About
Drone Sector fuses the gunship close air support role with the drone's observation and mission command. Inspired by the real-life AC-130 gunship and MQ-9 Reaper drone, it merges these powerful roles in a futuristic setting, where advanced technology and heavier firepower enable you to take on more complex and dangerous missions. While not a pure military simulator, the focus remains on tactical planning and execution, with greater flexibility in mission design and weaponry.
Guide your squads as they advance through hostile environments to achieve mission objectives. Command with precision, helping them avoid traps and eliminating high-priority threats with your overwhelming firepower. Outnumbered by enemy forces, you’ll need to maximize your technological superiority to turn the tide.
During each mission, you’ll need to make strategic decisions about resource gathering. Send your ground squads into buildings or key areas to collect vital resources and research documents—but this comes with risk. Stay too long, and you may lose your squad to overwhelming enemy forces. Decide when to extract and when to push your luck for valuable rewards.
Between missions back at base, upgrade your gunship, squads, and weapons. Manage your ammo production and research new technologies to improve your chances in the field.

Commanding self-sufficient squads on the ground

Great fun! I did not expect this to be even better than zombie gunship! Very cool plane you are given to use, and plenty of variety of armaments. The gameplay is completely satisfying and challenging. You can adjust your altitude, orbit, and speed, which affects the time it takes rounds to land and SAM lock-on times. There is a complete unlock tree, and you need different resources to unlock them, as well as manufacture ammo you need. Well worth the money, and a great addition to the collection.
Still in very early access, but I like what I'm seeing so far. Had everything I am looking for in a drone game without being excessively complicated. I am hopeful the dev will continue to work on this project and expand its potential.

TL;DR: A solid 6/10 RTS-Shooter weighed down by its resource system and largely lacking in originality. Maybe worth your money, not worth your time. Important note: I played the Drone Sector demo and liked the singular available mission. It contains all the good elements of this game, minus a few of the more exotic weapons systems. --- THE MISSIONS The guns are satisfying to shoot, the sound effects are a solid 7. Commanding your units isn't very tedious, which some similar RTS games can be a pain with. Graphics requirements are completely reasonable. The UI and controls are simple and easy to understand; the tutorials are informative and to-the-point, when it comes to the 'missions. The mission concept in general is solid, if nothing original; a good PC port of similar drone-strike mobile games, with the expected graphics and quality of life enhancements. --- STRATEGIC LAYER The strategic layer is...a drag, for lack of a better word. Each mission gives you resources (bulk materials, warhead materials, electronics, optics, fissiles, etc) which you can use in two ways: making ammo and researching new stuff. Making ammunition for your weapons is, in short, a pain in the ass. It transforms a strategy game of levels, increasing capability-difficulty curve and possibly even some story elements into a 'survival-shooter' where you have to select your missions based on what materials you want to grind. One of the reasons I bought this game was to enjoy the Rambo experience of laying waste to troops, vehicles and fortifications, and by the second play-through (the experience is more sandbox than campaign) I was budgeting my bullets like an accountant! Research trees aren't bad, they do make for some good progression, and this one did in fact make some sense. It's also a nice way to change the difficulty settings, since easy/medium/hard difficulties start with differing tech levels and quality-of-life enhancements (medium difficulty has no thermal sights to begin with, for one). --- CONCLUSION Drone sector, at the basic mission level, is a well-made remaster of the popular drone fire support mobile games that have existed since the 2010s. The graphics and sound effects are good, the hardware requirements reasonable, and the gunplay almost satisfying. The strategic layer shifts the tone of the game from an action-shooter to a survival-shooter, and correct resource management significantly dampens the largest selling point of such games; unleashing torrents of gunfire on your enemies. Changes such as fixed per-mission ammunition counts (with research tree upgrades to capacity), alongside a proper tutorial or introduction to the strategic layer would make the game truly satisfying, at least for me. I'll lurk around to see all the features and possibly update my review, but I doubt I will be keeping this game.
I tried liking the game but man are the squad vehicles so annoying. every damn time they get stuck on the most dumbest loop possible where they would drive up to a wall and spend the next 5 minutes reversing then driving back up the same wall all while getting shot up by enemy then dies because it spent the time looping when it could've moved on to the next ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ waypoint I set up. I tried guiding them to the waypoint one click at a time and still manages to get stuck in a magic loop of reverse drive into a wall, what a fun experience.
Very unique game. Commanding infantry while also playing what is essentially the AC-130 missions from COD. Very fun, very intuitive, great controls. 10/10, definitely recommended. Hope to see some larger missions in the future, having more than 4 squads would be very cool, even if limited to the sandbox mode.
It's everything I wanted from a game like this
