dragonscales 5 is a great hex-based match-3, most similar to ds2, but only 4 of the 7 games are available on steam individually and they cost more than the 1-7 bundle released recently (my review), so there's no point in buying this. ds4 ended with zarya (daughter of ds2's derek) becoming trained enough to wake an ancient dragon to defeat the big bad in gravity kingdom. so we're fighting our way to said dragon with familiar and new characters. 200 levels in 20 worlds in adventure mode, same functionality as ds4, plus optional touchscreen controls. new mechanics are inverted gravity, rotating and placing grouped tiles, swapping tiles (2 clicks, not dragging). bosses in most worlds, the colosseum is back (only bosses unlocked in adventure + real ending). you have hp, a bow and arrows now. matches do damage, arrows on scales before placing them do more. some arrows need manual aiming, minions move around. 16 power-up cards to buy once unlocked. stars open 12 missions (mini-games, bonus levels), need all for the last one. some cards and gear are only found here and half the stars are hidden, not great.
’ve been following the DragonScales saga for a while, and keep getting surprised at how good it gets every single time. Great to finally be able to buy it at Steam, and now off to lose hours matching scales and discovering how the story goes on.
Great game, nice SFX and graphics and replay value; I have all of them on a different service and have enjoyed them all and well worth the investment.
