I know almost nothing about AFL nor Australian Football as a whole, but I like sport management games and I am enjoying this one. Ofcourse it is not as complex as Football Manager or OOTP but the basic are there. The UI is fine although it needs some tweaking, the match presentation itself is very simple, think old Championship Manager(predecessor of FM) or East Side Hockey Manager, simple pitch background with little cute circles representing players running around. It has it oldschool charm. Player interactions are simple, just extending their contracts, trading for new players etc. No dealing with chemistry and so on as in modern FM games. Some customization is there, although not as indepth as in OOTP. As for sim engine itself I can't comment as I don't know much about Australian Football but to me it looks ok. Also id doesn't have licences so..you need to customize your league yourself to match the real world, although it has real world players and teams, you need to mostly put in the nicknames for teams and logos and rename the leagues to their real world names. Easy to do ingame. TLDR: If you are a fan of Australian Football it is a must buy, If you are a fan of sport management games and are ok with simple presentation then it is a must buy too. It has huge potential to become OOTP or FM for Australian Football.
This game is better than the last version of the game. The positives are that the game is more in depth and cleaner to operate, there are more options in coaching and the multiplayer mode is pretty cool. I have not played a full season yet so I can not comment on if the game simulates defenders, mids and forwards stats correctly. Things to address are you still cant delete saved games in the game, my saves from the last game are still in this game, you cant edit potential on players in edit mode which sort makes edit mode almost pointless if certain players will just go down in their overall because their potential is low. The game still cant go full screen even though it has an option to and in some parts on the screen like team selection I cant scroll down to view my full squad. overall so far I could see myself playing this on and off until more fixes happen to the game.
I played 2020 a bit but drifted off and lost interest after a while. 2023 is a better update in a lot of ways. Obviously being such a niche market and difficult sport to implement into any style of gaming, this is not going to hit every target. But for what I want out of an AFL management Sim, for me so far this is perfect. The dev is extremely helpful and responsive, they've obviously put a lot of heart and effort into this project. I've spent many nights in bed thinking up what I'd do for an AFL style sim and they've done it so well. Highly recommend. The only "competitor" for lack of better word to this is FX footy fanatic and I think I prefer 2023. I've had 100s of hours on the old footy fanatic updates and right now I'm enjoying this more.
beat the suns 3 years in a row in the granny as the pies and carlton won the wooden spoon so even better. buy game now
Better than AFL 23
Amazing game, sadly i don't know how to play much. I would love to see guides posted on how to play properly. Other then that this game has exceeded my expectations as i didn't like the old game as much.
For being developed by just one guy, this is a really fun game. I find myself getting invested in these little numbered dots moving around the field, and I feel like I have real control over the outcomes of the games. The Discord is also very active and the developer is sure to patch any bugs quickly and to assist with modding enquiries. Not that I've played many, but this is my favourite AFL game so far
Can't do the draft
A very basic FM but what it's got going for it I'd say it's pretty good
Much better than the last game, I love the addition of the search bar very good, there are a few more customisation gripes that I have, mainly very little ones (when editing a stadium name or details of a stadium everytime i click ENTER it resets to the top of the list, Cant move a Free Agent to a club even when in commisioner mode) A big Negative is that I can't do the draft in commisioner mode or as a coach and theres no simulation header for the draft or free agency so half the time i end up skiping past it. It is a very good game tho for the neiche audience it is trying to appeal to so I congratulate Statto for even trying to make an Australian Football Coach game.
