I've been playing the series for around a decade now and I've enjoyed seeing it's growth. It started as pretty simple online game and had grown into a nuanced game that can be played online or solo. Customization

You can play fictional, historical (mod), modern day (mod) or continue with players generated from their college game.
There are numerous league setups ranging from 8 to 72 teams with varying schedule lengths.
You can set Active roster size, Practice squad size and OT format. Sliders for pass/run yardage (I don't really mess with these but you can get an Arena style setup with this)
Ways to Play Career- You control one team and are limited to what you can edit for realism. Sandbox- You can control one team, all teams or no teams and edit every aspect. Online- Play online against human GM's I won't get into all the details of the game. The guides that were posted show the depth quite well. What I'll tell you is my favorite parts of the game: The customization-You can edit players, teams and coaches. You can easily add logos, helmets and Endzone images for the 2D engine.[/] The 2D engine- Simple circles but very fun to watch the game play out (or even call your own plays). The sim engine- I've simmed quite a few long careers (50+). I've used fictional and historical as far back as 1960. It's a lot of fun to see how players end up performing in different team situations. The engine itself is also very solid. Season and Career leaders are consistenly in line with what I would expect from today's NFL. I recently gave some feedback about fumble distribution and the developer utilized the feedback and added the adjustments to a recent patch. Online Play- I never thought I wanted to play online, but it was really the only option when I started playing. While I like to play solo games, I could not imagine a better experience than the online leagues. You have to really think about all aspects of your team and short/long term success. In my experience, when an issue is identified the developers are quick to resolve. You should check out the forums to see what that interaction is like. I highly recommend the game to anyone league for a Football Sim management game.
My profile probably says I've only spent a handful of hours playing this game, however I've been playing this game for years. I can't tell you how many hours I've spent doing researching on a draft class or trying to find who my next big free agent pick up will be while I'm supposed to be working. This game has tons of potential as I've seen it gradually evolve over the years and even produce a college football spinoff (which I highly recommend). Game Modes Online - This is where I think the game really shines as the online capabilities are simple and easy master. I've been in a couple of leagues for years. Some of the leagues you're involved all the way to the coaching level building playbooks and coming up with game plans etc.. and others you're pretty much just the GM building your roster and doing your coach hires. Tons and tons of fun and there are some great league communities already established. Sandbox - Fun mode that you can use to play locally with others or if you want to just be the "commissioner" of the league and make adjustments to each team or watch things play out you can do that too. The great thing about this mode is it gives you the flexibility to be as involved or uninvolved as you'd like. Want to sign free agents and draft for every single team? You can do it! Want to sim 10 years at a time and create history in your league before you actually start playing? You can do it! Career - This is essentially the single player mode and I believe the devs are making it a focal point moving forward. You basically pick a team to start and play the game as that one team the entire time. A lot like Sandbox mode except you're in control of one team as opposed to the entire league. There's not really any movment from team to team or anything like that but you're essentially the owner of the team and have the ability to create gameplans, playbooks, sign free agents, draft, etc. Things I enjoy about the game Online Capabilities - tons of leagues already established, WWPF has been around for some 25 game seasons and close to 8 years IRL. Flexibility to do as much or as little as you'd like. Modding is extremely easy and you can mod teams, players, penalties, etc all the way down to creating actual plays. Customization - You can change just about anything in this game including how the engine plays. 2D viewer - Certainly does the job when watching a game. Can't tell you how many times I've enjoyed watching a game winning drive or watching my QB throw an interception with the game on the line. Committed Developers - As stated above these guys have been around for some time and are consistently updating and adding features. Sim Engine - Can be adjusted to however you prefer to play run heavy or pass heavy with a yards modifier that can determine yards per play for run & pass. The Developers - Part of the reason why this game has my support is because the Devs are extremely involved with the community and have shown over the years they are committed to the evolution of the game. Things I believe need improvement Stats - You can export additional stats to CSV files and do additional analysis but I'd like to see more them added in-game. Financial system in place is sufficient but I personally would love to see it grow and get more robust. 2 minute play calling logic can do some questionable things at times and could use a bit of improvement. Formations, again are sufficient for whats in the game I'd just love to see more added. Overall its a great game and I've had a lot of fun with it over the years. The customization and flexibility of how you want to play the game are the two aspects of the game I enjoy the most. Most importantly theres an amazing community and dedicated devs out there available to help new players. If you're into the text sim genre and have been looking for a football sim I would highly recommend it.
This game is supposed to be a simulation of professional football. However, the game does not realistically simulate professional football. The game does have sliders and options for tweaking the performance and simulation results, but I've spent 8 hours of tweaking and I'm not even close, nor do I feel that further time would bear fruit. The AI simply doesn't manage it's salary cap in any reasonable fashion which gives the human player a ridiculous advantage. I was able to sign free agents with very high overall value (in one case a 100 rated SS) for the league minimum of $300k. (I should mention that I used the 'option' in the game of hard salary caps, which is what forced teams to vomit certain stars from their rosters - you know, like real football.) Now, I know that I can raise that minimum, but that's not relevant, as the AI teams should recognize they can sign that player for $300k also. In fact, they DO, because I saw one team had done the same thing with a 90 rated QB for 1 year/$300K. Having signed this 100 rated SS, I then was able to immediately trade him another team for a 3rd round pick. In any kind of remotely realistic simulation, there'd be some kind of bidding war for this player's services to the point that the team who needed him would have signed him themselves! Oh, and there's no scaling of salaries, i.e. paying them more in one season so you can frontload or backload contracts, etc. You pay them x amount a year for z amount of years, period. How much is guaranteed is a league-wide setting. The interface is not very intuitive. If you want to trade a good player for a draft pick, there is no "best offer" option. You have to painstakingly click through each roster... will team A give me a 1? No. Team B? No. Team C? No. Etc, etc. until no team gave you a 1. Then... will team A give me a 2? No. Will team B give me a 2? No. Will team C give me a 3? No. Etc, etc, etc, etc, etc. I could write a novel on how many little peeves fall under this heading. Out of the gate the game did not render realistic offensive results. At least 10-15 running backs rushed for over 1500 yards (yes, I had injuries turned on), and probably half the QBs topped 4500 yards and 30+ TDs, including some QBs who were rated in their mid 70s. There are sliders to lower this, at least that's what I think they do, but... c'mon man, I wanted to BUY a pro football sim, not program one. The game should default, out of the box, within the parameters of realistic, NFL pro football; the adjustable varibles for exist for people who wish to sim outside those parameters. I could go on. For $35 dollars on a game that I don't believe is early access, it should not fall to the customer (ME) to invest tens of hours just to get an game claiming to be a "pro football simulator" to simulate pro football.
Horrible game!!!!! retarded!!! parts do not work right and ones that do are hard to navigate! I wish Front Page Football was still around, games are just not what they used to be! do not waste your money!
The game is really fun. So far I haven't encountered any serious bugs or crashes. If you like numbers then this game is for you. It spits out so many stats each week and season, it's great. Plays fairly realstic to NFL football. It doesn't have everything, negotiating and signings could be a little more flushed out but they work. I have played some Front Office Football in the past and that game felt so souless. I couldn't get into it. This one is holding my attention so much better so far. The game also allows you to be as in depth or hands off as you want which is nice. You can sim entire seasons in minutes for numbers or to see how things play out. Or you can call every play, make your own playbooks, your own game plans, fill each depth chart for each position that fits into that plan. You can watch all the games, all the highlights, every week. Very nice how they do this. Sometimes I want to get into the nitty gritty and sometimes I want to just set my rosters and go. This is a nice option for all kinds of players. Game is fun and deserves a thumbs up.
This game is awesome and it work just fine. I was looking for a Football simulation near the standard of OOTP, this game is heading in the right direction. It is easy to play MP in a league and people are willing to help. So far the develloppers keep updating the game regularly and they are really paying attention to the players community. Look like this game will have a great futur.
No No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. To use the AVGN quote "Now what's the most important aspect about any game? Well, being able to f**king play it!" You can't with this. There are parts missing, there are bugs. Let me explain to you my experience in just half an hour with this game Game purchased Game Downloaded Start Game. Click New Game Game Crashes Repeat last two steps 14 times till game decides it actually wants to be a game Start to create new leage Get told game can't find database. Game Crashes again Restart in rage Repeat the Click New Game/Game Chrashes steps another 16 times Get refund If you are a sadomasochist who gets off on not being able to play games you spent 30 bucks on because the developers don't know basic coding, this is the perfect game for you. For the rest of you who AREN'T that one guy. Avoid this like the plague.
why is there no manual with this game?
Having played and loved the Football Manager series I was elated to find an NFL counterpart and was happy to pay the £25 in order to play it. However upon loading the game I instantly found it to be a dissappointment. The first problem I came across was how poorly designed the interface was. The appearance was very unprofessional with formatting errors everywhere. On the staff screen for instance the blank profile pictures were out of alignment with the text and covered the coaches details. Another example was the drop down boxes in the scouting screen covered the text for the projection filter and points remaining. The entire interface appeared either rushed or put together by someone who didn't take a lot of pride in their work. Another problem was how unintuative the game was to play. I had to create a practice save just in order to work out how the game actually worked and even after doing so still found the menus clunky and awkward which sapped all the fun out of the game. This, combined with the generally unprofessional appearance caused me to give up on the game after only an hour of trying, which is a shame as I did want to enjoy this game and feel that there is a great deal of potential here.
Horrible waste of time and money.
