Dreams in the Witch House

I just realized I never left a review for this! Shame on me, because this is an absolute banger of a debut. The survival mechanics can be very frustrating at times (to be fair, that's kind of the point), but it's just admirable how the developer has managed to integrate three disparate aspects (storytelling, rpg/survival and point and point-and-click adventuring) into such a finely tuned package. News just broke that he's working on a new project based on The Dunwich Horror and I just can't wait to go insane again.

Первое о чем надо сказать это не традиционный poind and click квест. Скорее это такой симулятор жизни студента в Лавкратовском сеттинге: знакомства, учеба, ковыряние в помойке в надежде найти еду, сидение по ночам за книгами, низкоквалифицированные подработки, арендодатель, алкаш сосед, древние боги и человеческие жертвоприношения. В общем обычная студенческая жизнь. Есть перегибы с тайм-менеджментом. Присутствует рандомизация, проходил 2 раза, есть элементы которые менялись. У меня с первого раза получить хорошую концовку не вышло. Вот две вещи которые я крайне порекомендую тем кто начнет игру для лучшего старта: 1 [spoiler] Начинайте игру несколько раз до тех пор пока первый предмет не будет связан с математикой [/spoiler] 2 [spoiler] На первой неделе берите в библиотеке 2 книги химию для начинающих и книгу своего предмета. Как только устаете сразу начинайте читать химию так как она не требует отдыха для усвоения. Зная химию вы можете многие вещи сделать сами клей яд и т.д. просто прочитав состав[/spoiler]

Probably one of the best Lovecraftian style video game I have ever played! It is quite adictive and fun. Easy to understand while challenging. The music and sound effects are chilling! I had some scary moments for sure! My real life sanity dropped a few points! Good job to the developpers. I would like to see more games in this style of game play, remininscing of games such as Maniac Mansion. I would give it 10/10.

One of the best adventure games I've played and certainly the best game (of all genres) based on Lovecraft's short stories. Survival mechanics and various activities relating to managing the life of a poor student mesh extremely well with the mystery, otherworldly elements and the investigation we can conduct. I can hardly wait for the next game from this studio.

Really enjoyed it, I'm not usually a point and clicker type of gamer but I do love me lovecraftian themes so it got my attention and it didn't disappoint. The game is quite punishing if you spend your actions and time leisurely due to needing to balance several stats like sanity, health, hunger, sick/cold as well as your math, occult and exam stats for progression. Money is also really rough. It definitely is on the higher end of difficulty than other point and click games. It kind of reflects how stressful Walter's life is to be honest. He himself has manage and deal with university life, publishing his own papers, preparing for exams, while juggling the occult. If you really are into lovecraftian and point and click games with a bit more bite to it in difficulty I do highly recommend it. There's absolutely no handle holding and you have to dig through a lot of actual articles and walls upon walls of text to find clues. Also the dev is pretty responsive and helped me fixed my issue through Steam forums (the bug report thread) which I highly appreciate. Really looking forward to the next game being developed that was announced - Dunwich Horror [spoiler] which is connected to this game through a character. [/spoiler]

I was drawn to this game because I liked its visual style, and like the point-and-click genre, and because it purported to adapt H. P. Lovecraft's short story of the same name. Indeed, it is a very good adaptation of the story. When it diverges from the source material, it's to its benefit, fleshing out Walter Gilman's environment and the characters around him to make this engaging as an adventure game, as well as a sort of RPG/survival hybrid. However, my first impression on starting to play it was that it simulates to a frightening degree the feeling of starting college away from home. The various stupid mistakes you can make about basic things like feeding yourself, the substandard living conditions, learning how to learn, balancing between your curriculum and your personal interests... those all make the first run-through of the game its very own thing. It's all done in a way that encouraged me to replay it, despite getting the Worst Ending at first. Each run randomizes certain local and global elements, adding to the sense of discovery. I'm now in the midst of a third playthrough, investigating a specific path, and it will probably not be my last.

A true treasure among adventure games. Original, new gameplay mechanics and a captivating Lovecraftian atmosphere.
