Play the enhanced version of the original game released on the Nintendo 64 in 1997. Years have passed since you stopped Hell’s invasion of Earth. Quarantined for humanity’s safety, the UAC research facilities on Mars were abandoned and forgotten...until now.

I originally beat it on the Nintendo 64, and even today I think it's one of the most unique Doom games ever made. I get why some people don't like it. If you're expecting the nonstop speed and heavy metal energy of Doom 1 and 2, this isn't that at all. Doom 64 leans much harder into horror. Dark corridors, creepy lighting, oppressive ambient music, and a constant feeling that something is waiting around the next corner. In a weird way, it almost feels like the missing link between classic Doom and Doom 3. And honestly, I do love that. It has so much personality. It doesn't just recycle Doom 1 with new levels; it has its own identity. The atmosphere is fantastic, the redesigned monsters look great, and the whole game feels darker and more unsettling than its predecessors. The remaster is absolutely worth it too. It preserves everything that made the original special while making it much easier to enjoy today, you won't have to fight against the 64 controller. 8/10. Not the most "Doom" Doom there is, but that's exactly why it's so memorable and unique.
This is the true Doom 3 underrated and forgotten but not by me
criminally underrated! The slower pacing and darker atmosphere only help this game. I have more fun with this than I have with Doom 2 Hell on Earth!
Щедевр))))
I recently started getting into boomer shooters, and I've really been enjoying many of the modern additions to the genre over the last decade. I've also played the recent Doom games and had a great time with them, so I figured it was finally time to go back and experience the classics to see where it all began. There's no denying why Doom became such a legendary franchise. Doom 64 still has excellent gunplay, a satisfying arsenal, and combat that remains fast, frantic, and fun. When you're fighting demons, the game absolutely shines. Unfortunately, the action is constantly interrupted by puzzles that are often far too cryptic or obtuse. More than once, I found myself wandering around a level for 15 or 20 minutes, desperately searching for a tiny hidden switch or an obscure path I had somehow missed. As an aging gamer, I don't have the patience or free time for that anymore. Having to stop and look up a guide because of a nearly invisible lever isn't my idea of fun. It's frustrating, and to me, it's simply outdated game design. I'm sure these mechanics felt more acceptable when the game originally released, but in the year of our Lord 2026, they're really starting to show their age. The core gameplay still holds up remarkably well, but the level design often gets in the way of enjoying it. It's a shame because I genuinely wanted to love Doom 64. The combat kept pulling me in, but the constant backtracking and abstract switch hunts eventually wore me down. In the end, I put the game down with no real desire to finish it.
