I purchased this game because I own and enjoyed Draft Day Sports' pro and college basketball sims. Unfortunately, I found Pro Football 2022 pretty boring. Maybe it's more geared for those who are into the coaching aspect and designing plays and playbooks. I, however, am interested only in roster building, coach hiring, and the amateur draft, and those GM elements feel pretty bland.
Draft Day Sports Pro Football is a promising American Football Simulation game that I really hope continues to advance and enhance. Like many other sports gamers, I am desperately looking for a real franchise sim since Madden has chased the MUT money and left the rest of us behind. It is my hope that this game finds support from the franchise/sim community to enable the developer the resources and market to continue to evolve this game. I believe DDSPF aims to be the OOTP of American Football which would be amazing. It is not there yet but I do believe the potential is there. The game is not without its issues this year. The UI can use some quality of life improvements (sorting, league wide editing), there are some bugs (safeties are far too common, QB rushing is off and some stats totals are bugged) and the on field play execution is a bit janky (players not lining up correctly, plays not always representing the outcome) and not as smooth or accurate as it needs to be given the lack of visuals. It is important here to note that this game does not have or NEED fancy play execution visuals to be a top notch product (see OOTP Baseball). The Xs and Os on field display will be perfectly adequate once it becomes smooth and accurate. If you are looking for a Madden clone, this is not it. If you are looking for a GM/Franchise Sim then this game has the potential to be a go to product. So while the game is not perfect I definitely can recommend this as a buy to support the genre and is an enjoyable product even with its flaws. Hopefully the developer keeps iterating each year to focus enhancements in areas EA has forgotten. My wish list for 2023 includes: - More commissioner mode support - Impact player roles/tendencies (game-breaker, scrambler, strong arm, deep threat, fan favorite, fumbler, sack specialist, power back, injury prone, shutdown corner, big hitter, road blocker, etc - similar to Madden 08 PS2) This would allow more diversity among player types. - Watch a college "all-star" game with incoming draft class rookies as a scouting tool - Pregame show (screen) with key players, stats, predictions In closing, the game has improved every year and I hope those on the fence will throw support and a few bucks behind this game to further broaden the market and allow these amazing independent/Not EA developers to create a game that can meet or even surpass what OOTP has done for baseball.
If you can live with the dated UI, FOF8 has better simulation "guts" than this game. Some things from my 1 hour of play * Contracts are simplified, meaning you choose a dollar amount and decide if you want to front load or back load. You can't tinker with $ per year or bonus money or anything. * All free agents are available for $500k per year during the season. I guess that's a simple way of doing it but not very realistic. * There's no indication for where a LB should play. I have no idea which LB will be better inside or outside, in a 3-4 or 4-3, in coverage or rushing the passer. All LB on your team are just LB. * There's no coverage attribute for defense either. I guess you just set your depth chart for your secondary by overall rating? * The menus look nice at face value but there's a lot of inefficient clicking to get the info you need to make a decision. Not much better than FOF8 but it's not really worse either. I really did want to like this game and I'd love for a football version of OOTP to exist, but unfortunately this isn't that game. Stick with FOF8 if you want that type of game until something comes along that can take the depth of FOF8 and put a nice interface on it.
Been playing since early release and the developers have quickly fixed bugs that were brought to their attention. If you like games like OOTP, FHM and Football Manager + like football then you will enjoy this game. Team Names, players, finances, league setup, and more can be adjusted/customized to your liking and there are a few mods from prior installations that will work easily. For a small gaming company this is a very good game.
I want to love the game so badly. I've always dreamed of an NFL sim that could compare to Football Simulator and Out of the Park Baseball but... This just still isn't it. ---------------------------------------------------- They DID improve one of the major complaints that 2021 had, which was roster ratings being randomized so some random 6th string RB that got cut in preseason isn't a superstar while Derrick Henry is some 45 overall bum. At least this time around it's actually semi-realistically playable without having to wait for mods to come out to fix the rosters and everything. But it still isn't enough. I don't know if they just can't have the same UI work or what, but the football (college and pro) games have easily the worst UI's compared to the college and pro basketball counterparts. It's a breeze to operate the basketball versions, yet this feels like I'm flipping through dozens of screens over and over again just to try and find basic info, so I can turn around and go 5 or 6 screens deep to do something else. It also doesn't help that 7 times in a row now that I've restarted my league and reinstalled and verified the integrity of the files, that whenever I try to sign a free agent it gives me an error and won't let me view anyone. It's literally unplayable if you encounter that error, and there's seemingly no way to fix it.
Absolutely not work the money. User interface is very slow and difficult to manage. Game mechanics are opaque and difficult to grasp. Nothing in the game remotely resembles the reality of managing an NFL team. I read some very positive reviews and am severely disappointed -- it's like I'm playing a completely different game from the reviewers.
I'll definitely give this a thumbs up. The real world mod really makes the difference for me in my evaluation. Pros: 1. The game incorporates concepts that I have never seen in other football games and I own all of them. 2. The Diamond Diagrams are really a novel idea that really helps visualize the game concepts. 3. You can play this game at as deep a level as you want to. I really enjoy deep level games. Minor Cons: 1. I'd like to see a better understanding of the clock mechanics during an actual game. 2. Some of the game play diagrams seem to for instance show a run in the opposite direction of the play description. I assume the blocking linemen ratings affect the play so it would be helpful if I knew in what direction the play was actually going. That might affect strategy for me. 3. A very minor thing: During the game, if I enable full screen for watching the play, when it reverts back to the regular screen, I don't have access to the play calling buttons. They are blank and appear frozen. All in all, a very commendable effort by the Developers and I'll be spending a lot of time playing this game. I'm sure that I'll purchase some of the other games by Wolverine Studios when they come out for 2022 editions. Thanks.....
1: This is clearly the best "management-type" game for American Football currently existing and i am enjoying it quite a bit as is. 2: There is still a massive amount of room for improvement. Lots of things that need to be improved or could be added to make it feel more realistic and also user-friendly. 3: This seems to be more geared towards Multiplayer-Leagues rather then Singleplayer vs. AI.
Another Big step forward for Wolverine Studios Football sim. If you enjoy Sports sims this is the franchise for you. Strategic depth, realistic sim numbers, improved financial system, and best of all a total overhaul of the coverage system. 100% worth the price.
Te pones en la piel de un general manager y de entrenador en los partidos. Bastante exigente a nivel de gestión de plantillas, fichajes, draft, elegir jugadas, .... pero muy divertido. Cosas a plantearse: 1. :-)
