder, this game feels more like roguelike character building game based all around DnD checks. Basically, you have 6 stats and 2 playable characters who raise them in slightly different ways. You can get gear and items to improve the stats or help you 'cheat' on checks, and the whole game is a series of checks against the stats; Unlock for opening chests, Perception for traps, you get the gist. So, in that environment, the game seems almost sterile...what makes it so unique? Well, there are two main gimmicks, and for comedic effect, i'll leave the drunken elephant unaddressed for now. The game has the ability to postpone checks, delaying the check and making the rewards much greater, but the check itself much higher too. While it can be reasonably assumed that you'll be more powerful in the future, you're flying closer and closer to the sun each time you do so, and if you're postponing a challenge you can't meet, you're living on borrowed time. It adds a fun risk/reward dynamic that makes winning runs feel so much better. But even with that, there's something missing, some X-factor that really makes the game replayable right? Well, let's just say such a thing exists, and it involves booze...lots, and lots of booze. There is another stat called Tipsiness, and at 0, your checks are totally static, meaning you need 8 Unlock to beat an 8 Unlock check. But down a bottle or two and all of a sudden your checks balloon in size, and inconsistency; they become WAY more random but on average MUCH higher, and combined with the music switching to jazzy and upbeat at high Tipsiness, and all of a sudden the game becomes a trip of manic laughter as you slaughter checks left and right and demolish anything that dare gets in your way, at least until you get a bit overeager, realise that 80% success rate is not in fact 100%, and enter the 'finding out' phase as your Tipsiness drops, the music calms down, and your character's frenetic exclamation marks!... get replaced with 3 dots as they too start coming down from the high... And even if you don't want to play recklessly while drunk, you don't really have a choice, because there's a real nasty side effect you'll grapple with even IF you manage to fuel your healthy coping mechanism; Hallucinations. That's right, getting too drunk outright obfuscates the checks themselves, meaning you can charge forward with reckless abandon if you truly feel you can do no wrong, or use your very limited but invaluable herbs to clear up said hallucinations, at the cost of killing your buzz. It is SUCH a fun gameplay loop that really does capture the essence of drunken confidence and the ecstasy that comes with it, and this is the x-factor that really makes the game stand out and shine in my opinion. Not to mention how there are two different characters with different playstyles that both play with this gimmick! Now, as said prior this is an early review, so it's hard to gauge how long or difficult the game will be in its later stages (I'd like to update this when I get there), but for the earlier runs I have done, the game is accessible yet super addictive, the plot is fun and the character's are very silly, it's just a very authentic game that realises it's gimmick solidly; The drunken aspect isn't just slapped in as a joke, it's a crucial part of the gameplay too, and it makes this a truly unique and fun experience! Definitely recommend!

Alcoholism
A delightful deck-based adventure game about a drunk rogue named Lita and her escapades for further inebriation! You also have the cute daddy's girl little vampire Endo seeking to save her ill father, the Vampire King. Their fateful encounter intertwines their journeys and the fate of alcohol and all those who drink it! As a Lita, the more dangers you overcome, the more EXP and stat points you gain and get to allocate to grow stronger and stronger until you're snowballing through dangers left and right without really understanding what they even are. Basically, the main point about playing as Lita is to get so utterly smashed you stop facing reality and can charge through anything without any worry, carried solely by the power of pure inebriation. Alcohol acts as a stat multiplier, and while you can increase your stats normally, alcohol determines your maximum roll and the bonus minimum amount you get when rolling. The tipsier you are, the more of a god-tier adventurer you become. The more sober Lita gets, the more she realizes just how dangerous her situation actually is and the more she starts to panic, represented by your rolls dropping down to reflect only your basic stat line. Needless to say, this game is a comedic adventure from the get-go, and how the wacky, life-threatening adventures Lita and Endo find themselves in is largely up to you. You also get to play as Endo, who plays completely differently from the alcohol-loving Lita. Rather than building up your stats, you create curses, which are powerful single-use cards that can turn the tide of battle. Ah, I'll come back and write more about Endo once I've spent more time playing as her. ^^; <To be filled in at a later date> You can get through each dungeon in about 30 minutes or so, but there is a lot of replayability to be found here. Since item rewards aren't guaranteed, you usually build Lita around whatever you can scrounge up. For example, if early on you find a weapon that massively boosts your attack, you can usually get away with pumping other stats and leaving your actual attack stat low, since you always be encountering danger cards that stat check all sorts of stat combinations. I'd say it's actually ill-advised to pump a single stat over all the others, and perception is usually your most used stat because many event cards typically also have danger cards that trigger if you fail a perception check, usually traps or monster encounters. That may not be a bad thing however, as the additional danger may also be overcome and you can gain even more EXP and items because of them. You also have the ability to postpone dangers for the next floor, which increases the stats of the danger card and increases the quality of the reward for beating it. Thus, your average run typically involves a ton of risk management and mitigating relying on luck by managing when to take on certain risks. The music in the game is very catchy and perfectly captures the mood of the player character. The tipsier she gets, the more light-hearted and more of an upbeat party atmosphere the game takes on. The more sober you get, the more dire, grim, and dark the soundtrack gets, until it gets to the point where the game basically turns into Fear & Hunger and the dread of sobriety creeps in. Drink or die, is what the game is telling you. Overall, I strongly recommend this lovely little game! There's even an additional Seven Deadly Gins EX mode once you've beaten the game, and you can always play as Endo to mix things up and see her side of the journey, too. Alcoholism, ho!
The BGM when at low tipsyness really matches the dread of being sober.
